‘Book to the Future’ Theme of Summer Program The Hickam Summer Reading program is an annual event for youth. This year’s ‘Book to the Future’ theme was selected to compliment the Visions of the Universe Exhibit that is coming here in July. Participants are encouraged to read or be read to and log their readings in. It is not so much a contest as it is an effort to promote reading. The reading logs are collected at the end of the Summer Reading Program and the results are tallied. The Hickam Friends of the Library provide prizes and refreshments to the top readers in each age category. Top readers may select a prize of their choice followed by random drawings for the remaining prizes including a super cool grand prize! Every child receives a goody bag for participating. There is no requirement to read books on the selected theme, just to read as much as possible. Registration for summer reading begins on June 15. Hickam Library was one of only 40 libraries nationwide chosen to host the ‘Visions of the Universe’ Exhibit. Make sure you make plans to see it in July.
