“HEADBAND By Cesar Soriano A.K.A The Pot Ninja

Hello readers! Today's strain review will be my first strain review for this magazine! This months strain review will be on "Headband" from NorthEastGenetics.com, grown by BC Budz. During my college years, I had such a hard time covering up the smell of this one! This strain is a cross between Sour Diesel, O.G Kush, and Master Kush. It has such a dank smell that if your not trying to cover up the fresh or burnt scent of this nug, it's gunna be a dead giveaway your holding some good weed! Every time I had this strain, it's always has that very nice mix of a head/body high. The phenotype usually determines if you will get more of a cerebral high , or a mellow buzz. This cut looked like it was the Sour Diesel dominant phenotype. This strain gained this specific name, because when you smoke this strain, you feel like your dome is being pressurized as if you we're wearing a headband! Some people will just call it "Sour Kush" just because its a cross between Sour Diesel, and a Kush. Well whatever you decide to call it, just be sure you call it the right name, because there's not that many strains that can pack a punch the way this Headband does! Next time your at a dispensary, or your friends house, ask for Headband. When you come across this strain, you will always have a place in your heart and lungs for this potent bud! These buds have such a sweet, citrusy, dank, diesel, chemical pine smell, with a very light, bright green color. Just off of visual appeal, I would say this is about a 70/30 sativa dominant plant. it has its indica characteristics, but the sativa dominance takes over. Very nice bud-to-leaf ratio also. These nugs weren't as dense as the other Headbands I've tried, but that doesn't mean that the buds were The medicinal effect on this strain is phenomenal. This Headband I just consumed gave me the perfect high I was expecting. A nice, energetic, heavenly, strong cerebral high, with a sedative, lazy, narcotic body high. This bud keeps you alert, accelerates your heart, This is due to the sativa dominance in this strain. At higher doses, this strain can cause you to space out, and forget things. It gives a burst of energy and you might feel a little talkative and start laughing at the most random things. Towards the end of the high, you will feel most of the "sativa crash" this is where most of the narcotic effects come in. This strain is good for energy, mood, and appetite during the 1st half of the high, then the 2nd half of the high would be good for muscle-relaxation, insomnia, or anti-anxiety. This was a personal favorite strain of mine in the start of my stoner years. It's such a great strain all across the board from the end-users perspective. Smell, taste, potency, density, bag appeal, and resin production all are at the top of the charts. A proper flush, dry, and cure to this strain all are key factors to keep in mind of you want to get the best medicine possible. If you love your plants and really care for them, it really shows. You can't expect to get great medicine from a product you put no time and effort, or love into. Some people can tell when certain strains are mass-produced just to maximize on profits, and grown for cosmetic appeal, or if they are grown in small scale location, where the grower can tend to each and every plants needs to male sure every plant can grow to its fullest potential. If you mess up on any of these important procedures, your be sure to end up with an inferior product. If any of you readers ever get a chance to grow your own medicine, you should consider adding Headband to your garden. It's close to the perfect "Anytime High" like Blue Dream in my opinion. Though most growers would be turned off by the sheer size and smell of this plant, once you get all those factors under control, you will be sure to enjoy some of the best bud this world could offer us!

Reaching a crossroads is a process I like to call ‘’evolution.’’ When you’re in a routine, when you have a habitual morning structure, you’re on a high of your own. But, a different high exists once you’ve reached a crossroads, which allows you to let yourself see other options that you may want to incorporate into your day. This high, powerful, consuming quench for knowledge is like no other. To fuel your ambition, I’ll evaluate a cup of Joe, cannabis strains, fruits and a drink called bhang. As a resource of options and as an educator, I’ll enlighten you on the jack of all trades. Mary Jane, marijuana or cannabis, doesn’t only produce a cerebral high. Consider an energetic, physical and, yes, healthy high, like many of the vegetables in Mother Nature’s garden. It’s your superhero or super drink, before you go out and save the world. Everyone drinks coffee: teenagers, adults, stress-free people, people who are stressed out. Many successful, powerful and busy people drink coffee, people who have the weight of the world on their shoulders. It makes sense that they’re attracted to it: a 10 year study of 86,000 female nurses showed a reduced risk of suicide in coffee drinkers. It must help to stay strong. On the bright side of the sunrise, coffee provides the fluid you need for hydration as well as the carbohydrates, sugar and sodium that the body needs to sustain itself. It gives you strength and it can work as a protectant. Two cups of coffee can cut post-workout muscle pain by up to 48%. Also, a major reason why people drink coffee is because it is an appetite suppressant. On the dark side, in comparison to cannabis foods/drinks/inhalation, the scale tips in favor of cannabis. According to Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., with the Mayo Clinic in Michigan, there isn’t enough evidence of caffeine being a long-term appetite suppressant. In addition, water loss due to caffeine is short-term, she stated. The side effects of coffee vary, they include: headaches, sleeplessness, dizziness, stained teeth, and bad breath. Nasty effects, right? It doesn’t take much for coffee to become distasteful –just a little too cold, too bitter. Re-evaluate Joe because things can rapidly go wrong so, meet Jane.

Cannabis on the other hand can be an appetite suppressant just as much as it can increase the appetite, contradicting the sweeping generalization that cannabis only induces the munchies, laziness and becoming overweight. Aspirin reduces headaches, but taking too many will kill you. Same goes for rubbing alcohol. Applying rubbing alcohol to a wound will disinfect it, but drinking alcohol will kill you. These are everyday treatments we use; the side effects of cannabis aren’t death, so why turn a blind eye to it? Turn a third eye to it! THC in cannabis is associated with the increase of appetite. The term is tossed around often and has become well known. But did you know that you can break down THC to get CBD? CBD is a special type of psychoactive cannabinoid. It can be found in different strains of cannabis, such as Harlequin, Purple Diesel, and Khola, which has a CBD content of 2.5%! It is generated by heating THC and can increase naturally when cannabis is stored. The longer it is stored away, the higher percentage of CBD produced. The compound gives medicinal benefits without the high, and that is also another reason why it is ideal. A few fun facts on CBD: It can be an alternative to meds which often have opiate-like effects, in turn getting you high. It also is helpful for people who have difficulty eating specifically due to stress or anxiety. Not because of the THC inducing the desire for munchies, but because CBD can get rid of that sick feeling in the chest or stomach, allowing one to eat again once their anxiety subsides. Meet Jack, Jane’s Alter ego. Cannabis is a jack of all trades because it can be paired with fruit, beverages and many dishes. The organic section of any grocery store will have cannabis-derived products such as hemp seeds or hemp oil, which can be mashed together with fruits or dishes like salad. As for beverages, there is this magical drink in India called Bhang. Bhang is made from the leaf and flower of a cannabis plant. It is prepared by grinding the buds and leaves of a cannabis plant into a paste. The paste is mixed with milk, ghee, and spices. Almonds, dry watermelon, poppy seeds, and aniseed are soaked for 1 to 2 hours in water then ground into a fine paste, sort of like a smoothie blend. The drink is said to be intoxicating and is very popular in many parts of Northern India. Cannabis can be used in its most common way for pleasant effects, as well. The inhalation of certain cannabis sativa can give you the energy you’ve been seeking in the morning. Some energetic Sativa are Haze (Notorious) and Thai—Dr. Grinspoon, as well, is a newer but very potent pure sativa, which can be uplifting if used carefully. Joe, Jane and Jack will all help you get on with your day. Joe has its good and its bad. So does Jane and Jack, but, they may have less bad and more promising effects if used properly. Cannabis gives you quite a few alternatives to substitute at the crossroads. Cup of Joe or a toke of Jane, the Jack of all trades?

Working in an LA Dispensary

If you were given the opportunity to stop everything you're doing in New York City to work in a Los Angeles dispensery on such short notice with all expenses included, would you turn down the chance you have been waiting for your entire stoner lifetime for? As passionate as I am about the marijuana movement, this was the opportunity I have been waiting on to jump start my career in the cannabis industry and I wasn't going to let this job offer slip away. I was humbled to have been offered the position to work in a dispensary, and wasn't going to disappoint anyone. In this business, only the smart and strong survive. you have to be ready for the worst case scenario all the time. If you can't handle the fact that the DEA could possibly raid you at any moment and seize everything you're shop has, or an angry vendor comes in and threatens the employees for the money he is owed then this business is not for you. Being born and raised in New York City, dispensaries would be the last thing anyone would think of talking about out here. New Yorkers aren't as open about there cannabis consumption as Californians, but that's because of a major part being that cannabis is regulated by the "Compassionate Use Act" of 1996, which approves cannabis as a safe and effective medicine for many ailments. New York has been pushing for a bill to allow cannabis for legal medicinal use for years. Unfortunately, cannabis laws in New York are "Decrimialized" at best at the moment , so the law dosent even entitle people to have access to dispensaries for their alternative medicine, like California does. Due to this obstacle, New Yorkers resort to the "Black Market" for their cannabis, and put themselves at risk just to get the medicine they should be rightfully entitled to. No one should have to put themselves in danger in other to have access to a product that has never claimed the life of any human being. As I walk into a dispensary for the 1st time, I quickly notice a large selection of top shelf strains. Most of them happen to be by a person I know up in the Bay area. I quickly take a sigh of relief, because I would be uncomfortable working with strains I'm not fully aware of, but in this case, I have a cache of strains that I have sufficient knowledge of. A large handful of the strains were new to me, so I sampled everything so I can give my honest opinion to a patient if they ask about a certain strain, or if they were looking for a

certain ailment to alleviate. My first day working in the dispensary was pretty confusing, but I quickly picked up on how to do most of things a bud tender should be doing. The weight out at the end of the night happened to be the most stressful part of the whole day, but it's usually because people are just trying to get out and go home. The people that I have met in the dispensary have become fond of me. I immediately knew I was going to have fun working here, because I'm surrounded by women all day! They knew my position was temporary when I arrived, so they all made me feel welcome upon my arrival. There were people working there that were under the old owners management, but the new boss decided to keep them since they knew the shop, the patients, and the area. A few more people were flown in from the eastcoast, just like I was to work in the dispensary after they received there doctors recommendation. I got my doctors recommendation that same day. After I received my California stare Medical Cannabis card, I was one of the happiest cannabis consumers this world has ever seen! I was completely legal to walk into dispensaries around California, and have access to some of the best raw medicine in the world! Later on that week, all dispensaries in the area shut down for several hours, due to a good neighbor calling and tipping us off on the DEA raiding a shop down the road. People in this industry take no chances, so when something like that is said, you take that stuff seriously. No one jokes around about things like that. Apparently. The DEA stops doing raids after a certain time, so once there done with there work, we can resume ours. That moment shook everyone up for a while. As soon as we had got word of the DEA raiding, we locked up the shop, took all the weed off the shelves, packed everything in the car, and left. We weren't going to take any chances. Better safe then sorry any day. It's not worth it to keep the shop open, to make only a few hundred dollars more and risk getting raided, only to wind up in tens of hundreds of dollars debt after the DEA raids you for your state-legal medicine. What makes our dispensary different from others is the number of exclusive products we carry, aside from the large square footage, selection of strains, and medicated edibles. As soon as you walk into our doors, you are already treated like V.I.P. And if you already are a Celebrity V.I.P, you get the 5 star treatment here. We have a person that makes her edibles specifically for our collective. Patients love her products so much that if we have any other edibles that she didn't cook, they will refuse any other name brand. Even celebrities! I've had a few of them myself, and I can see why her edibles has patients coming back. People are very picky out here when they are looking for a specific way to medicate. Whether it's flowers, concentrate, or medibles, there is something for everyone here.

Several days after arriving, more people are being flown out from the east coast to get their medical cannabis evaluation, and to help out in the shop. Theres this one great guy from New England that I learned a lot from. He's a grower, and he has been pumping out some good medicine for a while, so I decided to pick his brain, and see what. I can learn from him. He taught me a few things that are useful when it comes to cultivating medicine. Me just listening to all this talk about cannabis makes me want to grow! We established a good friendship right from the start and I was ecstatic to hear him ask me if I was willing to help him in his grow op one day. An offer like this was not going to get away from me, even though I have a lot on my plate at the moment. I was working in LA, but getting ready to move to Denver. I was not going to decline any offers, especially working in the northeast because they all offer me something I can learn from. In time, I was going to help, but it's just not the best time To the moment. Word of mouth spreads quick, and I have heard a lot of people talking about this hash bar that is literally across the street from the dispensary I was located at. Just like any other cannabis-related operation, you need a California state-issued cannabis card to enter. I decided to check it out. Whenever I was off, I would spend most of my time either hanging out in the back room of my dispensary, or at the hash bar. It's literally a BAR, but instead of alcohol being served behind the bar, you have a selection of bongs, pipes, vaporizers and oilrigs just for about any kind of cannabis consumer. You sit down, and select the piece or device you choose to medicate. They also have a section that you can find cannabis instead of hash. They even have a Playstation 3 which people can access. It's such a welcoming place, it's easy to lose track of time in here. Everyone knows my name, and they know what I like everyone I come. I have tried just about everything they have to offer on. My favorite part of the day would be when vendors come by and show there products. This is where I get to meet growers and ask lots of questions and learn more about their products. Since I've been here at the dispensary, I've seen a handful of vendors, and a truckload of medicine! I have seen lots of strains pass by, and when vendor comes in, one of the 1st questions usually always is "Do you have an O.G"? Some great Purps, Kushes, Diesels, O.G's, Cookies, Cheeses, will come through all the time, but

people just keep asking. For the O.G. Californians are brainwashed into the whole "O.G" phase. For some reason, New York City is the same way with their "Sour Diesel". I respectthe fact that people have a favorite strain, but I don't respect people when they say their favorite strains is "The Best" strain, and have no compelling evidence to prove it besides opinions. Theres thousands of strains and it's hard to believe that the best out there at the moment is an O.G. Yes, O.G is a great smelling, great tasting, and pretty potent strain, but I believe breeders just haven't experimented with every strain yet to determine which is the best. Once the next best strain comes out, it's only going to be a matter of time before someone just crosses it with another O.G, to further water down the gene pool. San Fernando Valley O.G or "SFV OG is great, probably even the best O.G, but not the best strain. I never thought I could have ever learned so much about the cannabis industry in one month. This flight to Los Angeles was exactly what I needed at the perfect time of year. I feel like I have gained the sufficient skills necessary to succeed and thrive in the booming cannabis industry. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world. I'm ready for whatever else the world of cannabis could offer!

Flowers, Please and Thank You! By: Indica Jonez

If you are reading this, then that means, I’ve officially made print and that in itself is just as groovy as this trip I’m about to take you on. Allow me to introduce myself: you can call me Indica Jonez and I am a patient. I’m a writer/comic both during day and night so my apologies in advance if you find yourself giggling at something awesomely funny in this cool read. Most folks think my days consist of being funny, fellating with flowers, writing, fellating with flowers, shopping, fellating with flowers, awesome food experiences, fellating with flowers, hanging around celebrities eating and drinking, fellating with flowers, oh and then a nap and a comedy show or two. So what if 98.97% of that is true (note: I just meet celebs, I don’t eat with them-not everyone’s a chef ya know), there are reasons for my flower fixation. As an “unknown” working in Hollywood, working in the entertainment industry is like working part time in retail. Meaning while both gigs come with some sort of “employee discount/perk”, neither come with health benefits. So what’s a girl to do when she’s stressed, anxious, restless, dealing with an awful case of writer’s block-ahem case and point this current article which was a blank word document on a MacBookPro for three hours-cheers to MidCity for wonderful selection of meds, and doesn’t have enough money to sit on anyone’s couch or table for any sort of examination?? I’ll tell you what she does, she finds flowers, to fix, what has failed to function. True my love for flowers started out in secret. Our love affair was dirty. I treated my flowers like a fling, just something to do. Prohibited but still a renegade, flowers medicated but still I didn’t quite understand. It wasn’t until I moved to LA that I truly began to understand the advantage of being disadvantaged - yeah that’s what I call not having health insurance, better than being poor but still sucks nonetheless. Being flower familiar for over ten plus years, it wasn’t until the last three years that I have truly appreciated the value of flowers beyond social and recreational realms. Granted, flowers don’t cure broken bones, though I do have a theory that there is a flower tree in the Amazon the size of a Redwood, they are an amazing remedy for many things. Compounded in nature, its organic humble beginnings and properties lend itself to be a wonder for holistic health and it’s fairly cost effective. Flowers also yield oil that in some cases worked better on a minor cut than Neosporin. Personally, my preference is always flowers before a pill. With all of these crazy side effects of these man-made pharmaceuticals-you know, that cheesy commercial on TV where there’s a dog in a boat, an old lady cutting flowers, and a man getting married and they are all battling depression and some announcer gives you the name of some crazy sounding medicine like “NOJUMPATALL” and tells you all the glories of this new wonder drug then slaps you at the end of all the happy with the side effects which include new diseases, extra cooties, and death by stupidity if your lucky, I’d rather try the natural alternative of flowers where my side effects are simple and safe and fairly non-existent. So while I struggle for stardom and the security of BlueCross BlueShield, I will appreciate the fact that I have flowers available to me. Flowers provide me with a variety options, as I sometimes require different medications for different ailments. It makes perfect sense. I mean, you don’t put eye drops on a headache right?

Now Colorado is in need of more regulators due to the size of the recreational cannabis industry intense oversight of cannabis and cannabis products. One million legal cannabis transactions were recorded in the state last year. This year’s recreational transactions will surely surpass that number. A good portion of that business is seed sales Now that cannabis is legal recreationally in Colorado, domestic seed companies can have the freedom to breed and sell their products in an open market. No longer do we have to do sketchy overseas transactions to get quality seeds. In an exponentially expanding market Rare Dankness Seed Co. has carved a name for themselves as one the best when it comes to quality and consistency of good seeds. Rare Dankness Seed Co is one of Colorado’s premiere seed companies. The following is an interview with Rare Dankness’s breeder Scott: T.T: When did rare dankness get started? Scott: Rare Dankness started as "Moonshine's Seeds" back in 2001 as a hobby breeder, growing legally under Colorado's Amendment 20 which created the Medical Mj Registry. Moonshine Seeds produced 100+ seed varieties over a 7 yrs period, most of them given away for free. In 2009 I opened StStone Mountain Wellness in Longmont Colorado where we sold our "made in house" Stone Mountain seeds alongside the finest meds in the state. Stone Mountain was closed after Longmont chose to close all dispensaries and I chose to go full time with my love of breeding. Having collected some of the best clone only varieties and the encouragement of family and friends I created Rare Dankness and officially launched the company in August of 2010.

T.T.: How many people work at rare dankness? Scott: I’m the only one doing any of the breeding, I’ve got a few growers keeping strains alive and making beans, a great assistant/marketing/merchandiser , a couple of Reps and an army of testers. T.T.: What is the size of the facility you use? Scott: Our Colorado based RD (For CO only) is big, one of the largest in the US. Its 80,000sqft with about 500K in HPS in Flower and 40K in Veg. I have a small area at the back of the warehouse where I get to work my magic in my 30K room and greenhouse space. 6000 ft of over 15,000sq ft of greenhouse. We have access to unlimited plant numbers for selection and breeding work under the patient count and Manufacture of Infused Products license. We’ve had access to some of the most state of the art facilities since the beginning of the CO Industry. One of the reasons we’ve been able to make leaps and bounds in selection is specifically from this regulated industry. I have a 30K room I just get to play around in for shits and giggles and the better part of 6000sq ft of greenhouse for our strains. You should see the organics I’m running in the indoor room right now. Our Spanish based RD is all outside grown under fully open sun. We aren’t worried about producing the dank we do for patients in the medical aspects, we are specifically breeding and looking for ONLY the strongest , healthiest plants, free from disease and pest and producing the cannabis cup winning strains you all love. We are only after the seed, give away the rest. T.T.: How many strains do you offer? Self bred or others? Scott: We have offered a variety of strains, lots of were “one of a kind creations”, never to be reproduced. Our core line up runs around 30 strains. We’ve had as many as 60+ on the website at one time. Some strains are produced for Colorado only others are only produced for the global market. We have over 250+ females mostly Clone only varieties and a stable of studly males’ we’ve developed over the last decade. T.T.: What strain are you most proud of? Scott: OG Ghost Train Haze #1. That strains was crowned "Strongest strain on Earth" in May of 2012 from an Aero grown entry from a previous cannabis cup which tested at 25.49% thc. No matter the lab test that sativa dominant strain is POTENT. Recently Kyle Kushman tweeted he had grown a 29% lab test OGGTH#1 for Buds n Roses in California. Kyle’s been someone I’ve looked up to for a bunch of years. For him to support what I’m doing is huge. It’s the "Ghost" OG Kush x my F3BX2 Nevil’s Wreck male (Arcata E32 Trainwreck x Nevil's Haze) T.T.: How often do you have to have success/failure with your crops? Scott: In a decade + I’ve never lost a crop. I’m obsessive compulsive when it come to my grows’, you could eat off the floor in nearly all my spots. I’m from a long line of farmers so gardening is in my blood. I love growing All plants. I love growing super/nuclear hot peppers also, a garden every year for veggies etc. I always laugh at people who say they grow but only pull a couple crops a year. A dedicated grower hits at least 5 crops a year, 6 if he’s on point and has room to move plants around for staging. If you become a crazy

HAZE/Sativa lover that gets cut down to three 120 days crops per year. Sooo long to get to flower. Cleanliness is the most important aspect. Always stay clean, keep it clean. T.T.: Do you back cross with the parents? Scott: Yes, I love the BX for reinforcing traits. Outcrosses within the same lines are also pretty interesting. For example crossing a Pre98 bubba with the Katsu Bubba. T.T.: What style of growing do you use the most? Scott: Whatever I’m feeling at the moment. It depends on the spot I’m growing for. I love organics, super soils are my thing. I have been doing that since the beginning. Moonshine Mix was my dirt mix I was known for. But for my personal love of just growing I try all sorts of stuff. I’ve built custom aero setups, Undercurrent DWC setups, I’ve run beds, slabs of RW, flood and drain, flood to waste, drippers, soil less mixes, coco, you name it. For my personal, I run half Hydro, hand fed to waste and normally a few super soil pots. I think to grow Hydro and have it come out better than Organics is my personal favorite way to grow. Really blow peoples minds that hydro can be grown and flushed well. The

The benefits of custom aero is… you can actually obtain aero as opposed to some hybrid, NFT/aero setup. Fully suspended roots with high velocity atomized spray. Larger yields, higher THC production, Frankneweed.. But Aero like Hydro lacks that underlying nuance of flavor you find from soil based grows. Aero weed is like a peanut butter rice cake. Awesome smelling, awesome looking, taste great but then you realize there is no backbone to the flavor, just like a rice cake. T.T.: Types of lights do you use for indoor growing? Scott: Metal Hallide in Veg, High Pressure Sodium in Flower 1000watt. I think CO2 infused Greehouse grown herb is the best though. Full sun spectrum just AMPS up the high . T.T.: Do any of your strains require special conditions? Scott: Satvias’ require more patience and dialed in environment, they also need way more light per sq ft than typical indoor indicas’. More Light = healthier plants. Plants in the Greenhouses never seem to have the nutrient stress issues indoor plants tend to have with improper environment and lack of lumens.

T.T.: What nutrient mixes do you recommend for the indoor grower? Scott: As far as Hydro, you can’t go wrong with Advanced Nutrients (just don’t buy the entire line). For Soil, I recommend people look into super soils, moonshine mix or "Hot Soil". T.T.: Do you have any strains designed to meet the needs of certain illnesses? Scott: The OX is our heavy hitting Indica with trace CBD's. We’ve had tests com back at 17% THC and 6% CBD. I started the OX project while I was going through treatment for Cancer in 2010. T.T.: How do you think the mapping of the cannabis genome will affect cannabis breeding? Scott: Can you say Syngenta or Montasanto?? GMO's are just around the corner as this industry legalizes and regulates. Better enjoy what we have now before its all "Round-Up ready"....

Syngenta and Monatasanto are large chemical companies that have switched to genetically modifying crops. Genetically Modified Organism can have unexpected results. When changing one base pair in the genome you could have a variety of unforeseen consequences. Genetic modification is radically different from natural breeding. In contrast to the statements of biotech advocates, FDA scientists and others affirm that genetic modification is not just an extension of the conventional breeding techniques that have been used by farmers for millennia. Genetic engineering transfers genes across natural species barriers, using imprecise laboratory techniques that bear no resemblance to natural breeding. Furthermore, the technology is based on outdated concepts of how genes and cells work. Rare Dankness is one of the true artisans in cannabis breeding in Colorado. Paying close attention to quality and consistency and providing seeds for many needs. In a market that could change any day. It may not be long before the giant chemical corporations get a hold of our precious plant and pervert its genome. That could forever infect this pure plant and make it something undesirable. Cannabis breeders are vital to the integrity of the plant by using its own mechanism, not foreign ones. Rare Dankness will have entries in the Spannabis cup held on February 15 thru 17. They can also be seen at this years 420 cup in Colorado and can be found online at http://www.raredankness.com/Home.htm

t is no stranger to us the importance of man’s best friend. Dogs have been with us and have been working aside us, giving the friendship and loyalty that we’ve needed for thousands of years. They’ve been there when we were sick or sad, through thick and thin, the good days and the bad. Hell, it has even come down to the unconscious decision that when picking out a dog, we choose one that resembles our own aesthetic features. Or through some form of magic, the dog begins to adopt physical traits of their owners, if that is even possible. Nevertheless, one could pair and owner and his/her dog 9 out of 10 times. I can recall countless incidents where walking down the street there would be a short-faced lady that resembled the pug she was walking, or as my dad and I would like to joke, “the dog was walking her.” Throughout the years dogs have become more than just a friend, they have assured themselves a place at the dinner table, a reserved seat on the couch, and at times, the entire bed at night. It’s probably only a matter of time before dogs will require citizenship. So as the times have progressed headstrong into the future of technology and medicine, it was without question that we would start diagnosing dogs with human ailments. The interesting part here is that human problems such as arthritis, glaucoma, acid reflux disease; restless leg syndrome, hyperactivity, etc. also manage to disrupt the lives of our K-9 counterparts. We have begun to prescribe our furry little friends with pills such as glucosamine, chewable aspirin, anti-inflammatory pills, and even pills for indigestion. The question I want to bring up here is: what about medicinal marijuana? As patients we all understand the qualities of medicinal marijuana and its palliating abilities, so what would stop us from using it to treat our pets? Of course the issue would be: well, the owners could take their dog’s medicine. Never mind that, as of right now, this article is simply food for thought. We understand that mammals all have cannabinoid receptors in their brains making it possible for them to receive those same positive effects as it does in humans. The segment that I would like to draw attention to is the idea of treating arthritis in dogs. My dog Jake has been with us for many years now and he suffers from severe arthritis. As a pitbull, Jake also has fallen to hereditary hip issues where his hind legs can no longer move because of pain. Of course, as the years went by my dear friend’s pain worsened. One day during a small trip to New Hampshire, Jake’s arthritis took a turn for the worse. He couldn’t move. The only thing he could do was muster a small whimper.

My mother, father, and I thought that this might be the last time Jake would ever be with us. As a patient himself, my father wondered if marijuana edibles could help lessen some of the pain or at least allow Jake to relax. A few hours had passed and Jake had finally fallen asleep. Morning broke with a familiar sound that made my father think that he was still dreaming. Jake’s collar was jingling and heavy panting with sneezing meant that he needed to go outside. I received a phone call from my father at 8am telling me that Jake could walk again. Sure as hell, when I made it to their hotel room, Jake was prancing about with his puppy-like vigor of years past. Either it was the cookie that did it or a small miracle had happened. A few months later Jake had gone through another one of his arthritis episodes; the procedure was the same. We gave Jake a half of a cookie before he went to bed. The next morning Jake was full of energy and seemingly without ailment. Conclusively, marijuana had saved my dog. At age 13, Jake is far from a puppy and everyday his arthritis strengthens. It has become routine to give Jake a small amount of marijuana edibles to help relieve his grief. On a lighter note and one that makes our family laugh is Jake now expects his medicine before he goes to sleep at night. While downstairs he sits in front of the refrigerator, barks twice, and waits patiently to receive his cookie. After eating Jake promptly walks upstairs and lays down on his bed. The next morning it appears that Jake awakes refreshed and ready to tackle the day; barking at squirrels, other dogs, and of course, the mailman. The interesting thing is this: we have watched how differently Jake takes on the day without his medicine. Instead of being lively, Jake is usually lethargic, his eyes appear heavy with pain, as a matter of fact, he usually eats less as well. Research tells us that not only does marijuana aid in relaxation and sleep, according to several studies, marijuana has been proven to relieve swelling due to cannabidiol. We as patients understand the beneficial properties of marijuana and the whole myriad of side effects that do not exist, contrary to our over-the-counter “cures. So my question to you the reader is this: why not include your beloved pet on the patient list? It could without a doubt save your friend from pain and perhaps give them the longevity of a healthy lifestyle that we would all love to see.

Re Gof Che I enjoyed watching Should Grandma Smoke Pot. It is well produced and directed. I've been in several videos and know all the work and scripting that goes into making a quality piece. Robert Platshorn hosts Should Grandma Smoke Pot. He provides essential information not just for seniors but for the rest of us as well.He recounts the conspiracy that led to the prohibition of marijuana, using clips from vintage films to make his point that banning the use of a harmless, non addictive plant was a way to obtain power and profit. He documents the propaganda the government used to convince Americans that marijuana use would make them crazy, or worse, turn them into psychotic killers. Platshorn puts on a show called the Silver Tour. Advocates and doctors give presentations at senior centers, not only to dispel myths surrounding marijuana use, but to inform seniors that using marijuana can provide relief from any

number of ailments. One elderly gentleman said he would use it but doesn't know how to get it. An elderly woman said she had trouble sleeping and would often go days without rest. Since she's been using marijuana, her sleeping disorders have subsided. By the time most people reach their mid seventies, theres a good chance that they can be suffering from as many as four different diseases.. Finding relief from these afflictions is why so many seniors are now interested in marijuana as an alternative or an addition to the medicine they're currently using. Platshorn points out that marijuana is the oldest medicine we have and has been used by millions throughout history. One doctor says that people who used marijuana during the 1960's are less susceptible to Alzheimer's disease. A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association provides proof that marijuana use has no negative effect on pulmonary disease. He reminds us that in states that prohibit medical marijuana use, treating debilitating conditions with it may provide relief but can also put you in jail. Should Grandma Smoke Pot is interrupted several times by Platshorn who asks viewers to contribute money to the Silver Tour so that Should Grandma Smoke Pot can be widely distributed. Contributions will also allow the Silver Tour to continue in it's efforts to make more seniors aware of the benefits of using medical marijuana. Should Grandma Smoke Pot ought to be seen not only by seniors, but by families as well. It effectively dispels the lies regarding the use of marijuana while providing testimony to the truth.
