Rooms can be produced in boxes and installed to the elevation of existing buildings seperately Architects could not only rely on the architectural skills to design, but they also might apply new technology for architecture in order to provide a more convenient way to negotiate people from different generations.

SEEDS STORY

Universal buildings could practically provide human a sheltered and private place, but not shared space. In this project, I regenerated the universal prototype through interweaving boundaries, thus creating a well sheltered shared space where people could be initiative to the place.

In post-human society, dwelling is highly initiative to plants and animals, life is in green cities. There could be not any isolated green area segmentised by high-density concrete human habitat.

Housing combined with public functions

An architect could interweave volumes to create the place and intertwine the boundary between interior and exterior place.

Ur b a n d e si g n

An architect could find ecological elements, such as seeds, that could permeate into concrete cities through natural growth, and the process is sustainable as well as long-lasting.

Sleeping Box

The sleeping box is composed by a sleeping space as well as some storage space in terms of the different hobbies of the young generation. The eight type of boxes are shown on the rigth. The shape of this box is as shown down here.

Living Box

The living box is in a cuboid, providing an active space for both users, the young and the old generation, to socialize, spent time or enjoy same activities. Some of the boxes can be flecible and the space can be extented.

There are generally two kinds of assembly boxes, sleeping box and living box. The sleeping box is basic in function, including a bed and some storage. The living box is for fulfilling extra demands such as working or playing space. They are designed in eight different themes or types in terms of the hobbies of the young people. The young is able to select one type from the eight boxes and decide whether they need living box.

CONTAINERS How does a cube contain events?

Via Manfredo Fanti, Milan, Italy

12m×12m In a corner of a cross on this street, the site is an empty square land neighboured by apartment buildings.

3m×3m×16 The site can be Separated equally into 16 sub-squares.

Each sub-square is for an events container.

10

When the lady and her cats live in a space, the relation between them would show three states: separation, encounter and indifference. All of them are likely to exist in an events container at the same time. Separation Although traditional furniture for the lady or cats put together, it separates activities and thus dismisses their communication. If the separation state is destructed, it would be more possible for them to encounter. Destruction and Abstraction In order to abstracting the main elements, traditional furniture is destructed and then becomes potential element for encountering. Encounter The abstract potential elements are recomposed according to 3 principles: Firstly, it should fulfill the previous function the traditional furniture provides, and the remained furniture, like toilets, should be included in the recomposition. Secondly, each piece of recomposed structures is able to serve both the lady and her cats. Thirdly, the openings are connected to recomposed structures.

Indifference The events containers are the enclosed structures that does not lead to any activity.

Collect all the separation and encounter elements and insert them to indifferent containers. Finally, the transformation is accomplished and encountering possibility between the lady and her cats is increased.

The depressed, close, dark urban space is enclosed by three surfaces in section, the elevations of buildings and the ground.

Urban Space

DEPRESSED o

The black marks the city space, while the white stands for solid buildings.

The buildings here are composed by repeated units, a box closed by vertical walls and horizontal floors.

The continuity between the units and the city is cut by the vertical transport space.

Universal buildings, what I refer to, could be built over ten floors, thus show the urban density.

Changsh

This line marks the surfaces of the city, before and after I introduce an inclined plane.

18

Inclined plane empha

or DELIGHTED

In order to enlighten and activate urban space, the surfaces could be broken.

By broken boundaries, the urban space and the solid buildings could be connected more initiatively, then allow an intertwined relationship.

The inclined planes are the kind of surface that could demolish vertical and horizontal limitations.

Continuous inclined planes could achieve the continuity between buildings and city. The transport space and functional space are combined.

The inclined planes could also continuously grow as high as the existing buildings and reflect the urban density.

asizes sense of place.

19

Existing people's flow is limited and segmentised.

The existing flow could be regenerated to a flexible and accessible system.

A triangle and a square are introduced to regenerate the system. The triangle area is dropped, while the square area is suspended.

People could ramble continuously in the two shapes and explore the urbanscape.

CONFLICT

Between industrial and residential typology in Loreto, Milan

Industrial Typology The main character of industrial typology is rectangle plan and buildings are low in height. The building could be composed by a single volume, or double volumes, or even more complex composite.

Residential Typology The main character of residential typology is linear plan. The buildings are high and composed by single volumes or double volumes.

Every axis is from a certain typology in the context, so it is reasonable to link the hostel and affordable housing to the two residential axes respectively, and connect them through a ring. The creative market is in relation with industrial axis which is more public. Finally, I composed the basement of the 4 elements through integrating their different axes geometrically. INTEGRATION The three different axes are integrated through composing the basement of the four volumes (affordable housing, hostel, the ring and creative market). The height and perimeter of each volume is carefully connected to surrounding buildings and ruled by one of the axes in geometry. In the unique basement, the observers' flow is continuous not only among volumes, but also from inside to outside. However, the volumes are distinguished on the upper part. The role of the ring is highlighted by using U-glass, because it locates in the core of the geometrical chaos.

DISTINGUISHED ATMOSPHERE The housing and the public space are distinguished not only in the geometry of space, but also in the atmosphere they present. The housing provides shelter and privacy to dwellers, while the public space in the integrated basement play a key role to connecting people. The place serves as a platform for its inhabitants and at the same time they are sheltered by the interweaved boundary.

DEVELOPMENT OF SEEDS SYSTEM IN THREE STEPS Step 1 Starting the process, local dwellers should build seeds bridge, seeds habitat, animals habitat, water and waste processing system, thus preparing seeds settlement. Also, shops, restaurants and tourists center construction could promote the tourism development.
