The pandemic have created new trends in the purchase of housing in large cities, where the center has begun to lose interest in favor of more peripheral areas. Many families have decided to start the search for their new home, putting the terrace or, in general, outdoor spaces as their main requirement. The new need to work from home means that new homes have spaces adapted to reconcile family and work life. This project proposes a mixed typology between what is a highrise collective residential building and an attached one. Thanks to this mix, the 3 houses have a generous outdoor space in the form of a garden or terrace and roof terrace. In addition, the homes may be equipped with an individual pool. The parking structure is articulated around a courtyard, partially covered by a horizontal glass plane, supported by 18 trusses that span the courtyard below. The top chords of the trusses are steel tubes; the bottom chords are steel cables; and the vertical, compressive chords are cylinders of laminated structural glass. Ther 198 glass cylinders extend below the cables varying in length from five to fourteen feet, appearing as a field of transparent glass tubes suspended over the court.

This project is for an outdoor garden that serves the adjacent building: a tower of equal footprint which accommodates a restaurant, also designed by EOMA. The garden consists of mounded earth, concrete tables and stairs, and planted flora to serve as a gathering space for casual dining and cocktails. A mat slab is used as a shallow foundation. A topping slab directs the water from each garden area to a drain and then to the public storm sewer. The mounds were achieved by installing a series of steel plates carefully designed to interlock. An irrigation system runs throughout the plates providing water to all the pockets. The tables and benches are made of reinforced cast in place concrete with a pre-cast “L” shape top which spans over two bases. This piece has embedded a heating system comprised of heating cables and programmable t-stats. Recessed light fixtures are embedded as well in the concrete to provide an ambient light at night. watch video construction / password: worksample Current status: Built Responsabilities: - Drawing documentation for permitting - Construction details: bench seat connection, ligthing, heating system. - Fabrication templates/ layouts - Vendors/ Fabricators coordination - Construction administration Note: This project has been designed by EOMA, and it is a team effort. The Ditch
Eric Owen Moss Architects, 2016
This project consists of a sculptural piece conceived as a way to mark the entrance of a restaurant, sheltered in the adjacent building. The hardscape called “the ditch” was created by a series of precast concrete tiles lined side by side, formed to a curve, and filled with water. The challenge resided on arranging the tiles into a surface that bended in two directions, avoiding under cuts and providing enough variation in the rocks while keeping the project within budget. Four different types of tiles were used for this purpose. The alignment and inclination of the tiles was of maximun importance. Steel plates with a carefully designed notching system was used for this purpose. A cistern located under the piece provides water to the pool at night and collects storm water for reuse. watch video construction / password: worksample Current status: Built Responsabilities: - Drawing documentation for permitting - Construction details: steel connection and drainage - Tile studies: providing alternatives to keep project within budget - Fabrication.
