NEW! Critic Robert Atkins has written that “narrative” or story art — represents events taking place over time. These events may, however, be compressed into a single image that implies something that has already happened or is about to take place. Painting, of course, has told stories since at least the time of the ancient Egyptians. By the 1960’s, the modernist insistence on abstraction and the taboo against narrative had made telling tales irresistible to many artists. Pop art, New Realist painting and sculpture, and Nouveau Realism all provide figurative imagery into which narratives could be read — whether or not they were intended by the artist. Learn effective ways to capture the story in your paintings through lecture, demonstration and hands-on exercises. This class is designed for advanced painters working in oil or acrylic. At the time of your registration, you will be given a supplies list. Tuesdays, March 5-March 26, 6:30-8:30pm (4 sessions) $60-Residents/$70-Non-Residents
