Poised at the intersection of mindfulness and leadership, 1440 vanguard immersion learning courses will help you expand your knowledge, hone your skills and advance on your career path with confidence.

Organizational Wellness

Fulfill the wellness of your workplace – mind, body, heart, spirit and soul – and tap into your ability to restore morale, empower employees, build resilience and infuse generative energy into your organization. 1440 invites you to study and practice with top researchers, teachers and presenters in nutrition, movement, mindfulness, self-compassion and more, to build your organizational health, wellness and vitality.

Diversity & Inclusion

1440 Multiversity supports organizations, faculty, strategic partners and programs that value and incorporate diversity into their work – electing not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service or other non-merit factors.

1440 also values inclusion – the achievement of a work environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, and can contribute fully to the organization’s success. Personal Growth

We all have moments when we wish we knew more about how to thrive in certain areas. At 1440, our Personal Growth programs connect you and your company with experts who guide and customize experiences that you can apply to real-life circumstances.

Perhaps you are always rushing and feel like life is passing you by, and think you may benefit from more mindfulness and stress-reducing skills. Or after an argument with a colleague, you wonder if better communication techniques could lead to stronger and more meaningful working relationships. Other times, you may want to attend a workshop with the country’s best-known life coach who shares practices for living a more fulfilled life. 1440 Multiversity offers support for these situations and more through its personal growth programs.

Work Well in Action Kauffman Fellows: Global innovation in the redwoods

KAUFFMAN FELLOWS IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL and widely connected groups of venture capitalists and innovation leaders in the world, and its fellowship program spans two years with fellows and mentors from 50 different countries. 1440 Multiversity recently welcomed Kauffman Fellows to campus as the setting for the organization’s important work, and Jeff Harbach, president and CEO, shared about his experience hosting the the organization’s largest annual leadership module at 1440.

1440 Multiversity: Tell us about Kauffman Fellows and the leadership module you hosted at 1440. Jeff Harbach: Kauffman Fellows is a behavioral fitness program focused on helping individuals become the best versions of themselves so they can support entrepreneurs in new and innovative ways that help them grow their businesses. The fellowship is a twoyear program with seven modules and two international summits. Each June a new class begins their fellowship. At this event we bring them together with the class starting their second year and the class who will graduate. It’s our biggest event of the year other than our international summit, and the graduation is intimate and emotional.

1440: What happens during this module? Harbach: Kauffman Fellows from all over the world participate in a series of exercises through which they become very open, vulnerable, and transparent with each other. They build trust quickly during this module. New fellows are divided into small groups, their forum for the two years. That forum becomes their trusted expert network in both their professional and personal spheres of life. It becomes their accountability group, their support group, and their group that celebrates life's wins and mourns life’s tough times.

1440: Why did you choose the 1440 Multiversity campus? Harbach: We chose 1440 because it’s so directly aligned with what we want the spirit of our event to be. Scott Kriens, co-creator of 1440, believes in what our fellowship enables: real, authentic conversations that matter. That’s what we do with all our different interactions in Kauffman Fellows, and that’s what 1440 is about. Before planning to host the module at 1440, we had been to 1440 for an off-site. At that time, Scott spoke to our team and told us about the meticulous attention that is paid to all 75 acres of the 1440 campus, every single square foot, because you never know when that moment of inspiration is going to happen for someone — whether it’s while walking along the trails, while being served your personally plated meal, or anywhere else throughout the property. We love that thought. We tell our fellows the same thing: you never know when the inspiration will hit you, so it’s important to be ready to receive it.

1440: Have you heard any stories from the fellows about how their time here helped create relationships that support them in furthering their work in the world?

Harbach: Two fellows from different classes met by chance when a bunch of the fellows were together enjoying the grounds of 1440. Due to the nature of the campus, these fellows had an opportunity to connect in a much deeper way than in more traditional settings. One of them was a Limited Partner (LP) and one was a General Partner (GP), and it turned out that the LP ended up investing in that GP’s funds. While perhaps they could have met in another module, the fact is that they were in this environment where they weren’t all going out to different venues for dinner or drinks and they were able to meet in a serendipitous moment perfectly set up by 1440. The GP told me, “That was one of my LPs, that was huge for me.”

Fellows continue to tell me about what an amazing experience it was, the breathtaking atmosphere in the Sanctuary for graduation, and that they hope we will return. As we think about helping these fellows go on a journey of becoming the best versions of themselves — which starts with taking a very deep look into themselves and becoming much more self-aware — we want them to be in a place where they can focus on helping each other and connecting in a deep way.

Because 1440’s campus feels private and secluded, it creates this magic bubble for meaningful connection. •

Whether you relax into moments of curiousity by walking along the redwood trails, sharing locally sourced meals at Kitchen Table or connecting with others around the fire pits outside Common Grounds café, you can spend your moments here being present with whatever comes “ Some might come to a learning destination like 1440 in search of belonging, wholeness or connection. Part of what I see happening here is a subtle reminder that we are all part of the shared community of living beings and as such, are intimately engaged with the flow, breath and being “ up for you.”of Nature.” — —JOANIE KRIENS, 1440 MULTIVERSITY CO-CREATOR GARY MARCOCCIA, 1440 SIGNATURE CLASS INSTRUCTOR AND NATURE GUIDE
