Japan is the world's leading aging society with an average age of 83.41 life expectancy; the gradual increase in elderly people who cannot stand independence by life-long medical care is becoming a concern of public welfare. In other words, Just because Japan has the long life expectancy, it doesn’t necessarily mean that a "longevity country" where is living many healthy elderly people.

「外と中と内がある家」 "The Housing which has an Inside & a Buffer & an Outside" 第 40 回北の住まい住宅設計競技 / 40th -KITASUMA- Northern Housing Design Competition 1st semester_May-Aug.2015

This house is nested by three vessels. Each vessel is given a gradient by external factors such as direction, sun altitude, snow cover and internal factors due to human perception. The relationship between the three vessels due to this inclination and deviation creates a new place inside and outside in this architecture.

Since the theme of this competition, which was a commemoration of 40 times, was "reconsideration of northern housing", I proposed a house with the possibility of a new way of living while referring to the avant-garde house of Hokkaido that was born in the last 40 years.

Anti-Dwelling Box / Kiko MOZUNA (1972)

Houses that have nested space structures have been seen mainly from the aspect of thermal environment, but in this house Honshu (the main island of Japan) cushioning space is designed for the middle between the outside and the inside. Hokkaido, which has a quite different architectural climate from Honshu, is a white campus with no reference. In such a remote area, it can be said that it is a proof of existence of Hokkaido in a sense that there is a house underlying a heteromorphic pure geometry.

The Ainu people has conveyed the techniques to produce costumes, tools and rituals necessary for clothing, shelter and living. These are excellent in functionality by taking advantage of the characteristics of the material, and the unique artistic beauty of the nation is expressed. In 2013, Nibutani's crafts "Ita" (tray) and "Atushi" (bark's clothing) were first designated as traditional craft items in Hokkaido. However, due to lack of successors and a decrease in tourists’ interest the traditional folk crafts are facing extinction.

"Ci-set", which refers to houses in the Ainu language, was built using local materials from the 18th century until the beginning of the 20th century. It has been restored for the exhibition in Nibutani Ainu Culture museum to demonstrate the succession of construction technology.

Ci-set is a plan that places a fireplace in the center, and some have been made semi-underground to obtain a stable thermal environment. Also in the settlement, the Ci-set's long axis were facing the same direction (in Nibutani, the direction is east because of the sun rise), so they had a sense of unity. I thought the way of living cultivated in such snowy cold areas can be applied to present by our reinterpretation.

There is a theory of a unique famine phenomenon in the Saru River basin called "moshir eru ushi".It indicates that useful plants of Ainu are depleted in lowlands along rivers, and animals also disappear so that Kotan's life cannot be maintained.Eventually it begins to grow the next generation of plants. Some parts of the Japanese elm's forest died and some parts are regenerating so that it can create situations where useful plants in the basin can be used for a long time. In Atsuta where the population shrinking area, students and researchers both in Japan and abroad observed the current situation and conducted the workshop with children. We conducted a "post project" in Atsuta that makes creative fantasy by reading the rich images latent in the local landscape and architecture, and we made architectural offers such as drawings, models, and also the picture book based on the story by children create on Atsuta. As leader of this project, I took command of the whole.

College students and architects proposed an architecture for eight stories based on each story which children made. We set the site and functions based on the story, then we made architectural offer such as plans, sketches, and models while referring to the existed buildings in Atsuta. Then these models were exhibited in Sapporo and Tokyo in July 2015 and Nov.2016 at Asty25 and Archi-Depot respectively.

We integrated the eight stories we made into one story and produced a picture book that will become a "regional textbook". These scenes are not only drawn attractive landscapes and cultural resources but also incorporates Atsuta's characteristics of the remote area and exotic expressions of collaborators (Russia and the Philippines). I was in charge of scripts and storyboards.

SOY is just an architectural student workshop that produces natural size works based on one theme. In 2014 the theme was "gravity", I produced the work with three interested students. We tried just how to express the phenomenon of falling by gravity using only a balloon mixed with air and helium, and stainless steel specular plate.

The project implemented as part of "Hokkaido University Sustainability Week". With a problem consciousness of a large amount of waste paper by the university, about 20 interested students of the Department of Architecture created public arts on campus. We imagined that scraps of paper by a shredder erode the trees like cover on nature.

We have conducted measurement surveys as one of the laboratory activities and have measured the cultural property buildings in the university and the shrines in Hokkaido so far. These surveys are intended to make it possible to evaluate their value by measuring a historic building whose drawing does not exist and making a drawing. I am primarily responsible for the attic space, and I records structure and construction method.

EDUCATION

Apr.2016-

I have practiced architecture and urbanism between the historical contexts and the emerging conditions through a site-specific approach. In addition to the historical perspective, in today’s mature society filled with diversity and an increasing elderly population, I strongly believe that it is necessary to have the knowledge to coexist with the flow of the future dynamic world. My professional goal is to construct a theory of architecture from welfare state in a mature society. To realize this, I will carry out activities across countries as an architect in the sustainable development of the built environment.
