Welcome to GuyExpo 2012
The theme “Strengthening the traditional, Embracing the New”; is premised on issues highlighted by President Donald Ramotar in his first Independence anniversary address in which he highlighted certain aspects of Guyana’s existing economy and how it could be strengthened while Guyanese prepare themselves to embrace the attendant opportunities and face challenges within the new economic framework. The 2012 GuyExpo has boldly embraced a wider range of business sectors; many traditional and others specifically targeted that are consistent with the areas of economic activity that are emerging within the developmental trajectory of our nation. Consequently, much attention has been given to providing an unprecedented indoor and outdoor display with focus on our achievements as well has our aspirations. GuyExpo offers an opportunity to build synergies among the various diverse sectors of Guyana’s economy that invigorates as well as compels us- policy maker, exhibitor and patron- to strengthen the traditional, seize the moment and embrace what the future offers us as Guyanese. New features of GuyExpo this year are: a

“future (2025) city” display; fashion village; entrepreneurial youth presentation; tourism village; and an exhibition of music and creative accomplishments of the performing arts. In addition, this year’s GuyExpo will demonstrate how enterprising people could benefit from a collaborative process with friendly supportive businesses and nations within Caricom, MERCOSUR and further afield. This is the underpinning which GuyExpo 2012 planners have adopted to unveil the most pragmatic exposition of our country’s goods and services alongside those of other participating territories, in a way that is tailored to attract and obtain the commitment of the scores of visiting investors and buyers. GUYEXPO Guyana’s largest Trade and Investment Exposition – GuyExpo began in 1995. This event which showcases locally produced goods and services, became an annual event in 2004. In that year, the organisers noting the growth and interdependence of international trade, opened the exhibition to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and other regional exhibitors. This premier exposition and trade fair offers business associates the opportunity to meet, network and negotiate deals with international companies and entrepreneurs, as well as showcase their skills, talents and creative works. This event provides a platform for both local and foreign businesses: importers, exporters, retailers, wholesalers. It fuses together a wide cross section of producers of handicraft, furniture, garments, jewelry, horticulture, pharmaceuticals, tourism, information technology and most of our culture. This ideal setting provides the opportunity for businesses to increase their competitiveness and efficiency and foster growth. GuyExpo is undertaken as a partnership among the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, GO-INVEST and the Private Sector; while exhibitors, franchise holders, game operators and entertainers play a major role in the overall success of the event. The GuyExpo Planning Committee and Secretariat under the stewardship of the Honourable Minister Irfaan Ali, supported by Co-chairman Mr. Derrick Cummings, have established a plan of action aimed at making GuyExpo 2012 one of the best ever.
