Model picture / Existing over all

Site / Project scheme This is rural project, part of a temple reconstruction. The requirements are : i. keeping the existing plant at the midden, ii. including 1 tea room, 1 storage, iii. adding a second floor, and iv. using wood structure. First of all, we localed the volume by the site condition and extended the meditation hall at the upper floor. Therefore, the issue of this project is design the relationship between the architecture and the surrounding under the Buddhism. This structure have to be minimize, hidden in the forest. And we want to control the maintenance period is 20 years. So, the roof top is a slope and joint system should as less as possible.

Massing The lower part structure have to be showed its weight and hidden in the nature at the same time. We decided to make it have less translucence. And, at last, we use the vertical wood sticks to control the weight and translucence.

The Upper Structure We decided to use a big sloped roof to replace the old design. Because it increase the water proofing and more center gravity inside the meditation hall. So, the massing divided into three part, the heavy lower part; the in-between part - handrail system; and the roof part. Perspective / Front Elevation

The Primary Joint Structure There are a lot of chooses of the roof structure design. Under the economic and construction consideration, we picked up this design scheme. As showed at the 2., there are 4 identical metal plant. This is a isosceles triangulation system in section and a girl system in horizontal plan. The material, wooden bamboo is a 2hr fire-proofed structural material. 3. / Wooden bamboo

Brief Issue / Situation of Users This is a community center for 300,000 people in a new city, which built for the factory company Foxconn. As the Outline zoning plan shown, there are 8 circles and 300,000 people within this city. There were over 400 cultural buildings are taken down when this city were started developed. At the end, for a requirement of units, lots of typical residential were built. Although there are very good outlooking, the environment inside is still under the line. On the other hand, the people are going to this city are came from the rural farm.

Our design purpose is reduce the experience different between the original life and new one. There is 25,000 sq.m. GFA required for the follow functions: Commercial area, Wet and dry market, Cultural center, office, Community health center, Elderly day-care center, Community service center, Committee office, Retail office, Police station and Sports area. Beside it, there is no another commercial area in the residential area but some small shop under the towers. This complex is the only one.

Issue 1. There is oering 40,000 people’s community service within this 15,000 sq.m., over 30,000 sq.m. of G.F.A. is required form the government.v 2. And we are focusing on the non-economic activities. 3. So, we hide the society functions at the bottom part and group the cultural and leisure part on the towers. A. It is facing a massive and stager urban architecture, which is designed by Zaha Hadid. Therefore, a relatively simple and silent structure is needed for the people who living in a new, modern and empty city.

B. Because it is a low budget project but a lot of requirement, especial the responding of urban image. We design a variation facade by the sunlight. The deepness between the exterior wall, gray brick wall and glass, and the brick feature is casting a shadow that changing our elevation.

Because this is a town development project, the budget of each community center is very limited. Therefore, we wanted to have a passive variation feature. It is planed by the function. But, at the end, a patten elevation and a kind of between movement and stable facade is the most suitable way of this government building. Facade Studies

C. Because we cannot solve the massive look of volume for the landscape, we try to use some of the programs to form a landscape. This upper urban space can directly change the perspective of human relatively far the city and the noise. It can be make sure the enough space of the sports and green space.

Taking into account the requirements of commercial business, most of the two-story building area available to commercial use, internal office space for local public services. Vertical transportation - were provided by the arrival of the first floor of their respective owners.

Due to the political reason the secondary space have to be controlled. Therefore, we kept the number of tower in three. 48m

D. When we are standing on the platform, we are moved into a urban scale that different with the street level. That can bring people off from the dying daily life in the factory.

In the area of public services to meet the community’s premise, the rest of the first floor of the building area reserved for community commercial use.

Current State

Site / Project program This project is located at Yantai, Shandong. This area were started to be developed into the china wine sources, including lots of international company. The Client was based on personal interest and investment to develop one of this area. This project was start in 2009 with the pre-site and economy analysis. I was joined at early 2015 when the building was completed the main concrete structure and started the secondary structure and design stage. This is a 30,000 sq. ft architecture including 20,000 sq. ft wine factory and 10,000 sq. st. residential area for his own family. This project will be completed at early 2017 and interior and landscape construction on the coming stage.

The Winery The architect choice the peak is not the first choice but because of the views and future tourists visiting. The architecture is divided by 16 stone cladding wall by the stone from this locals. 9 walls to be used for the wine factory and 7 walls for the residential area. There are 15 dierent views formed by this 16 walls. Wine Factory was designed to face to north to enhance the daylight in factory and the east for the residential. When the sunset, the sunlight will be enter the dinning summer room and the court yard swimming pool after the grape harvest. The factory system is ran by the gravity, the grape will be send up to the peak, processed at the upper level then going down for the steaming and stored at the lowest level which the tourists will see it when the arrival.

The building is named , St. Francis Street. It is a 80’s high-end residential area in the Hong Kong old town, Wan Chai. As the time pass, the neighbor town, Admiralty, was been developed at the same time. One of the commercial building from Admiralty was built as a extension inside Wan Chai. As this project, the location is at the midden of the small area, St. Francis Street.

By find out the nature of the architecture center and the need of urban space, it is easy to be find out that the whole urban could be a gathering space of this area. It is ready for transform to any activity space of poeple need.

By comparing the 2 diagrams above, there are different type of services and activity for two independent groups of poeple, resistance and visitors/office clerks. The daily office clerks occupied the day time and the resistance and vistor enjoy the happy hour at the night time. It allowed the differents restaurants survived in this historical town and lot of potenial high-end product shops started up over here. A unique cultural space was weaved by those poeple and urban space.

A large architectural space

A icon is a evolution direction of the small town to record, transform and distribute the culture. I believe it is the duty of the architecture in here. A floating platform is a state for the event city. It is a very large negative space for poeple living in this town, a upper street space. And it is a solid statment of architecture to superimpose with the urban contents. It is the image of urban architecture.

Tai Po / The shift of the town center. Site Context - Tai Po, one of the early developed town in Hong Kong. The Tai Po Old Market station was the meeting point of the north main twon of Hong Kong when the development was started. As the time pass and the new town, station has been developed, this old market is still running very strong. But there is no population move over there, it is getting older and the younger are not using it anymore.

This project is located at old town center of re-developed district in Hong Kong, a residential town. It is strongly separated by the city grid system, away from the other estate and living area. Fu Shin Street is the old market in Tai Po even the West of New Territories. Since the town development, it is no longer to be the center of town. Population As the one of the oldest town in HK, there are different density residential building in this district. There are different classes of family, it maybe the new immigrants, the second or third generation of immigrants and the originals. They have different career form and mostly work out of town including the both parents and left children and elderly in this small old town.

Society reform - A cultural education As arm to stronger the connectivities, I, as a locals was educated without a traditional culture, would like to strategically merge the elderly and younger generation. They can look after each others and share the activities at the same time. Once the space and political allow and permit they occupation such as the traditional culture work in the public space, which mean more community activities are allowed and possibilities for our city. Then the clan grow up as the pass.

Village system Previous design / Concept diagram What we think a relatively better community within a vertical Housing building, some small semi- private space to linkup each unit, and these space will eventually connect the street level in mentally. As shown on 2. . But it will bring a strong designed stability to the users. It cause less reality of living in the big community. As shown on 3. , this is a very original system, which all of people share and redeďŹ ne by themselves.
