MEDICAL CANNABIS CONNECTION A pioneer in medical marijuana, Dr. Anthony Anzalone (NJ) leads the discussion of his show, “Medical Cannabis Connection”. This is a show for public discussion about how medical cannabis has changed so many lives. Dr. Anzalone will take callers during every podcast. Each hour will be categorically driven. For example, shows like “Seizures and medical cannabis” for instance. Dr. Anzalone has had thousands of patients, many of whom came from pain management and taking highly addictive opiates. Dr. Anzalone’s former patients stopped taking opiates at a 45% rate. Quitting opiates altogether. These are your neighbors and friends who now have an alternative option in states that qualify. Let’s talk medical marijuana. Let’s hear from patients. Let’s talk about the facts. It’s the “Medical Cannabis Connection!”

The Power of Positive Thinking Shift Your Energy with Bath Stones If your feeling funky by the end of a long day and not sure why, it could have a lot to do with who you interact with, how often you hold your phone, or the environment in which you’re surrounded in. As humans we are a fluid open, giving and receiving energy source. We send and receive energy information to and from each other all day long. Whether your conscious of it or not you are absorbing others emotions, thoughts, and feelings. You are also sending the same to whomever is in contact with you. But if the energy information we are sending and receiving isn’t so positive that can weigh on us like heavy clothing. Energy so thick you could cut it with a knife. It can impact our mood, emotions, and thought process so it’s important to ensure your cleansing and raising your vibration as often as you can.

Allison Feehan N.D., D.Psc, CRMT Owner of the Coastal Cottage 64 Bridge Avenue Bay Head, NJ 08742

There are a few solutions to raising your energy and shifting that funk into a positive vibe. The first recommendation is soaking with bath stones. You must be mindful that not all crystals and stones go well in water. Some can disintegrate and be splintery ultimately harming you. Utilize a small mesh bag such as an organza bag to hold the crystals. You want the crystals energy to filter through yet not allow for small pieces to flake off. I always use at least 4-5 stones in a bag. Start with a hardy crystal yet filled with such high vibration, Rose Quartz. Since you are already nurturing yourself in the bath you can increase the effects with adding this amazingly high vibratory crystal. Rose quartz is the crystal of self-love and unconditional love. What better way to shift your energy and raise your vibration than with some self-love. This stone helps aid in restoring balance and staving off negative energy. Another great stone to soak with is Amethyst. This purplish looking crystal is a healing stone, a natural tranquilizer. It helps to transmute negative energies into positive loving frequencies. Keep in mind water is an amazing conductor for your personal energy so be sure to hold this bag of stones while you’re soaking and slip into a meditation. This stone helps with intuition and psychic abilities. The third crystal I recommend is Hematite. This crystal is extremely grounding and can make you feel more centered and anchored in your being as it absorbs negative emotions. Adding bath salts with hematite can increase the conductivity of the energy. If you’re not the bath or soaking type that’s ok. Combat the funky energies with bath salts and yes, a bag of crystals in the shower. Place the bag of crystals hanging over the shower head so that the water can flow freely through it. Utilize a salt scrub to sluff off all the negative energy. This will leave you feeling as refreshed as a dip in the ocean. There are many reasons why the ocean makes us feel so connected, calm, and rejuvenated. Please don’t just take my word for it. Give this technique a try. Happiness is soaking in a rose-quartz bath so keep calm and pamper on.

Students of 08742 Point Pleasant High School Students Perform in Disney World by Madelyn Killi

Walt Disney World is one of the most popular places for vacation. Whether it be for the whole family or a just few friends, there seems to always be something for everyone to do here. This past April, Band and Color Guard students of Point Pleasant Borough High School traveled to Orlando, Florida to perform in Walt Disney World. Though there was plenty of time to have fun with friends in the parks, students spent a lot of time going to workshops and playing music on various occasions throughout the duration of the trip. With the help of Disney Cast Members, from the performing arts department, students were able to expand their musical & artistic skills and put on numerous impressive performances. After spending the first morning of the trip in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, all students in the PPBHS band went to Disney’s Coronado Springs for the “You’re Instrumental” Workshop directed by Disney musician Julian Bond. Mr. Bond worked with students on various pieces of music and taught them how performer confidence is evident through how a piece of music is performed. By the end of the workshop, students played and recorded the music to the final scene of The Little Mermaid and overlaid it with the original animation of the movie. Mr. Bond taught the students what it’s like to be a professional musician for a company like Disney and about how confidence while performing enhances the quality of the music, even if mistakes are made. That same day, after an evening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, students of PPBHS Color Guard went to Disney’s “Auxiliration” Workshop, led by Disney Cast Member, Lindsey Smith, who has spent the past 11 years performing in the Beauty and the Beast show. The Color Guard students were taught two different dance routines and how to use their color guard props in these routines from a professional Disney dancer.

Friday morning, the second day of the trip, students of the PPBHS Jazz Band performed on stage at Disney Springs. Conducted by PPBHS band director Scott Visco, the Jazz Band performed three songs, including Carnival Del Sol, Blues For Clyde, and Birdland. This showcased solos from various instruments, including drum set, piano, trombone, trumpet, bass, and saxophone. Friday evening, after the day spent between Disney Springs and Disney’s Magic Kingdom, the PPBHS Band and Color Guard performed & marched down Main Street, USA. The students went behind the scenes and learned what it takes to be a professional performer for a Walt Disney World. PPBHS students got in formation and marched through Frontierland, Liberty Square, and in front of Cinderella’s Castle, passing the Partners statue, and down Main Street, USA. The Marching Band performed three songs, including Africa (Toto), Fantasmic, and Mickey (Toni Basil), while the Color Guard performed elaborate routines to accompany. PPBHS students had an incredibly memorable experience and made Point Pleasant proud as they skillfully entertained guests in the most popular theme park in the world. This talented group of PPBHS students should be proud of their many accomplishments; their successes would not be possible without Point Pleasant High School Band Director, Scott Visco, Color Guard Coach Andrew Ferrie and Point Pleasant Band Director, Megan Meier. Many thanks also to the trip chaperones, parents, Band Boosters, Disney Cast Members, school administrators and all involved in making this once-in-a-lifetime experience as musical and magical as possible for the students of PPBHS.

Rover Rescue Welcoming a New Dog to Your Home by Lauren Kehoe

Lauren Kehoe is an avid animal lover and dog owner.

Dogs benefit from sticking to a certain routine and schedule, and a shake up in the home can have a big affect on them. When someone must pass along ownership of a dog to a new person, there is a definite adjustment period. We can’t read dogs’ minds, but we can observe when and how they are uncomfortable. Adaptability varies and is contingent on each dog and their individual personality, but there are ways to make the transition process smoother. A new home can be less stressful than transitioning to a loud, busy, animal shelter, but it is still an entirely foreign environment. All the people, scents, and things they were used to each day have been removed and replaced with different things. Even if change is good, it can be difficult. The norm is comfortable, even in a world of disfunction. The best thing to do to welcome a dog to a new home is to create as many positive experiences as possible. Find out what motivates a dog and go with that. Maybe a dog adores walks, treats (in moderation), training, attention from people, water, other dogs, etc. The more happy, non-stressful things that can be introduced, the better. Setting up a new, reliable routine is also helpful. This means waking up, eating, walking, going to sleep, at the same time or similar time everyday will improve stability and set everyone up for success. Taking time off to be around the newest furry family member also may strengthen the bond, though if a dog is nervous and wants its own space, that’s okay too. Every dog adjusts and warms up at their own pace. Attempting to force a dog to do things quicker than they are comfortable may lead them to be withdrawn, defensive and have a harder time settling in. Unless there is a pressing medical issue, it is better to hold off on the vet for a few weeks until after a dog is more comfortable in the household. The same goes for grooming. Big parties or lots of people coming and going can also be overwhelming. If there are children involved, it is important that they (and their friends) also allow the dog room to breathe if needed. Even positive things, like outings to new places, can be a lot for a new dog. The calmer a newer environment is, the lighter the shock value. Dogs cannot speak, but they are constantly alluding to how they feel via body language. If we pay attention and observe a dogs’ behavior, we can adjust our actions to make them as comfortable as possible. While switching homes isn’t easy, it is sometimes necessary. Setting a schedule, introducing positive things that make a dog happy, and holding off on potentially overwhelming situations will help make the transition less stressful. Dogs are adaptable and will overcome challenges. With a new human’s help, easing into a different life is possible. Volume 5, Issue 55

Shore Decor Off the Wall

By Ashleigh Young Santamaria

As I’ve browsed through dozens of interior design blogs and websites of late, I’ve been noticing an interesting trend happening in wood paneling design.

Ashleigh Young Santamaria

We’re all more than familiar with the shiplap trend that’s been around forever in coastal homes, having reached a fever pitch in pop culture with Chip and Joanna Gaines’ HGTV juggernaut Fixer Upper. Then we saw singular wood accent walls spring up in homes and offices alike, part of the nature-inspired biophilic design trend that emerged to help counterbalance our increasingly tech-driven world. Now in interior design, as with fashion and beauty, self-expression and “no rules” are the norm and we’re seeing wood paneling evolve as a design element in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. Ceiling beams, both real and faux, are not just for ceilings anymore, creeping down sidewalls as if alive or extending down the walls and seams to highlight the architecture in the room, giving the walls the appearance of having some sort of exoskeleton. We are also seeing an almost Frank Lloyd Wright approach where natural beams are being integrated into room design, almost as if the room itself was designed around a tree or existing natural lumber formation. These touches add a rustic, familiar, calming note to room design, cueing a time before cellphones, computers and thousands of TV channels were the norm. On the flip side, wood paneling is being used in lieu of wallpaper or paint to add interest and dimension to walls in a room. We’ve been used to seeing paneled walls and wainscoting in dining rooms and living room walls for ages. Wainscoting has actually been used for centuries as a wall accent, insulation and as a way to prevent (and cover up) damage to walls. But now, instead of covering and protecting the lower three to four feet of a wall, it’s taking over the whole wall and sometimes even the ceiling, in interesting maze-like configurations reminiscent of HBO’s Westworld or those circular, winding outdoor meditation paths. Wood paneling is also evolving beyond flat planks and into a plethora of rich and interesting shapes and textures if you’re looking for one-of-a-kind wall covering options. Wood is one of those amazing materials that give us unlimited design choices, which is why it will never go out of style. And why we’re continuing to see wood paneling evolve in interior design, like the gorgeous modular 3D wall cladding creations coming from brands like Archiproducts and Oshkosh Designs. Back to Earth Sound Bathing by Jessica Shields

Modern life can sometimes become overwhelming with technology overloads and a sense of global fragility. The search to quiet the mind is more important than ever. Many are reaching back down to our roots a place of simplicity. The search to achieve relaxation has many of us exploring alternative healing practices, some that have been around a very long time.

Natalie Berko Certified Crystal Healer

One of these ancient practices that’s experiencing a surge in popularity is the sound bath. A therapeutic remedy that uses sound for healing that can be traced back to ancient Egyptians, Australia’s Aborigines and Greek philosophers. From chanting and gongs to drumming sounds, sound bath sessions can be extremely beneficial in curing various ailments of the mind and body. If you are looking to try a sound bath here is a primer to help you get the most out of healing through sound. Sound baths are not a form of entertainment they are a form of therapy. Sound bath practitioner’s work to utilize various instruments as tools to shift consciousness. Structural elements of music like rhythm and arrangement are stripped away. The ultimate goal is to slow down your brainwaves, shifting from a more active state (beta) to a more relaxed dreamlike state (alpha). The experience is not a concert in a traditional way that requires your observation and attention. It’s a facilitation into a deeper state and an opportunity to unplug and gain perspective with what’s going on from within. If you enter the sound bath with this knowledge it will help you settle into a relaxed state much sooner. Know that everyone reacts differently to the vibrations and sound. Each of our minds, bodies, and spirits hold energetic imprints of all our experiences. Sound vibrations tend to shake things up, one moment a sound can induce a sense of bliss while a feeling of unease with a different tone. If feelings of unease do arise it is happening so that they may be released. Bring your focus to your breath and tune into your deep inhales and exhales allowing any negative energy to be released.

Key Benefits of a Sound Bath: • Alleviates feelings of anxiety and stress • Improves stress management • Promotes good sleep and regulates sleeping patterns

You don’t need to know how to meditate before you go to a sound bath. Sound is immediate, having a way of directly impacting our whole body. You don’t need to be a well-practiced yogi or self-care practitioner in order to have a profound and positive experience with sound. A sound bath can even serve as a gateway to such practices as it will introduce you what it feels like to calm the mind.

• Enhances focus and concentration

Visiting sound baths is a great way to quiet the mind, regularly introducing such an experience can have positive effects on our well-being. Each experience with sound healing will differ based on your feelings and surroundings. Each new experience will teach you more about yourself and contribute to your personal growth.

• Uplifts your mood and boosts feelings

Fashion Frenzy Let’s Be Like Elephants By Denise Brady Acanfora, Certified Personal Stylist and Owner, The Urban Exchange

I recently attended the RISE conference in Minneapolis. It was a fabulous event put on by Rachel Hollis. It’s a 2 day personal growth event with an entire day devoted to health and wellness. Women came from all over the country to attend this event. Women came from OTHER countries for this event! It really was ALL OF THE THINGS. We laughed, we cried, we danced and we became better versions of ourselves. Something happens when you are immersed at an event like this. Something shifts. What I found most interesting was that what moved me didn’t necessarily move the gal next to me. Same fabulous speaker, some awesome message but it landed differently on each of us. Proving the point – you don’t see things as they are – you see things as you are. What moved me most was the story that Jen Hatmaker told. She’s an author, speaker, blogger and podcaster. Born in Kansas and living in Texas- her accent and slang lend themselves to next level story telling. I am sharing the story in her words and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. “It’s about female elephants. You know, as all good stories begin. See, in the wild, when a mama elephant is giving birth, all the other female elephants in the herd back around her in formation. They close ranks so that the delivering mama cannot even be seen in the middle. They stomp and kick up dirt and soil to throw attackers off the scent and basically act like a pack of badasses. They surround the mama and incoming baby in protection, sending a clear signal to predators that if they want to attack their friend while she is vulnerable, they’ll have to get through 40 tons of female aggression first.

When the baby elephant is delivered, the sister elephants do two things: they kick sand or dirt over the newborn to protect its fragile skin from the sun, and then they start trumpeting, a female celebration of new life, of sisterhood, of something beautiful being born in a harsh, wild world despite enemies and attackers and predators and odds.

Denise Brady Acanfora Certified Personal Stylist and Owner, The Urban Exchange

Scientists tell us this: They normally take this formation in only two cases – under attack by predators like lions, or during the birth of a new elephant. This is what we do, girls. When our sisters are vulnerable, when they are giving birth to new life, new ideas, new ministries, new spaces, when they are under attack, when they need their people to surround them so they can create, deliver, heal, recover…we get in formation. We close ranks and literally have each others’ backs. You want to mess with our sis? Come through us first. Good luck. And when delivery comes, when new life makes its entrance, when healing finally begins, when the night has passed and our sister is ready to rise back up, we sound our trumpets because we saw it through together. We celebrate! We cheer! We raise our glasses and give thanks.” Remember, there is no community like a community of women. So, if you need me to kick up some dirt and sand – I am here for it! And then I will celebrate you !

Healthy Morsels, II Making a Self-led Decision by Lynn O’Hara

you want to eat based on, among Lynn O’Hara, MS, RD, LPC other things, your desire, how a food Licensed Psychotherapist Registered Dietitian makes you feel after eating it and how (732) 899-9312 hungry you are. Another term for this www.lynnoharalpc.com type of eating is mindful eating. When we eat from this place there is no internal criticism, no judgment and no fear. Even better, weight seems to settle out into a place that works for you. When the goal becomes to eat from a self-led place weight loss will occur if it needs to. Ironically, when we focus on eating from self rather than from a restrictive mindset, weight loss often occurs. Remember, weight gain is a symptom of something else going on. It’s the last thing to change and it’s the most hated. Since irony rules the universe and what we resists persists, accepting that we have

I’ve been experiencing an uptick of calls for appointments for weight loss. People, mostly women, are unhappy that they just can’t seem to get themselves on the “right” track. What does “right” track mean? For all people who call and use this type of language it means restricting. Have you ever had the time when you feel like you’ve got all the will power in the world at your disposal? Making the “right” choices feels easy? You don’t experience the cravings for “junk” food and the weight seems to drop off? If you have experienced being in this space then I know you’ve also experienced the opposite space- the space where you can’t seem to control one thing that you put in your mouth. Where willpower over food feels in very short supply and cookies and candies and whatever other food that is deemed “bad” calls your name and you cannot stop yourself from having “just one” which inevitably leads to half the package. Sound familiar? Most people love the “restrictor” part being in charge and hate when the “permittor” part is running the show. The problem is these two will always try to balance the other out. In people who haven’t dieted harshly this balance works pretty well. For people who diet frequently, if not always, the inner world starts to get pretty savvy in its response. At any mention or thought of dieting the permittor parts rebel. I once had a client who tried to just eat “healthy”. Nope! That was code word for restricting and her permittor parts wanted none of that punishment. So how do you know if you are stuck in this pattern and more importantly how do you get out of it? Well, if you experience these swings from restricting to eating without a feeling of control or choice you’re in a place of parts led eating. If you feel you always need to restrict you’re in parts led eating. If you feel you just can’t lose weight and it’s really upsetting chances are you’re in parts led eating.

parts of us that want to dictate how we eat is the first step toward changing them. As long as we restrict we will also have the inevitable permittor eating. Neither helps us achieve a healthy weight. Until next time, eat healthy, be happy!

Let’s look at this from a different perspective. What if parts of you didn’t make decisions on what to eat? What if your self-energy made those decisions? Have you ever made a decision about something that felt so right there was no indecision, no doubt? That’s a self-led decision. Confidence and compassion are hallmarks of self-energy. Can you imagine eating from that place? Eating foods that you have no doubts are ok to put in your mouth? No worries about how this food is going to affect your waistline? This doesn’t mean that you are eating the “right” foods all the time. That’s restricting. Self-led eating means you choose what
