Project Requirement As part of their global expansion, this client was looking to create a number of data centres around the world. Each data centre is built to specific design requirements for power and data. The first step in the installation is ensuring that the existing containment is available to support both the proposed new power and data. Once the containment is in place, the power and data cabling is installed to supply the hardware and provide the services. Puffin was invited to deliver this work for the client within their facility in Holland thanks to our experience of installing both power and data within data centre environments. The first phase of the work involved ensuring that the containment was in place to accommodate both the power and data Infrastructure. As the containment was built, it was realised that the power infrastructure needed extending to accommodate the needs of the new facility. This involved installing new sections of Siemens2500 amp bus bar. Finally there was the installation of the structured cabling which had to be installed to demanding standards.
Project Scope Before commencing the work it was necessary to complete an in depth site survey to confirm the requirements. Once these requirements were identified and agreed, a team was deployed to site to complete the following works. The supply and installation of cable containment solutions for both power and data applications. This involved moving existing basketwork and installing over 1,000m of new containment. The installation and testing of high level bus bar power distribution solutions, each distributing up to 2500 amps across the data centre. Installation and testing of 160amps bus bar to each row in accordance to the Customer design. Installation of over 1,600 tap off boxes and associated fuses. Installation and testing of both pre-terminated and field terminated fibre connectivity. Installation and testing of Category 6 LSOH UTP connectivity.
Conclusion Working in very demanding environment and to some of the tightest time scales to date with the project changing and evolving all the time, Puffin Solutions managed to meet all deadlines and still achieve the high standards required by the customer.
