Chicago Housing is strongly associated with U.S HISTORY. Beyond just seasonal and topographical reasons, it has been affected by its social circumstances. In 1990, Chicago established the high-rising public housing resulted from the Great Migration. Most of them were built in South side of Chicago for African-Americans and some were built in North side of Native-Americans who had to move from south side because of sudden-increased African-Americans. On south side of Chicago, public housing had lots of problematic issues of its living quality: no family space, no privacy, and no community space. Most of places were used to drug trades and crimes. The neighborhoods were called as [the dead zones].

NON STOP CITY?

As the population in Mexico city, the capital of Mexico, increase, so does the demand for various spaces. And city has been changing. For me, it became A Non-Stop City. Then, what is Non-Stop City? I estimated it as a volume changing endlessly based on our purposes and aims, like An Active City. If you have your own city, what activities you want to do in? Do you want to sit and take a cup of coffee? You want to just sleep? Or, do you want to make it as your official place? I could guess any flexible possibilities on this given slope. How the shape could be formed for achieving making our profits was a question.

45degree

SITE ANALYSIS Given site is literally a mountain, having 45 degrees with the disadvantage by facing northside. Santa fe, Mexico City, Mexico. is having unique territory with many steep slopes. Its architecture had been also built on this particular circumstance. I had to explore the relationship between this distinct topography and architecture.

Human Memories

The forest of records

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT YOUR ARCHIVE?

03 Hybrid Memory Machine 2015 Fall 3rd year Studio Professors Andy Tinucci

Everyone has made their own memorial records since they were born. Records might be clear, ambiguous, ruffle, or sometimes mixed with others’ records. When these moments happened, their archives were generated. This seemed ‘a forest of records’ to me in which lots of living features stay together. Eventually, we are making ‘the space’ assembling various archives, and those archives are steadily changing and growing up as making new records and events. In each archive, all record would be the past, present, and future: 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional. For recording, we may do not only diary or notebook, but also drawings, music, dancing, and community activities. Hence, my hybrid will be ‘the space’ for whoever want to pile up their archives, as well as look back their old archives spatially. I named my hybrid as “Memory Machine”

04 The Living Bridge Metropolitan Second city 2050 in San Jose 3 2017 Spring 5th year

OVERALL STUDIO SUBJECT During 2017 fall semester, studio team designed a bridge with 2 mile length in San Jose, California. In this studio, based on the city condition, we imagined what would be built up inside of the bridge in 2015.

Studio Professors Susan Conger_Austin Paul Endres

[2017 FALL]

BRIDGE STRING DETAIL DESIGN Based on structure calculation, we decided the ‘hexagon shape’ for each string design.

[2017 SPRING]

INSPIRATION _ FOGGY CALIFORNIA The bridge is in the middle of the foggy area of San Jose We could get enough vapor from everywhere, and it became our main inspiration of the design in the future. COCCUPIED LAND

TOPOGRAPHY

Past 1990-2005 LIGHTNESS IS WEIGHTLESS DENSITY Since San Jose is surrounded by dynamic topography, our design is to bring those topography into our bridge as a future city in 2050.

Current

Future 2015-2050

CALIFORNIA INDUSTRY INNOVATION GROWTH Ranking 4th Metropolitan City Ranking 11th Hi-tech industry City Ranking 2nd among 50states having hi-revenue growth San Jose has been growing up steadily in industry development. At the same time, its population has grown up. The area is limited, and increased industrial and human density needed their additional spaces. Site in which bridge was set is in the center of these current changes.

Using lightness as a lens through which we experience space, we were inspired by the fog around our site. fog is a threshold which defines space, and it can also become an inpiration for the practice of modern living. Like droplets of water suspended in air with ever-changing layers of mist, it cultivates a way of life, suspended in the sky, where neighbors commune in gathering spaces while the fog condenses into water usable by those in its midst. Clouds and mist are ephemeral by nature, and our vision recreates ethereal living within them. Combining the sensations of flying over water while floating through fog, we want to provoke introspective spaces within unique living experiences.

FORM + MODULE We thought that there are two main force in San Jose: Growing innovation and housing demands by bombing population. These two forces push our new land, the bridge occupided land on each side, and it generated the subduction, new topography. Then, we splintered the new topogrphy with the new module. The idea was brought from the detail of bridge’s string. All modules are connected by water mesh. These meshes are made by bamboo.

With its meaning as the big farm, Jeongrim-dong had lots of lands. While other cities had been under construction and developed, jeongrim-dong had been struggle in its urban development. In 2000, jeongrim got a chance to be larger and changed since B.University and L.University were built and two main big car roads were established surrounding the city, however, it was still having the stagnant population: left Old people, Students, and family having kids. Given site was abandoned in 2000s, and there are really few people living in now. [cluster division by stairs, vegetations, and gardents]

CONCEPT SEQUENCE 5400

Canada is being crowded in young people since 1910s as economic development. It started to renovate its old houses to match to this changing population. In this competition, I had to think about how to renovate this house FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AS WELL AS CONSIDERING SUSTAINABILITY. They do not need too big spaces, and also can find the sublet. I divided the whole area into 2, and insert a green bar for eco sustainability.

IDEAHAUS A safety cloud for children’s dreaming, experiences, and ideas in Chicago 2015 Spring 3rd year professor Amanda Williams

Chicago hyde park neighborhood has been named as dangerous and high-crime zone. Although expo was exhibited and University of Chicago was established, this neighbohood is still unpreferred area for living in. Two main park: washington park and hyde park, are connected by midway plaisance, and this middle bridge is used to the place for public events such as skater link in winter and swimming pool in summer, as well as educational exhibitions. . Therefore, my IDEAHAUS was focused on how to exaggerate this big possibility to this neighborhood in ‘the safe space’ with meeting, making, and performing.
