In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Ways that our media product used real media conventions We used the framing of a typical country pop music video in order to make full use of our sceneries. We also imitated the glowing lighting used in Nerina Pallot’s music video of ‘Sophia’. The props we used in our music video conveyed a recognizable image for the audience to see. The image of the artist playing an instrument on their own is often used in country The close ups we used in our music videos. music video are a typical use in various music videos , as they show the artists emotions. This would help the audience relate For our music video, we included and empathize with the artist. a lot of flashbacks of memories with the artist and her partner, so to signify these scenes we changed the color of the clips to a Sepia tone. This type of The transitions used in our music technique is used commonly video such as the wash in on the left with many music videos to, helped the video flow as well as especially with our type of music conveying the narrative clearly. genre.
Ways that our media product developed real media conventions Throughout our music video, one setting that we had a lot of footage of was the clip of our artist singing and playing the guitar. Usually in music videos there is a repetition of a main location, where the background is usually eye catching but for our shots of our artist singing, we had fog which developed our video as the fog almost blurred the background and made the audience focus on the artist.
Challenged Typical star image: Taylor Swift Country Pop Singer
Our Artist – Challenging the conventions
Katie Melua Jazz Singer
We also challenged conventions with our settings as usually country pop music videos are set in more country locations. However, ours was based in London and we included icons of the city such as the red bus. We challenged this to show the audience more about the artists personal life as she now lives in London.
Our artist doesn’t look like a typical county singer, but looks more like a typical jazz/soul singer for example, Katie Melua, Nora Jones and NerinaPallot. We decided to challenge this aspect because we wanted to attract a wider audience, as her typical look isn’t Blonde hair and blue eyes. Also we challenged it to contrast the image to the relationship of the music.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

We decided to film our ‘audience’ watching our video and then we asked them a series of questions afterwards about what they thought about our work.
Snapshot from the video on Youtube.
Audience Feedback Questions 1. What did you find good about our video? 1. What could we have improved in our video? 1. Did you feel connected to the artist? 1. Who do you think is our target audience?
What we actually leaned from our audience feedback? The general feedback that we got from our video was that what we did well was conveying the narrative. I think this worked well because we created the feeling that the main actress was thinking about old memories of her and her ex-boyfriend; we used the ‘wash in, wash out’ transitions and the sepia tone on the ‘memory’ sequences. Things we could have improved were using a variety of camera angles in order to make the video less repetitive and boring. Next time we will experiment more with the cameraeven If we are filming the same thing e.g. Treeva playing the guitar, we could try and film it in various ways to make it more interesting. People who could relate to the issue of being in a relationship could relate well to the artist so in order to attract a wider audience, we could have created a series of short storylines in the music video which fit the lyrics. We were happy with the response about who the target audience seemed to be (teenage girls). We were aiming to attract the more female and young audience seeing as our researched involved artists who attract the similar audience e.g. Taylor Swift.
