Friedrichshafen 2010 We were extremely fortunate to have a quantity of V-Lite Infinity pairs to give away. What an incredible opportunity to be the first in the WORLD to trial a pair of our incredible trail running shoes! Customers were more than happy to remove their own shoes right there on the stand and proudly walk off wearing their Infinities! An example of the results of this seeding can be read via http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/gear-blog/who-made-the-myst ery-trail-running-shoe/7235.html.
Messe Friedrichshafen GmbH reported that 20,460 visitors from 87 nations attended the Outdoor European trade fair, surpassing the record of 19,300 set last year. Sixty percent of visitors came from outside of Germany. "Our industry has once again shown their capacity to cooperate and grow," said David Udberg , President of the European Outdoor Group ( EOG ) and Managing Director of Lowe Alpine UK at the end of the 17th OutDoor in Friedrichshafen. "The figures of the fair are very promising; the outdoor area is in a euphoric mood we had a super show." A total of 868 exhibitors from 39 countries presented, up 7% from 2009. An estimated 200 products debuted at the show. Hi-Tec certainly put on an awe-inspiring display with European customers, media and competition queuing up to report on all the exciting developments for Hi-Tec in 2011. A total of 9 plasma screens and 6 digital frames featuring the SS11 key stories of Infinity, Vigorate and ion mask played throughout the event creating a superb atmosphere on and off the stand. It is tricky to award exactly one Hi-Tec element that was the “star” of the show as every single ingredient that went into the make-up of the stand had its very own star quality!
Always an absolute pleasure to work alongside our Hi-Tec European Team! Look forward to many more inspirational shows in future!
The Liquid Mountaineering viral had visitors stopping in true amazement in the isles to watch the miracle being played on 4 large plasma screens. ion mask continued to make a splash and certainly wow’ed the crowds with its visually stunning features and benefits.

Hi-Tec World Cup Show written by Shayne Vervoort SA Marketing Manager Unfortunately all good things must come to an end. At the end of this month HI-TEC’s dominating outdoor campaign in Cape Town comes to an end. It’s been a wild ride. I wanted to tie this all up by showing everyone how the Airports turned out for the last 2 months. Johannesburg – OR Tambo International All the pillars in the Domestic Arrivals hall in Johannesburg have Hi-Tec all over them.
Cape Town International Airport
Footprints lead to and away from every pillar.
The original agreement had our boxed on the Conveyor Belts. This was an amazing campaign and got a lot of attention for the week it was up. The authorities decided it was not possible to do it because of security issues and we had to make another plan. It wasn’t as effective (and I shed a tear when we had to leave the initial campaign) but still had a lot of visual appeal. We had special boxes made and displays where set up with stacked shoe boxes.
Last but not least- Mobile light projections in and around Cape Town CBD This campaign ran for two weeks. There was some good reaction and it was something new and different for the brand. Light projections were displayed on prominent buildings and spaces in Cape Town. Thanks go to all the Capetonians who braved the cold to go and make sure the projections were happening as promised.
A massive display has to be walked around by EVERY person arriving on a domestic flight in Joburg.

New HI-TEC shops in Balcans. Distributor Jolix has opened a brand new Hi-Tec shop in Kosovo, in May (at the town Pristina) and during June the next shop will be opened in Macedonia (Skopja). The distributor is planning to open the next Hi-Tec shop in Albania till the end of the year 2010.
Operation Backpack Hi-Tec and its great team of employees, recently teamed up with Volunteers of America for Operation Backpack, an annual back-to-school community drive to provide much-needed new backpacks and school supplies to help homeless boys and girls reach their full academic potential. On Friday, July 23rd, 2010 a local drop off location was set up at the office of education in Modesto near the Hi-Tec USA headquarters and Hi-Tec generously donated 40 backpacks to the cause. Once the great team employees of the Modesto USA office heard the news of this opportunity, they purchased an additional 23 backpacks from the retail store bringing our Hi-Tec donation for Operation Backpack to 63 backpacks.
Bulgarian distributor Saxo has opened Hi-Tec shop in Plovdiv of the area 160 square metres. Photo: Shop in Kosovo.
At 5p we rolled up to the drop off location with a truck filled to the brim and we were greeted by local news station KCRA-3 for a live interview for the 5 o’clock news. What a perfect opportunity to speak to our community about the importance of helping these kids gets their education and getting them on their feet to make a difference.
Wildside Magazine
Thanks Hi-Tec
HI-TEC SA did a really great exercise the other day with Wildside magazine. We gave away 8 pairs of boots for a competition. In return they ran a full page advert twice telling people to write in with their favourite stories about what they would do with their Hi-Tec’s. We got some great responses and chose the top 8 stories to each win a pair of shoes. To top it all off the magazine used another page to publish the winning stories!
Hi Frank, Can you please pass on my sincere thanks to Hi Tec for providing the footwear for our recent Three Peaks Challenge, it was a very generous donation and much appreciated. In addition, can you please let them know that the team was incredibly impressed with the boots, both for comfort and durability during the event. Having walked 27 miles and climbed 9,000 ft all in 22hrs 03mins (not that we’re bragging or anything) we didn’t get one blister between the three of us. I have to say we were all very impressed, and personally speaking I’ll be sticking to Hi Tec in the future. Once again, many thanks, John Szparaga Commercial Director

Abseil Africa Hi-Tec is the “Official Footwear of Abseil Africa”. Now the Abseil Africa goes off Table Mountain and everyone working there is Hi-Tec emblazoned. It’s a really cool association to have and makes a big impact being involved. Below are pictures of the Jackets they wear on the mountain, the banners at the gift shop on top of the mountain and also pamphlets that get handed out on the mountain. (The Hi-Tec logo is also on every cap and t-shirt sold to tourists...so the Hi-Tec logo is going all over the world from the Mother City.)
75 and Going Strong... Written by Hi-Tec Ambassador Martin Dreyer
“It was lekker driving down into the valley early Sunday morning, sunlight through the clouds stained the cliffs on ‘Table Mountain’ a pale orange. Beside the odd early bird Zulu housewife already hanging up laundry to dry, the countryside was still asleep. That is until I arrived at Nagle Dam, and there the ‘Change a Life’ team were wide-eyed and eager to get going. Not often does African Time merge with Greenwich Meridian time. Destination – Spur Adventure Challenge at Shongweni Dam, 22km Mtb and 5km Trail run. Lovely overcast weather – perfect for racing. Ihad a freak accident stepping on a branch last week, which resulted in a thorn breaking off an inch deep in my Achilles Heel. Unable to walk two days later, I went under the knife of an Orthopaedic Surgeon Sunday morning, left the hospital half an hour later with stitches, anti-biotics and crutch in hand. It was important for me to take part as I had planned a genuine Media angle to encourage kids/parents & all to have no excuse getting outdoors and ‘just doing it’. My highly inspirational partner, Arthur Duncan, was this media angle.
Arthur is 75 years young and only recently started doing sport of any kind in his late sixties. The whole race I was in utter amazement at Arthur’s athletic ability. Arthur didn’t hesitate at the steepest part of the downhill single track, where 70% of riders were walking, which resulted in a somersault over his handlebars. Thirty seconds later he was back on his bike in my slipstream. Tentative to try run so soon I was more than happy to walk the Trail Run, but this was not to be, as Arthur ran the flats and downhill. Not even the rugged underfoot riverbed and water crossing sections could deter Arthur’s forward progression. To think I still have 34 more years of such fun to look forward to…. We crossed the finish line all smiles, a truly inspirational experience for me, thanks a mil Arthur, I salute you!”

Adventure Park Brasov Thanks go to Martin Linek for sending in the latest Hi-Tec brand coverage received at the extremely popular Adventure Park in Brasov.
Hey guys, just wanted to thank y'all for making such a solid product. As a Photographer for the National Parks, I've been to 47 US states and 140 National Parks in the last 1000 days. Your boots have seen glaciers, deserts, swamps and today....2000 year old lava flows at Craters of the Moon National Monument. My colleague snapped this shot of me (and your boots) negotiating a Lava rift. I'll bet you didn't know your boots could fly, huh? Keep up the good work! --Frank Lee Ruggles
Hi-Tec Support The good folks at Magnetic South in South Africa (the company who organizes the Otter and Southern Storm) are at it again! A while back they got a group of underprivileged students together and taught them about the ins and outs of event management. HI-TEC are on such good terms with them, they kitted out all the students in the brand so that the press release was more Hi-Teccy than usual.
Welcome David!
It’s good to know our brand is getting out there but also to know that it’s being used for good things!
Hi-Tec Canada Appoints Outdoor Industry Veteran as CEO Hi-Tec Canada is proud to announce the new appointment of David Battler as CEO, Canada. SA Squash Promo HI-TEC SA have joined forces with Dunlop (racquets) to hold a promotion in leading Court retailer Sportsmans Warehouse. Both brands co-sponsor the player (Amr Shabana) who won the World Championship for a 4th time last year. Holding a promotion with his face on gives us a lot of credibility as a Squash brand. For every Dunlop racquet or pair of Hi-Tec’s sold over the period we gave away a pair of Hi-Tec socks. 10 people have the chance to win a grand prize which is an Amr Shabana player pack - a set of all his gear ie. TOP OF THE RANGE STUFF. By doing a co-promotion we also have more touch points in the store – at the footwear wall AND at the squash racquet section.
Salvation Army USA In the spirit of community and a passion for the outdoors, Modesto’s own Hi-Tec Sports is supporting the local chapter of The Salvation Army in sending local kids to camp. Project Camp Redwood Glen sends hundreds of children each summer, to enjoy fresh air, exercise and the beautiful outdoors. Hi-Tec has donated footwear for these children attending camp from the Stanislaus County area. By having appropriate footwear for camp, these children will surely enjoy their camp experience and thrive from their outdoor adventure.
Nearly 50 kids from the Stanislaus County area received a tour of the Hi-Tec, Modesto facility and receive their gift of shoes on Thursday, July 15, 2010 and headed off to camp the following week. “We are delighted to partner with Hi-Tec Sports in outfitting some very deserving youth with quality shoes before they depart for camp,” said Major Kelly Pontsler, Golden State Divisional General Secretary for The Salvation Army. “For some children, this will be their first time attending an outdoor summer camp. Having good footwear for both hiking and playing is essential for making this summer camp experience a memorable one.” We are proud to give to these children who, in the past, have gone to camp with unsuitable shoes such as flip flops and outsoles that have been taped back on. Getting these kids outside and encouraging a memorable trip will surely be their introductory experience to many more outdoor adventures.
Incredible Shoes Hi-Tec shoes are Incredible! I'm about to leave on a short hike with a friend right now and put on a pair of your hiking boots that I have had for at least ten years! (I was 12 then) when I bought them they were a little big on me but were comfortable anyway and I never had a problem with them. Since then I have grown into them and they are still serving me well after trips to Yosemite and Rainer and even the Swiss Alps. They look pretty beat-up but they still work fine and feel great so I thought i just give a quick shout out and say, "thanks Hi-Tec for making a great shoe" I've had them for ten years but am not in the market for a new pair. If it’s not broke don't fix it! Thanks again A very loyal HI-TEC Customer!

Four Days of Marching
Cape Union Mart
The International Four Day Marches Nijmegen (or Vierdaagse) is the largest marching event in the world. It is organised every year in Nijmegen in mid-July as a means of promoting sport and exercise. Participants walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometers daily, and, on completion, receive a royally approved medal (Vierdaagsekruis). The participants are mostly civilians, but there are also a few thousand military participants. This year the Hi-tec/ Falcon walking team did it!
Hi-Tec SA ran a very successful promotion (together with SANParks) in ALL Cape Union Mart Stores for an entire month (from about March 23 to April 23). It is a great time to promote Hi-Tec shoes with Winter (our busy time) coming up and so to have our entire shoe collection in the windows is super for us. Joining forces with SANParks to give away R100 000’s worth of prizes (Hi-Tec shoes and SANParks getaways).
The total team reached the finish line on Friday for the 160 km.
This was a massive opportunity and doesn’t come around all the time. Mickey swayed Cape Union to give us this chance and it has paid off! The promotion comprised of 4 different elements. The Cape Union Mart Window Displays.
Sensor Matic Covers (those things that beep when you take something from the store without paying). The competition forms filled out by all people buying things in Cape Union Mart over the month.
Cape Union Mart’s newsletter going out to all subscribers.
The great thing about this promotion is we can re-use the banners that have been printed. We insisted that the banners don’t have the Cape Union Mart logo on so that we can use the banners in independent stores after the promotion. We have also redesigned the Hi-Tec side of the Cape Union Mart bag. This is great to get some new energy into our half of the bags that get used everywhere in the country. We linked it up to all the outdoor advertising campaign in Cape Town. The whole MOVE TO ADVENTURE theme gives us a nice design and also something that will speak to tourists and locals alike.

The Dartmoor Walk
Finnish Squash Victory
Written by Mark Bankover (UK Technical Representative)
An organised walk with 14 guys/girls from the Millets stores down in the South West region of the country. After completing several training sessions, and sometimes not having that sense of achievement with the sometimes tricky staff, I realised I needed to put a different spin on how Hi-Tec promotes our unique products. A lot of organisation and telephone calls, and we finally got there!!! The numbers increased on a daily basis, and the calls/text messages for people asking to come on the walk was truly incredible, the presence of Hi-Tec and what we were trying to achieve from the evening was really being noticed.
Is it natural talent or was it his Hi-Tec S700?
The build up to the event was key in making sure everything ran as smoothly as possible, and through my conversations with the Park, I was able to get an experience guide to assist our walk at no extra cost. This took the pressure off myself in ensuring a safe and viable route, and meant I was fully focussed on the job at hand, talking to each and every person in that group, and inspiring them about our products, providing a thorough and fun training session out of their store comfort.
Thanks to our Finnish Distributors for sharing this marvelous story concerning #2 Finnish Squash player Martias Tuomi. They supplied Martias with a pair of the S700 and he played in them straight away in The Russian Open. Martias WON! His feedback is simple, he said he LOVED them! Congratulations Martias!
Nijmeegse Vierdaagse The whole evening was a complete success, none more so than taking the guys through the stream, with literally every single person having that sense of amazement on their face, talking amongst themselves, that their feet were completely bone dry. I felt a real sense of achievement when they came up to me, and were asking even more questions, and being genuinely excited about what they had just road-tested. Talking to a variety of people, both young and old, no-one had a bad word to say, comfort, the outsole, the lightweight boot they had just vigorously tested was just so comfortable. A quote from an individual, read the following: “At the end of the two and half hour Boot camp. . . I mean walk :-) My feet were fine; I had no problems with pain whereas normally I have pain in my left foot after walking a couple of hours. Even the next day I had no after effects of wearing new boots and not having time to 'break them in'. All in all I am very impressed with the look, comfort and waterproofing of the Altitude Ultra Luxe boots.” “(Oh, just one more problem with the boots. . . I now have the struggle with keeping them away from my daughter who is very interested in them too!) You haven't got a spare pair in a size 5 have you!!! :-) .” With the reviews constantly coming through, following our National Trust launch, regarding the online digital information, I am hopeful these reviews can be shared amongst many thousands enabling consumers to get that first hand experience before actually purchasing the product. The photos were fantastic (attached at end)
The Telegraaf is the biggest news paper in Holland and we are on the third page with our Walk lite’s. This article is about the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse. An event where more than 40.000 people walk between the 30 and 50KM every day for 4 day’s. We have a HI-TEC team (11 people) walking. Just think that this goes on from 4:30 in the morning till about 17:00 in the afternoon. The whole road is covered by spectators and music. 45000 people walk for 4. Days. this event is covered by the tv .
I had a very positive meeting with Dartmoor National Park, with regards to sponsorship opportunities, potential inventory we could both use, advertising opportunities, and similar events they are keen to hold, where Hi-Tec would be key to provide footwear on the basis for even more ‘on the hill training’.

The Q1 INTERSPORT UK show held over two days at the AIS headquarters in Solihull is set in the perfect location in the middle of the country, whilst at the same time offering fantastic facilities. The Intersport UK group is made up of 71 retailers many with more than one shop. Elverys, based in Ireland make up a large proportion of the 173 stores with 59. Intersport retailers have been and are traditionally premium sports shops in good locations with good shop fits. They are also known for the quality of their staff and advice available. The Intersport group has seen a surge in membership since The Allied buying group dissolved earlier this year with many former Allied members joining up with more to come.
Our three fantastic new franchises; Infinity, Vigorate and Total Terrain were received well. This was good news considering the customers we were presenting to were not our primary targets with this product. Virtually all Intersport members are sports shops or back to school shops, so to get positive product recognition at this show is great news. Thanks to all the Sales and Marketing team for their help
Another Happy Customer Dear Sir, I have not written to anybody before about their products (good or bad ) but I must tell you how pleased I have been with the Hi-Tec V-Lite boots. I must have done over 1000 miles with my first pair and have just worn the soles down to nothing. Just come back from a hard walk in the Cevennes in France with my second pair, just as comfortable and robust and I have never ever had any blisters, WELL DONE! Regards Roger Colgate

Fastest Ever Shoes
USA Sales Launch
Written by Dayna Panales US PR Manager
Hi-Tec USA’s sales launch was truly “Inspired by Life.” As we stepped off the plane in Jackson Hole, Wyoming being we’re greeted by an expansive blue sky with majestic mountains bordering the horizon we knew this was going to be an amazing way to kick off Hi-Tec Inspired by Life.
Hi-Tec has always been the boot of choice of the famed Otter Hiking Trail in South Africa. But that was for the 5 day hike that people normally associate with the picturesque trail. When it was run for the first time ever last year Hi-Tec decided to make sure it was the shoe of choice when running the trail as well. So when the trail running record broke the 5 hour barrier last year it was fitting that it was a pair of Hi-Tecs that did it. At the end of the Hiking Trail (in Natures Valley) there is a little pub where everyone celebrates the finish of the hike. The custom is to throw worn out shoes (shoes that didn’t quite make the whole 5 days) into the tree. So what we did is get the pair of shoes that won the event framed and now they hang proudly next the bar. This is great for the brand and the little plaque on the frame reads “The First and Only shoes to ever do the Otter Trail in under 5 hours.” (Even if this year another shoe brand happens to go under 5 hours we can just change the plaque to say “The First shoe to ever do the Otter Trail in under 5 hours.”
Forever Hi-Tec Just thought i would send you a message to let you know about my trainers. I bought a pair of Hi-Tec squash trainers when I was at high school for sport, I must have been about 13 or 14 at the time. I am now 36 and my trainers are still going strong!! They are not as white as they used to be and are now used for gardening. They have been through the washing machine several times and the laces have been replaced but the shoe itself is fine. Surely this must be some sort of record? I was in a shoe shop recently to buy my 13 year old son a pair of shoes and seen the same trainers on the shelf and told him and the shop assistant about my own ones and they couldn't quite believe it. It really shows what great shoes they are to have lasted so long but surely you are missing out on repeat business!! Anyway, just thought you might find this interesting as I’m sure you like to get good positive feedback, and when these do eventually fall apart you can rest assured that i will replace them with another pair of Hi-Tec’s.
Every detail of this sales launch truly aligned itself with our core values, Proud, Honest, Fun, Hungry! From the chosen location and perfect outdoor adventure setting of Hotel Terra in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to saying goodbye at the end made us PROUD to be a part of this new era of Hi-Tec. Day one of sales meeting lent itself to core value number two, Honest. Hearing from marketing and learning more about the Inspired by Life mantra gave us all focus on the new mission of the Hi-Tec brand. An overview of the New Spring 2011 apparel and footwear lines certainly embodied the HONEST integrity of the brand as supported by the comfortable, well thought-out collections. We are so excited about the new things Hi-Tec has to offer and welcome the work ahead of us over this next selling season. However, our team was not all work and no play. On the afternoon of day two, we all piled into buses then in to boats on the Snake River with the weather beginning to get a little gray overhead. As we unloaded all the boats at the end of the ride, we all agreed, we never had so much FUN before getting rained and hailed on. After was all said and done we were sad to leave such a great meeting with the amazing teams represented there, however, we were HUNGRY to get out and tell the world about the new Hi-Tec Inspired by Life direction and the exciting collections that lead the charge of some great core brand values. Hi-Tec USA is truly Inspired by Life!

Golf Success
Hi-Tec Series
Written by Keith Dicker European Golf Manager Just to update you on the successes of some up and coming young players that are wearing the CDT Purespeed shoes. David Orr David was given the shoes by our Scottish agent Douglas McCaig. Since wearing them he has won the Scottish Club Professional Championship and is absolutely sold on the shoes and their concept.
In the first picture there is evidence of the " debut " of the V-Lite Infinity HPi in Argentinian territory !!! thank you very much for this pair that I kindly received from you in Cape Town ; they are fantastic , lightweight, very confortable and still dry in spite of the water and muddy surface .
Lloyd Kennedy Lloyd was given the shoes by Simon Everitt. He had a very successful amateur career before turning pro two years ago. At this year’s qualifying school he earned his PGA European Challenge tour players card. So far this season he has played in 6 events and saw him shoot a 67 in the final round of the Mugello Tuscany Open to finish =3rd. He currently lies 15th in the order of merit and can’t say enough good words about the CDT concept.
In the 2nd picture the Sports & Adventure staff happy after the event .
Best Regards, Eduardo
Welcome Neil Burrows Jack Clarke Jack was given his shoes by me . This is his second season as a pro and although he missed out on gaining his playing privileges at the qualifying school he has been allowed to play in the local UK East Region PGA events (Essex, Suffolk, Norlfolk, Middlesex, Cambridgeshire, Beds & Bucks) in recognition of his achievements as an amateur. So far this year he has won to my knowledge at least 4 times in these events and due to the fact that he cannot be placed upon the order of merit he can take the prize money. He has told me that they are the best golf shoes he has ever worn and can feel the difference, and he wears size 12!!!

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Burrows as Senior Footwear Technologist for First Brands, effective 30th July 2010. Neil has extensive knowledge and experience of the private label footwear business having worked with William Lamb in the UK, China and Thailand and latterly he has been working for Hunter Boot Ltd in the Shanghai area of China. Neil’s responsibilities at First Brands will include all product testing, fitting and QA procedures, management of the sample sealing process plus ethical and technical factory auditing. Please join me in wishing Neil an enjoyable and successful career with First Brands and Hi-Tec, he will be moving to the area with his family so no doubt would appreciate any tips of the dos and don’ts of Southend life!

SOTA 2010
Turkish Store Openings
From the Start.... what two men can do with a power drill and bolts! These are some of the images from the SOTA show Sydney, from the build to the end. Just a quick acknowledgement to Glenn Lill who put this whole thing together the photos do not do it justice, it really did look amazing. The Hi-Tec stand had to be the best one at the show, from this already in NZ some customers want display material used at the show. So Glenn great work in pulling this all together‌
Hi-Tec’s Turkish distributors Endo Spor are rapidly growing having recently opened another new shop in Turkish city Iskenderun. This store is a franchise shop and the company plans to open more franchise stores outside of Istanbul. The stores in Istanbul itself are fully owned by the distributor company. Hi-Tec takes one of prime positions in this shop as in all Ender Spor stores. The images feature the wonderful Mr. Aleksan Kazan, the owner of our Turkish partners whom we all know from last year Istanbul GL. The second image is showing Hi-Tec shoes slatwall and also Hi-Tec image. Mr. Aleksan said that at least 2 new stores are planned to be opened by the end of 2011.

WEG/Go Advertorials
HI-TEC SA did 4 advertorials on SANParks Hiking Trails over the year in Weg/Go magazine. The response has been phenomenal! Hiking trails that were strugging are now fully booked over the holiday season and our association with the park is at an all time high. The last one we did was for the Otter Trail – and it is by no coincidence that the Southern Storm and Otter happen at the end of the Month which the magazine goes to print in (September). We would have loved to put the Infinity in as the chosen shoe but instead chose on the Ultra for the Otter hike. But we did start getting people ready for Infinity.
