SERVICE SPOTLIGHT Charlotte Cheshire Huntington High School Division 3

The Membership Recruitment & Retention webinar featured keynote speaker Tom Krieglstein, as he broke down and explained how to engage members and keep them involved in Key Club. Krieglstein shared the unique “Dancefloor Theory” which explains that if members feel more of a social connection, they will not only be more involved, but they will continue to be involved. Additionally, he shared that there are different levels of involvement. Only a small amount of members can be considered “participants,” the people who make the experience happen, while the majority of members are “spectators,” who watch the experience go by. In order to properly engage the majority of members, you have to get their attention by using a pattern interrupt. This can be as simple as doing something unexpected, like playing music as they join or having them wave their hands at the camera. These tips are extremely helpful during this time because all of our meetings will be online, so it’s even more important to properly engage our members. Not only was the webinar informative, but it was also very enjoyable! We were able to see, firsthand, how these practices work, and how much more engaging the meetings can be.
