NAME: SUN, YU-CHING NATIONALITY: TAIWAN COARSE: BA GRAPHIC DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATION When I was a child I loved to draw on the wall and I always imagined they will become true if I drew them. In fact, I only got punishment from my mom. Then my parents let me learn fine art in a workshop. After that, I went to art school to learn visual communication but in university, I changed my major to digital design for three years while learning digital design. This didn't feel right and I didn't enjoy it.
PAST
Now I am happy to UCA continue my degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication as I can use different language, chat with others and also present naturally. Although I look forward to new things but leaving the comfort zone is quite difficult because I need to learn plenty of things which I did not have to do in my hometown. In contrast, I will be more independent than before.

In the future, the most important thing is focusing on my course and graduate while I can perhaps build up my social network at the same time. I want to do the job which I love because in Taiwan young people are forced to do the job they perhaps do not find interesting.

Sun, Yu-Ching
During my undergraduate period, I majored in Graphic Design in Dalian Polytechnic University & University of Southampton joint campus in Dalian, China. I was awarded a scholarship each year. In terms of my major, I think I am not a talented student, I just pay all my attention when I begin to create my work. I gather information as much as possible. I am curious about the things I don't know, I have never tried. I have tried my best to contact more interesting, innovative people and things. So, that has helped me to improve my design.
PAST
In terms of this course, I think that I have experienced different things and gained useful knowledge. Especially, we have been organized to have a trip to London. I think it is benefit to me. We became explorers to observe and explore this city. We visited the Migrant Museum, East London, the Crystal, the Olympic Stadium. It is really helped me to broaden my mind. For example, when I visited the Crystal, one thought just came up - I think scientists are heroes. I worried about the future, because of the environment, the energy, are not have the good prospect. But, scientists are trying to address these problems. They are protecting the earth and rescuing the people. I really admire them.

As for my MA course and my design career, I hope I can always be on my own. I can listen to my voice. I hope I can find my way to express my thought and ideas. I expect that I can work hard like before. I hope I can generate different ideas that I have never tried before. I hope I can always observe the surroundings around me so as to capture that moment. The composition of the whole page is the most essential aspect that I prefer to show. I would like to make the lines, colours, shapes, the light and the shadow to be my main elements of my work. Illustrating and drawing are my common approaches to show my ideas to the viewers. I would like to visualise my ideas by using pigments. The colours can inspire me when I create my work.
