SLIME

SLIME is kind of a robot to interfere in the public space in the future, provides a new type of public space for users. It can work in single or group, changing different public landscape and providing different functions for different requirements. By transmitting digital spaces in other public spaces, SLIME can affect users in a more efficient way. At last, public space will become a dynamic space with Initiative and Tansmission.
Preface
Future, an unknown but attractive word. For many years people enjoy imaging the faces of the future by thier own ways. Although there are differents between the opinions, the advanced technology is indispensable, some of them even already achieved now. However, architecture seems does not have too much evolution in these images. High-tech devices hanged on the building, but the space and the program do not have any different with nowaday. So what would happen if the space really evolved ?
The Future of The Past 1900, a German company Hildebrands released a series of postcards about the future. These postcards for imaged the life of 100 years later, including individual aircraft, moving house, underground city and amphibious boat. These pictures show how people expect to the future.

Phenomenon Since mobile devices gaining popularity, people's habits have changed drastically. When people have a free time, they use their mobile devices immediately. Although the information has become so easy to get, we began to ignore the interaction with people around us. But change may become a chance, I expect to predict possible future lifestyle and find the opportunity to make the architecture space revolution.

3D Mapping SYSTEM
BIG
In a presentation from the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2010 by BIG, using a technology of 3D projection to display a dynamic model. The “real”3D objects give people a real sense of perspective to fit the image it projected.
This project cut a part of the model and use three surface to display the other environment. By this way, the model can show not only one type but several dynamic situation of the design.

PlayStation3 In 2011 a project funded by the Video Store of PlayStation® Store, making a series of movie related videos using 'Immersive Imaging' which takes 3D projection mapping as its starting point, but gives the viewer a supercharged experience with the help of the PlayStation Move controller.
By attaching the PlayStation Move to the camera, we can track projections to screens in real time, enhancing the effect of spatial deformation and false perspective on the projections.

2012, Rabbit Hole Creative worked closely with MUTEMATH and 44 Production Designs to bring their vision to life. The team built a scale model of the 25’ wide by 14’ tall scenic to present test projections. The final result was an exciting visual experience that stunned audiences and press nationwide.
The projection screen set in a certain shape to make the sense of perspective stronger, and the image have to fit the angle of the screen so it will be more stereoscopic. The projection is not only a video but a space which after a precise calculation.

BOX
It explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. In 2013, Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration.
The screen that combine with two surface by different angles make the same pattern have different sense of perspective.

Dynamic Model Magnetic Putty
Magnetic putty can be influenced by magnetic force, changing the shape in a special way. By making a device to control the magnetic and limit the space, finding the posibility and the characteristic of the material. The putty transformed to different shape in fixed volume, the surface increased in the same time and the space appeared in different way.
SIMULATION Connect plastic cups by a string in a certain distance, the cups can be extended in different angles and creating more space and surface. In this type, complex number of pyramid were been connected,and two unit can been extend from a same surface. Although the number of combination growed, seems it needs a more serious rule.
TRANSFORMATION The size of pyramid followed a certain rule and connected in afixed distance so I can control it easily. The model can be combined by different size of pyramid and extended the space and surface.
The rule of the shape of pyramid can be calculated, and we can predict the space or surface which is required.
SLIME 1.0 SLIME is a dynamic model that controled by four servos, placed on four corner of a triangular cone. When the control point in the center was moved, four surface of the model formed different space.
SYSTEM
In this dynamic model, four surface change their shape in the same time when the control point move at the center of the pyramid. The perspective point change with the shape, and can fit to different space style.

This rule gives a aimple way to connect the unit, but the whole system will become a fixed structure and only the screen move inside.
By connecting in this rule, every single unit can be moved when another one change the shape, but the structure may be a little weak.

Changing the scale can adjust the distance of each other units.
Connecting the point of the group can create new shapes.
Part of the elements in the unit can be canceled.
By mixing nearby units, bigger space can be creatived.
SLIME 2.0 The 2.0 ver. improve the problem of the distance of the moving, and put another same SLIME at the control point. Now it have a main unit and a sub-unit, the relation between two unit should be founded.

Use the original size of the unit to be the sub-unit.
Rules The height of the surface of the botton of the sub-unit was limited by the height of the main unit, the unit in this range can make maximum amount of moving.
Scale
Change the scale to get the manimum amount of moving.
The size of the surface of the botton of the sub-unit was limited by the length of the main unit, the unit in this range can make maximum amount of moving.
Transform
When the angle is bigger than 54 degrees, the lenght cannot longer than the main unit. When it smaller than 54 degrees, the lenght was free.

After figure out the way to create SLIME, deside the size in the real world is the next step. Follow some steps can deside the size in different public space.

The type of users is a first condition to choose the size. In Taipei Main Station, children and the people who lie on the floor narrow the range that SLIME can influence they easily.

Flow In weekday, seldom people stay in the lobby, most of them have their own purpose and passed quickly. At this time, the big public space become a flowing space, poeple acrosssing the space with nothing program.

Using the four devices that making by the digital way to reproduce four natural phenomens, after the experiments the recorded data can be a feedback for the equation. The equation can be a scientifically way to get the information between the space and human, figure out new type of public space.
Heap of the Sand In nature, the sand influenced by various elements and pilled into different shapes. To get a systematic data, I need a environment that influenced by only few controlled variables, and the result can be easily record.
System This machine was designed for recording the patterns of the sand, by flowing the random holes on the different layers, the sand piled into different patterns, and the drawer can help us easily record the data.
Transform into Digital The different group in grasshopper can accurately adjust the value of the controlled variables, so the result can be easily mastered.
Tint of the Water By the capillarity of the paper, water can climb up on it and leave the tint. To record it, I created a machine to hold the paper and use colors to get the tint more easily.
System This machine was designed for recording the patterns of the water, the random colors mixed with each others and climbed up on the paper, leaved clear tint to be recorded.
Transform into Digital The different group in grasshopper can accurately adjust the value of the controlled variables, so the result can be easily mastered.
Imprint of the Light When the light shining throw the objects, the shadow appears and the imprint can be recognized. To get the shape of it, this machine can control the light in a certain space, and record it on the bromide paper.
System This machine was designed for recording the patterns of the light, by shining throw the random holes on the layers, the light and shadow printed on the bromide paper, and the imprint can be easily record.

Shape of the Voice Although the voice is invisible, we can still throw other object to recognize it, and the fine sand can be influenced more easily by the voice.
System This machine was designed for recording the patterns of the voice, by the shake from the voice, fine sand fall down and formed differnent patterns to be record easily.

After the 512 Sichuan earthquake, the locol elementary need to be rebuild in a more safe and more economical way. Transforming the rubble of the collapsed building in the earthquack to the material of lower part of the school, and the locally produced bamboo to the higher part, making a safe and inspirational school.

Luckily, I had many opportunities to travel abroad. In the past few years, I have been to Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, France, Switzerland and Spain by myself, these are not only the journey for architecture but for my horizons.
