01 THE HEALING ORCHARDS OF PANZHIHUA,SICHUAN, CHINA DIPLOMA PROJECT| 2020 Autumn
The project is called the healing orchards of panzhihua, The project explores the possibility of combining spontaneous agriculture with landscape remediation and public space revaluation in the post-industrial city of Panzhihua.
SUPERVISOR: Karin Helmes, Miguel Hernández Quintanilla
The project is based on the transformation of the water management system of a residential neighborhood while proposing spaces and infrastructure for people to meet, cultivate and share with each other.

The Healing Orchards of Panzhihua,The path of water
The path of water. The idea is to collect those extra rainwater in water pond during raining season and when it comes to dry season , the water storage could offer irrigation for those plots, going through the mean water channel, then distribute into small plots. They cut the topography, guiding water from the top of the neighborhoods to their bottoms. The mean factors are consists of water storage ponds, mean channel and waterscape belt. The waterscape belt connects those separated parts into a whole system.

The healing orchards. Before design, The farming plots of the neighbors were built spontaneously in a chaotic way. They are not easy to access and quite unproductive. Understanding the logics of the rice terraces of Longsheng,China, the plots will be rebuilt on riddles that follow the topographical contours. The path with gentle slope offers an universal access to the whole terraces, which is a safe and comfortable way to walk around . The public space are created from those intersection between terrace and path.

With fruit tree array, we could easily sense the change of seasons. The bright blossom in spring, the greenery in summer, the colorful fruits in autumn. Trees could conserve water and soil to prevent erosion, and the fallen leaves can fertile the soil , which will be beneficial for crops underneath. The fruit species are chosen based on the local monsoon weather, there will be a harvest of fruits almost all year around, which could enrich citizen’s diet.

Summer beach, forest and hilly rock pathway
Situated on Homilia, Hvervenbukta is always a popular and crowded beach in summer. During 19th, there used to be a big farm yard with summer palace, before the whole area was burnt down at the end of 20th, a lot of parties happened here.We consider to expand the recreation area since it will be overcrowed those years.By tracing the historical farm, we use the geometry and axis to create the new space based on the old map.

Stubljan Park is located next to Hvervenbukta beach,at the coastline in Holmilia. It is a part of the project Symmetrical Garden. By tracing the map of the historical farm, the triangular shape and old topography are brought into my design. The main purpose of this park is to extend the beach area for children and people with dogs. There are 2 main parts in this park, the sandy beach and the dog beach, with 3 view points in between. The sandy beach is mainly designed for children and family or people's gathering. The dog beach is for those who like to walk dogs in the nature,or make friends with other dog's owner.

This studio proposes landscapes and architectures for marine investigation. The research stage is particularly informed by comtemporary research techniques that involve the representation of the ocean as space and habitat. It begins with existing lighthouses as a framework for a dispersed research center.
Whether it be a silent companion of fishermen out at sea, or a magnificent beast to conquer and claim, the whale has forever held a mythical place in the mind of man. When all practice of commercial whaling inevitably ends, the human relationship with whales will again be that of observation and imagination. Recently whale researchers traced a Humpback whale migrating from the Barents Sea to the Caribbean Sea, and all the way back again. This awe-inspiring journey truly shows that the whale belongs to no one but the ocean.

The project explores the border between literality and abstraction. In our landscape of literal whales, we use the sheer scale of the being to convey the vastness of the ocean. Removed from their domain, their form becomes somewhat alien. By contouring the whales‘ 3D Models by 0.1 meter ,we get lots of whale pieces in different size and shape. Considering the site we chose used to be a quarry, it's nature to remove and cut stone from the previous land,we decide to insert and cut from the land to create space. In that case,we hope the tourists could experienced the existance of whale, not only a misterious creature that rarely be seen, but also they could touch, they could be in.
1
2
To convey the concept of whale's global migration from south th north, we connect those pieces that belongs to one specie. Just a notion of imaging that whales swim across from the warm water to cold water, the scenery of what they see also changes.
