Inner Strength

I might not look like much, but listen here, I can move a picnic bench, dresser, or couch when I need to. My body is strong. My spirit is stronger. I’m writing to tell you that strength doesn’t look like a 6 pack of abs, bulging thigh muscles, or a rippling back. Strength comes from within.
The outer coverings of your body — skin, hair, fat — are no match when it comes to your inner resolve. Forget about perfect. Forget about slapping on an Instagram filter to smooth out wrinkles, dimples, rolls. Although, I have! Instead, I want to remember the ways my body has served me well over my life. How it has grown bigger, stronger, more durable with every challenge like giving birth to two children. How it has shouldered the weight of daily stress, working, exercise. How it’s met those challenges and became better.
Whether you think of mindset as a set of core beliefs and truths or a process for manifesting your deepest desires and dreams for your life, your mindset is the key that unlocks every possibility for your life, including its growth. So, if you’re finding yourself in a place of stagnation or antsy-ness to pick up the pace in your life, know that it’s likely a matter of mindset. It’s all in your head.
For a long time, I’ve seen my clients judge themselves over and again for lack of success in their life. Maybe this sounds familiar. Is it because you’re comparing yourself to a wildly successful person who’s absolutely killing it in their business, marriage, or parenthood? Or maybe you’re comparing yourself to an unattainable standard that you believe you should achieve, but in reality, no human could ever reach it. You believe you can do it ALL: running a fantastic
household, serving a home-cooked meal, putting your kids to bed, staying attractive for your significant other (or maybe just for you).
That’s exhausting! Notice the one thing all that judgment has in common? You’re comparing yourself to someone else. You. You are doing that. “Don’t throw your life away in comparisons. You’re the only you that will ever be.”

In other words, you bring special gifts to the table. That’s what makes you “you”. And when you compare to other humans on this journey called life — instead of “connecting” — it strips away your power. Suddenly, you’re operating at less than 100%, which is a hateful place to be, let me tell ya. By comparing yourself to others, you’re setting yourself up to fail, to ignore that priceless combination that only “you” possess. And by not choosing to be you, you’re throwing away your talents when someone else might benefit from your insights, thoughts, action.
I don’t want you to exist in that place, even if it’s momentarily. I want you to push through and recognize your talents. That means connecting with others, which is what we’re wired to do. Why compare when you can connect? This month, I want to celebrate the curves, the wrinkles, the rolls, the dimples. Relish in your inner strength. Connect with those around you and share your gifts with the world.
