Urban Landscape System Studio 2013

The goal of this studio is to discover tools for a sustainable planning and design of urban landscape. The studio takes Seoul as object, choosing the Gangdong-gu and Songpa-gu wards. It starts with an investigation into landscape ecology and history. We analyze maps of geomorphology and define a pattern for the landscape. This pattern is basically a geomorphological system defined by mountains and rivers. Departing from historic maps we find out how occupation patterns follow or negate this system, leading to the story of the place. We find out where this landscape system is still readable in the modern city and where it is lost. Four pilot projects intend, as test cases to repair the landscape system and increase and improve resilience and identity of the city.
