KILLED IN JFK COVER-UP! REVEALED: Mysterious
A
SHOCKING string of suspicious deaths after the tragic assassination of John F. Kennedy has led investigators to a frightening conclusion – the young President’s murder was a vast conspiracy and at least 76 Americans were killed to cover up the truth! Top experts are stunned by the unnatural deaths of material witnesses who died by homicide, suicide, “accident” and undetermined causes. Experts believe that the Mafia, CIA, Secret Service and even thenVice President Lyndon Johnson were involved in the assassination. Many of those slain in the cover-up were about to testify before one of the four major investigations into JFK’s death, the Warren Commission in 1964, the Church

Committee in 1975-76, Orleans Parish, La., District Attorney Jim Garrison’s probe that ran from 1966 to 1969, and the two-year House Select Committee on Assassinations’ 1976 inquiry. “Elements of the government are continuing to foster a cover-up,” Roger Stone, author of The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ, told GLOBE in a chilling interview. “Every time the truth is about to come out in public, particularly in a government proceeding, witnesses have to be disposed of… because dead men and women tell no tales.” The goal has been to eliminate witnesses with any information that could challenge the official line – that Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole gunman. In the desperate attempt to bury the

deaths that followed KENNEDY ASSASSINATION truth, even the rich and powerful have been targeted. Famed celebrity columnist Dorothy Kilgallen was found dead in her bed on Nov. 8, 1965, after getting an exclusive interview with Oswald’s killer, Jack Ruby, and boasting to friends she was “about to blow the JFK case sky high.” “Kilgallen was murdered,” Stone told GLOBE. “Her killers had shoved barbiturates and liquor down her throat.”
Another murder In another move to silence the press, Karyn Kupcinet, the daughter of legendary Chicago newspaperman Irv Kupcinet, was murdered in her apartment just six days after Kennedy was assassinated. Insiders say she allegedly called a police
operator 20 minutes before JFK’s death, warning that the President was going to be murdered. Her father had supposedly tipped her off, and she was reportedly killed to warn him to keep his mouth shut, which he did. Oswald buddy David Ferrie also knew too much and was silenced for good on Feb. 22, 1967, from a blow to the neck. Ferrie, a pilot with CIA links, was alleged to have flown JFK’s killers out of Dallas and had been questioned by Garrison. Garrison also intended to interview Ferrie’s buddy Eladio Del Valle, believing he was involved in the Kennedy plot. But Del Valle was murdered in 1967, shot in the heart and butchered with an ax. JFK lover and socialite Mary Pinchot Meyer – convinced a conspiracy was involved – suffered a similarly violent end when she
was gunned down execution-style on Oct. 12, 1964, while walking along a canal in the Washington, D.C., area. “She was murdered by the CIA,” declared author Peter Janney, who wrote the book Mary’s Mosaic about her. Janney says his father, Wistar Janney, a senior CIA official was “part of the conspiracy to kill Mary,” who was once wed to a top official at the spy agency. He added, “The killing of JFK was a coup d’etat at the highest levels of our government.” Incredibly, even Mob kingpins who knew too much became victims of the cover-up. Chicago godfather Sam Giancana, who shared his mistress Judith Campbell Exner with JFK, was shot in his home on June 19, 1975. And Mobster John Roselli was Continued on page 6 December 9, 2013 / GLOBE 5
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 5 scheduled to testify before the Church Committee in 1976 but wound up stuffed in an oil drum off the coast of Miami, strangled and shot with his legs cut off. Several of the mysterious deaths swirled around nightclub operator Jack Ruby, who gunned down JFK’s accused assassin on live TV. The day after JFK was killed, Mobster Jack Zangretti allegedly told a friend that Ruby would kill Oswald. Two weeks later, Zangretti was found floating in an Oklahoma lake with two bullets in his chest.
Hit-and-run ‘accident’ One of Ruby’s strippers, Rose Cheramie, dropped a bombshell by revealing she had seen Oswald with Ruby several times. In 1965, she was killed in a hitand-run “accident.” Dallas journalist Jim Koethe and Long Beach Press Telegram reporter Bill Hunter searched Ruby’s apartment. Hunter was shot to death on April 23, 1964, by a policeman who claimed his gun had gone off accidentally. Koethe was killed by a karate blow to the neck by an unknown assailant in his Dallas home the following September. As for Ruby himself, he suffered a seemingly natural death from cancer in 1967. But Stone told GLOBE, “I believe he died from an injection. He got a cold, a doctor gave him an injection, and shortly thereafter, he had a fast-growing case of cancer.” Meanwhile, Dallas police officer Roger D. Craig told the
Warren Commission that there were at least two gunmen who opened fire on Kennedy. He testified that he found a German Mauser rifle hidden on the sixth floor of the Book Depository Building, not the Italian-made Carcano the Warren Commission claimed Oswald used to kill JFK. Craig was shot twice and managed to survive, but he later fell victim in 1975 to gunshot wounds said to be selfinflicted. “Craig wouldn’t recant about the rifle – and he ended up dead,” Stone told GLOBE. With terrifying regularity, others wanted for questioning fell like flies for years after the assassination – many from socalled suicides. Garrison wanted to interview former CIA man Gary Underhill. But in May 1964, Underhill, who was right-handed, reportedly shot himself to death in the left side of his head using his left hand. In yet another questionable suicide, Navy Lt. William Pitzer – who possessed film and photos of the controversial Kennedy autopsy – perished from a gunshot to the right side of his head, even though he, too, was left-handed. Russian-born George de Mohrenschildt apparently paid the price for being a friend of Oswald and his wife Marina. He believed Oswald was a scapegoat for Kennedy’s real killers, but before he could testify before House investigators, he died in 1977 from a gunshot blast that was officially ruled a suicide. And before he could talk to

the House Committee, former U.S. Ambassador to Brazil William Pawley, who had connections to organized crime figures, died in 1977 – reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Suspicious airplane accidents also claimed victims. In 1964, a New Mexico plane crash took the life of Hugh Ward, a private investigator working with former FBI agent Guy Bannister on Lee Harvey Oswald’s shadowy background. Bannister, 63, also died that year, supposedly from a heart attack. U.S. Rep. Hale Boggs Sr., a member of the Warren Commission, publicly dissented from the panel’s single bullet theory – and in October 1972, a small airplane carrying him between Anchorage and Juneau, Alaska, disappeared and has never been found. Meanwhile, six top FBI officials suspiciously died just before they were slated to testify before the House Committee, including the agency’s No. 3 man William Sullivan, who was slain in a so-called “hunting accident” in 1977. In perhaps the most bizarre death, right-wing Miami extremist J.A. Milteer, who is said to have predicted JFK’s murder and the capture of a “scapegoat” two weeks before the assassination, died in a heater explosion in 1974. The frightening death list goes on and mathematician Richard Charnin says it’s no coincidence. He computed the odds of so many suspicious deaths being connected to the JFK assassination and says, “The database proves beyond any doubt that it is a conspiracy. The odds are overwhelming – in the trillions and trillions and trillions to one that this could happen. “No way in hell was Kennedy’s death not the result of a conspiracy.” – JOHN BLOSSER newstips@globefl.com
PAT SAJAK’S
SEX DEAL WITH VANNA WHEEL OF FORTUNE host Pat Sajak admits he’s often asked if there’s any hanky panky going on between him and gorgeous letter turner Vanna White, and the answer these days is a resounding NO! But that’s not how it always was. In 2001, he confessed to plunging into a sizzling romance with Vanna when she first joined the show. “There was a physical attraction,” he confessed. “We’d go out to dinner or a weekend in the Poconos,” a Pennsylvania resort area catering to honeymooners. Sajak says he and his sidekick soon made a deal to end the romance, deciding it might hurt their working relationship. Ever since they’ve been strictly good friends, he insists. “We figured out early on, somehow, that it wasn’t going to work out,” he confides in a recent interview. “I’m glad it worked out that way. Besides, we’ve gone through various boyfriends and girlfriends and marriages on each side. That’s kind of kept us on the straight and narrow.” Sajak divorced Sherrill, his wife of 10 years, in 1987. He romanced news reporter Lonnie Lardner before he wed former model Lesly Brown in 1989. He and Lesly have two children, Pat Jr., 23, and 18-year-old Maggie. Meanwhile, Vanna’s had her share of ups and downs. The mother of two, 56, has been linked to a number of actors, including
Revealed! Sylvester Stallone, and was married to restaurateur George Santo Pietro for 12 years before she filed for divorce in 2002. But the quiz show pair have managed to keep a hands-off relationship since they made their deal to cool their jets. Sajak continues, “I think it would be very hard to work with someone for as long as we worked together and really have a romantic relationship. I think you’re asking for trouble. “But it’s been perfect for me, and I’ve talked to her about it, and I think for her, too. “We’re very Pat and his close. We care squeeze Vanna very much about White have been each other and working together worry about each for more than other’s lives. We 30 years want to make sure everything’s going OK and we’ll cry on each other’s shoulder if we need to. “But that’s it. And we can do that because we’re friends, as corny as that sounds. That’s, in fact, what we are.” In the same interview, boyishlooking Sajak, 67, also addresses his ever-youthful appearance. “You get to a point where people start suggesting that you’re enhancing something,” says Sajak, insisting that it couldn’t be further from the truth. “I’ve always tended to look a little younger than I am.”

GENE WILDER, 80, IS BITTER RECLUSE! FRAIL funnyman Gene Wilder has shunned Hollywood, preferring to spend his final days holed up in his country mansion in Bedford, N.Y. The 80-year-old’s wife Karen admits the Young Frankenstein star often doesn’t leave their home for months on end. “I liked Los Angeles and Hollywood for a while, but after 10 years I came back here to Bedford and thought, ‘I never want to go back,’ ” Wilder reveals. “I love it here. It’s quiet and peaceful. “I mostly spend my time writing books and playing tennis when I can, but I fell down from the stairs because of the dogs. I was putting them to bed and fell over them. I hope to be back on the court in a few days.”
Wife Karen (left) says there have been times when Wilder won’t leave their New York home for months
‘I don’t care’ The bitter actor has very little good to say about his former stomping grounds, where he very successfully collaborated with Mel Brooks in some of the director’s most beloved movies, like Blazing Saddles and The Producers. “I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve been offered that I’d want to do,” Wilder says. “I write books. I’m asked to do a lot, but I don’t care for any of them. My agent gets no money from me, poor guy.” Wilder – who published an autobiography in 2005 and has been writing novels, short stories and screenplays ever

since – believes the standards of movies today are “terrible.” “I never had a budget of more than $5 million for my movies. Then it was $40 million, now it’s hundreds of millions. For what?” And he doesn’t have much praise for some of the current crop of leading men, either. “I love Leonardo DiCaprio but he’s been miscast in all his films since What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” he says of the Titanic hero. Wilder adds that DiCaprio’s 2001 flick, Catch Me If You Can was “terrible, he wasn’t any good.” “But he brought in the money, so they kept giving him more parts. What he did was not luck with Gilbert Grape. He proved he’s a good actor.” Wilder conceded that Brad Pitt “is a good actor, but he wouldn’t do the stuff I did, the comedies. He wouldn’t be good at it either.” And he hated the Johnny Depp remake of his 1971 classic, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, blasting, “I think it’s an insult. I don’t see the point of doing it all over again.” – TONY TAAFE newstips@globefl.com

CATTY KATIE HOLMES doesn’t like to share! TOM CRUISE’s ex is livid because GINNIFER GOODWIN stole her thunder playing JACKIE KENNEDY in the new National Geographic TV movie Killing Kennedy – and once replaced her in the heart of Jackie Kennedy hunky actor CHRIS KLEIN, too! “Katie’s been trash-talking Ginnifer to anyone who’ll listen,” says an insider. “She’s convinced Ginnifer accepted the Kennedy role to be spiteful because Katie bombed as Jackie in her own 2011 mini-series, The Kennedys. Katie’s embarrassed her movie got such terrible reviews and hoped Ginnifer’s project flopped, too.” The bad blood began when Ginnifer, who is now pregnant and engaged to Once Upon a Time costar JOSH DALLAS, started dating Klein after he split from Holmes. Even though she went on to wed Cruise, the insider says Katie still holds a grudge. The actresses have avoided each other at all costs, but now Ginnifer’s Kennedy success is rubbing fresh salt in the wound.

CHARACTER ACTOR Talk about suffering for your art! JAKE GYLLENHAAL not only dropped 20 pounds to play a crime reporter in the upcoming indie film Nightcrawler, he also landed in the emergency room while shooting a really intense scene. “His character was talking into a mirror and he got so emotional, he banged his fists against the glass and shattered it,” reveals an insider. “Jake cut himself badly and blood was gushing everywhere. He was rushed to the hospital to get stitched up, but returned to the set later that day.” Whatta trooper! JAW BREAKER Meanwhile, ZAC EFRON had his jaw wired shut after he broke it during a fall. The High School Musical hottie, who was in rehab earlier this year for cocaine
addiction, reportedly suffered the injury after he slipped on a puddle. But that didn’t stop him from showing up at his Venice, Calif., gym, just four days later. According to a spy, “Zac was concentrating on hitting the weights hard. He seemed really pensive and kept looking around to see who was watching him.” NOW HAIR THIS The Today show’s MATT LAUER, AL ROKER, WILLIE GEIST and CARSON DALY are all letting their facial hair grow out to raise awareness about men’s health issues. But their co-star KATHIE LEE GIFFORD is happy the women on the program weren’t asked to stop shaving and plucking, too. “That to me would be hell on Earth,” she quips. “If I had to go to prison and they wouldn’t let me have tweezers, I would die.”

ANXIETY MAKES LIFE PURE HELL! RETURNING to the big screen as Katniss in Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second in the four-movie series, Jennifer Lawrence is smoking hot having won the Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for Silver Linings Playbook. The Kentucky-born 23-year-old beauty is thrilled with the success Hunger Games has brought – but not too keen on the spotlight thrust upon her two-year romance with British actor Nicholas Hoult. The couple began dating after they met on the set of X-Men: First Class in 2011. After a brief time apart, they reunited this past summer while filming X-Men: Days of Future Past. In this interview with a freelance journalist, Lawrence talks about rebellion, role models, anxiety and where in the world is her Oscar?
Jennifer leads co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson in a scene from Catching Fire
THE
BIG
Q: You’re No. 2 on the Highest Paid Actress list behind Angelina Jolie. What does that mean for you? A: It means I’m rich, obviously. But it hasn’t changed the way I spend. It helps with anxiety because there’s a big overhead and a lot of things to pay for.
rebellion. Do you have a rebellious streak? A: I have never been rebellious, because I have intense anxiety when it comes to getting in trouble. It’s always been my biggest fear.
Q: How do you handle such wealth? A: It’s a matter of having respect for money. My parents work very hard for their money and manage it very well and my dad still helps me to manage it. I still go over my credit card bill every month.
Q: Are you adventurous then? A: I am adventurous, but I am still very cautious. I am not the kind of person that thinks, “Oh none of that will happen to me.” I am the person who thinks everything will happen to me!

INTERVIEW JENNIFER LAWRENCE
Q: How do you feel about being a role model to young girls? A: It is a responsibility. In the first Hunger Games, we realized we had control over Katniss and her image so why not make her
strong, healthy and fit? I was very adamant about that. Q: Why? A: I think the industry places unrealistic expectations on how people should look. And I didn’t want to be part of that. I remember what it felt like to be 14 years old, and look at a Victoria’s Secret model and be like, “I will never look like that.” I don’t want to make somebody feel like that. Q: How did the Oscar change your life? A: It didn’t. Thank God. I don’t know where it is. I think it might be in Kentucky with my parents. I hope it’s in Kentucky because, if not, it’s gone! I don’t have it. Q: Did you keep any of your Hunger
Games costumes? A: No. You get sick of wearing the same thing every day. You are hot in it, cold in it and wet – every feeling of being uncomfortable you associate with that article of clothing. I always want to steal my “Games” outfit so I can burn it. Q: Do you feel anxiety when you start a new movie? A: I feel like I’m at a level 7 of anxiety all the time. It’s always pulsing through my body. Q: What do you do during your free time? A: Normal stuff – I read, watch TV, watch movies. I love trashy reality TV, I still do, because it’s the only thing I can lose myself in. I love Duck Dynasty.
Dear Debbie Got a problem? I want to help DEBBIE REYNOLDS GIVES ADVICE FROM THE HEART
I’m not ready to be a parent! Q: My sister has terminal cancer and she has asked me to raise her two elementary school-age children after she’s gone. I adore my niece and nephew, but I’m single, broke half the time and don’t have much in the way of maternal instincts. I feel she should arrange for them to live with a more suitable relative (there is no father in the picture), but she insists I am her only choice. Should I take the plunge? I can’t even begin to imagine how this will change my life. And how do I also deal with two grieving children? – R.C., RACINE, WISC.
A: Do your best for your family. Being a single aunt will take a lot of courage, work and love. Do what you can to give her children the kind of home your sister wants them to have.
Hubby’s hygiene is heinous Q: I don’t know whether my husband is losing it in his old age or what, but lately he refuses to trim his fingernails, toenails and ear hair. I’ve tried speaking to him nicely about it, telling him how handsome he’d look after a trip to the barber, but

My nosey dad’s getting on my nerves Q: After a few rocky years, I’m trying very hard to get my life back together at the age of 30. I’m living with my folks for a while until I get back on my feet. But I have a job, pay room and board and I help around the house. The problem is my snoopy dad. He goes through stuff in my room and he even opens my mail! We fight about it all the time, and he tells me he has every right to know what my bills are and when they are due to make sure I don’t get in trouble again. I don’t agree. What do you say? – O.D., PORTLAND, MAINE
LETTER OF THE WEEK
A: Keep peace by keeping some distance. Since you’re paying rent at home, tell your father you’ll find a room somewhere else where you can have your privacy. Dad doesn’t have the right to read your mail.
A few words for...George Clooney THE stars collide! It’s time for George Clooney and Russell Crowe to let it all go. Mega-star George and Australian Gladiator Russell have been at odds for years. While they don’t have to be friends, they certainly don’t have a good reason to be true enemies. George recently rehashed the beef they’ve been having since 2005, when Russell was quoted as saying, “George Clooney, Harrison Ford and Robert De Niro are sellouts” because they get paid to do advertisements overseas. Russell was referring to a Spanish commercial
Clooney made advertising suits, De Niro’s overseas American Express ads and Ford’s spot for Japanese cigarettes. Now, eight years later, it seems that George is still bothered by this. He says, “He picked a fight with me. He started it for no reason at all.” On the other hand, Russell’s assertion that his fellow actors are “sellouts” is ridiculous. It’s called work. Everyone wants to take a good job when it is offered to them. All of these men are huge international stars. It would be foolish for them to turn down a large paycheck. A: Clip this in the bud. Tell your husband that hygiene isn’t optional. If he doesn’t start taking care of himself, take him to the barber every two weeks for an overhaul.
Bro’s busting the bank for Yuletide Q: Almost everything about the holiday season is great in my family, except for my older brother. Doug is kind and generous to a fault. I know for sure that he’s in financial straits this year, but that won’t stop him from going into even more debt to buy everyone expensive gifts. I know he’s sensitive to the fact that he and his wife are the only ones in our family who have children, so I think he might buy extravagant presents to make up for us getting the kids stuff. But seriously, no one minds and no one is running a tally of who spends what on whom! I don’t want to open a can of worms or embarrass Doug, but it would be a shame if he goes into hock over this. Any suggestions? – T.L., GLENDALE, ARIZ.
A: Remember the Christmas spirit. Put a limit on the amount spent on family gifts this year. Ask to spend time with your brother around the holidays instead of giving lavish presents. Support a charity as a family instead of borrowing money for things you won’t remember in January.

ON THEIR ‘Dancing’ in danger as judge Len quits & Bruno may tag along
D
ANCING with the Stars may be facing the last waltz as judge Len Goodman is set to quit – and fellow judge Bruno Tonioli may follow his lead! Goodman, 69, known for his cutting remarks during DWTS’ 17-season run, has indicated health concerns, and the rigors of traveling from his native England for Los Angeles tapings have left him exhausted. Goodman pulls double judging duty, also serving on the panel of Britain’s Strictly
Come Dancing, the show that inspired DWTS. “If I had to leave one show it would be Dancing with the Stars, even though I’m paid a bit more for that,” says Goodman. A source tells GLOBE that Goodman, who had prostate cancer surgery in 2009, feels he can no longer make the grueling 11-hour flight from London to L.A. and return home to Britain every week. “Len doesn’t want his health to suffer to the point where he has to give up BOTH

making that trip every week without his buddy.” Facing the loss of both Goodman and Tonioli, the DWTS set has been thrown into disarray, the source adds. There have been rumblings about making pro dancers Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Julianne Hough judges, but there are concerns their friendships with the other dancers will make them less critical.
Pals Bruno and Len flank fellow panelist Carrie Ann Inaba. Pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy shows off his moves with ex-fiancee Karina Smirnoff (inset). Maks is now being touted as a judge
“If Len and Bruno quit, that would leave Carrie Ann Inaba as the only returning judge,” the source says.
“The guys are really the show’s identity. Len and Bruno leaving could really spell doom for ‘Dancing.’ ”
RYING TO ESCAPE SINKING VIEW THE VIEW is in utter chaos as the co-hosts play musical chairs and insiders worry the long-running ABC talk show will be doomed when Barbara Walters retires in May! Longtime panelist Sherri Shepherd is trying to jump ship, Elisabeth Hasselbeck quit and her successor Jenny McCarthy is being blasted by viewers. The View survived the loss of popular original co-hosts Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Joy Behar, but the exit of 84-year-old show creator Walters just might be the final nail in the coffin, say insiders. “Barbara was always the glue
that held everything together for so long,” a source tells GLOBE. Shepherd, 46, who in 2007 replaced Jones, has her resume out and is shopping for a new gig. She fears being kicked to the curb after Walters departs. “Sherri isn’t sitting around waiting to be shoved out the door. She knows it’s happened to Star and other people on The View,” a source tells GLOBE. “She wants to leave on her own terms before she is forced out or the ratings drop so low she becomes a scapegoat.” Ratings have been mixed this season. The View had just over 3
million viewers and is down about 200,000 from last season. It’s barely ahead of CBS rival The Talk. Walters has made it clear she wants to leave the show with a perfect cast. But former Playboy model McCarthy, 41, hasn’t been greeted with open arms by viewers since signing on in September. One viewer huffs on the Internet, “Hiring Jenny was a mistake” and another claims, “I stopped watching the day they put Jenny on.” The source points out, “The View has weathered some storms in the past, but it just feels like it’s falling apart right now.”
FORGET about a Girls’ Night Out. Naomi Judd and her daughters Wynonna and Ashley had a Change of Heart over their historically turbulent relationship. Now they all go to therapy to sort out family issues. Former singing partners Naomi, 67, and Wynonna, 49, and the baby of the clan, 45-year-old actress Ashley, have found that getting professional help is the best way to keep their family intact. “We may never discuss certain issues, except in the presence of our therapist,” Naomi candidly confides. “We have an awesome family therapist of 13 years now who sees each of us individually as well as in a family unit.” Still, when Wynonna married her third husband, drummer Scott “Cactus” Moser last year, neither her mom nor her sis was in attendance. Says a philosophical Naomi, “She’s 49, and I’m just like, ‘I’m the fireman, I only come when I’m called,’ which has taken me a long time to figure out.”

FRAMED FOR TRUE
CRUSHED Ryan Ferguson covered his face when the guilty verdict was read
CRIME
R
AILROADED by his best friend and prosecutors, innocent Ryan Ferguson was tossed in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. But now – after nearly 10 years behind bars – he’s free. A Missouri Appeals Court threw out his conviction for the 2001 slaying of Columbia Tribune newspaper sports editor Kent Heitholt saying Ferguson was framed by prosecutors, who withheld evidence that prevented a fair trial. “His verdict is not worthy of confidence,” blasts Judge Cynthia Martin. Red-faced prosecutors then agreed to drop their option for a retrial. Ferguson, 29, walked out of his prison nightmare on Nov. 12. “After studying the appellate court’s opinion and carefully reviewing the remaining known evidence in the case, the Attorney General’s office will not retry or pursue further action against Ryan Ferguson,” prosecutors said in a statement. Ryan’s attorney Kathleen Zellner noted, “It’s completely over. The evidence against him was fabricated. “We’ve proved that. And unless they want to fabricate more evidence, this is completely over.” Relishing a beer and a steak dinner in an eatery hours after his release, Ferguson gushed with thanks for his “beautiful girlfriend” Myka Cain and a horde of supporters who battled for his freedom after he was convicted. “To get arrested and get charged for a crime you didn’t commit is incredibly easy, and you lose your life very fast,” he says.
LIARS
KILLED Kent Heitholt was strangled in a parking lot
“But to get out of prison, it takes an army.” He notes that when he got the phone call about his release, “I kind of felt like I wasn’t awake. I’d been dreaming of it for so long.” Amazingly Ryan, who was sentenced to 40 years, would have spent another three decades in prison if he hadn’t won his battle for freedom. The stunning miscarriage of justice hinged on the fuzzy testimony of Ryan’s druggie pal Charles Erickson and a newspaper custodian, both of whom later admitted they lied in court. The heinous murder of Heitholt took place in the Tribune’s parking lot at about 2:20 a.m. on Halloween. The father of two was found beaten and then strangled with his own belt. The case remained unsolved until, more than two years later, Ryan’s high school pal

Erickson went to cops. He told them that after reading about the murder, he had dreams in which he and Ryan killed Heitholt during a robbery. He also said he believed he resembled a sketch of an alleged suspect. But he also said he was hazy about what happened, telling cops, “I could just be fabricating it all and not know. “This is after reading the newspaper article and this is kinda what I put together with what could’ve happened. “From there on, I’m just presuming what happened. I’m making presumptions based on what I read in the newspaper.” Still, he claimed he hit the newsman and Ryan strangled him. When cops questioned Ryan, he told them he and Erickson, who were 17 years old at the time, had been underage drinking at a bar and then drove home. But he also admitted not being able to remember much about the boozy night. Incredibly, there wasn’t a shred of forensic evidence to link the teens to the crime. Still, at his 2005 trial, Ryan was convicted of second-degree murder on the testimony of Erickson and Tribune night janitor Jerry Trump, who claimed he’d seen the teens in the parking lot around the time of the murder. But Trump later recanted his testimony saying he falsely identified the teens from a picture he was shown. Erickson also changed his testimony later saying, “The police threatened me to implicate

Ryan’s lawyer Zellner says, “Everything is wrong about this case. It makes absolutely no sense.”
Now, Ryan’s got a second chance at life. He’s writing a book about his hellish experience and plans to work with his dad, a real estate broker. Incredibly, he feels no bitterness toward his old pal Erickson and even refuses to believe he’s guilty of the murder. “I know that he’s been victimized,” he says. “He’s an innocent man in prison.” December 9, 2013 / GLOBE 21
NO MERCY FOR THIEF WHO BURNED CLERK ALIVE! TRUE CRIME F IREBUG Matthew Lee Johnson, who robbed 79-year-old gas station cashier Nancy Harris and burned her alive, will soon be roasting in Hell now that a Lone Star State jury sentenced him to death. Nancy’s son Brian Harris told the fiend after his fate was read in court, “I’ll be there the day the state of Texas straps you to a gurney and sends you to meet your maker.” Johnson, a 38-year-old ex-con with a 22-year-long rap sheet for crimes including theft, assault and sexual assault, struck on May 20, 2012, just a month after he’d walked free following a lengthy stay behind bars. Chilling surveillance camera footage showed a man with a plastic water bottle enter the Fina Whip-in gas station in Garland, Texas, shortly after it opened at 7 a.m. No one else was in the convenience store. The terrified cashier fully cooperated with his demands. After Johnson walked behind the counter, she opened the register and gave him the cash. He grabbed cigarettes and a lighter, and stole a ring off her finger before dousing her with lighter fluid that was in the bottle. Then he set her on fire, casually grabbing

Cowardly killer begs for his life – but gets date with executioner
a candy bar as he strolled out of the store. The nightmarish images showed her hair and upper body on fire as she frantically tried to extinguish the flames in a sink.
Human inferno
Nancy was a cashier at the Fina Whip-in gas station in Garland, Texas 22 GLOBE / December 9, 2013
Still ablaze, she staggered outside where alert cops spotted her on fire from several blocks away and sped over to put out the human inferno. But Harris died in the hospital five days later. She had burns to more than 40 percent of her body and was never able to speak with detectives. Lawmen captured Johnson shortly after the Sunday morning atrocity when they saw him cowering in bushes after he’d tried to break into nearby homes. Following a two-week trial, he was convicted
of capital murder. During the penalty phase, the cowardly creep pleaded for his life for the sake of his three daughters ages 15 to 3. He told panelists, “I just want to live long enough to see my girls grow up. I feel like a coward. I ask forgiveness from the victim’s families and for the court to have mercy.” But prosecutors revealed that in monitored jailhouse phone calls with his family for nearly 18 months, the remorseless killer didn’t mention his victim until the week before his trial. Following the Nov. 8 death sentence vote, and as he was being shipped off to Death Row at the Polunsky Unit near Huntsville, Texas, another son, Scott Harris, said Johnson is only “sorrowful because he got caught.” – BOB BURNS bobburns@globefl.com

UPERSTAR Cher, whose lesbian daughter underwent sex-swap surgery to become a man, has blasted Republican Party sweetheart Sarah Palin over her opposition to the gay lifestyle, using the most vile terms to slam the right-wing politician. Enraged like a mother bear protecting her cub, the 67-year-old songbird penned a seething foulmouthed rant against the Tea Party darling on an Internet site. “Go to the dictionary and look up The ‘C’ Word,” writes Cher. “Next to the definition, you’ll see a pic of Sarah Palin! No, wait. She’s under DUMB C word.” Cher’s rage was triggered by the former Republican vice presidential candidate’s controversial views on homosexuality, including opposing same-sex marriage and believing that prayer can “cure” gays, say sources.
CHER PALIN IN GAY SHOWDOWN! VS
No respect Insiders say the entertainer has taken Palin’s crusade against gay rights as a personal slap in the face because her daughter Chastity came out as a lesbian before undergoing gender reassignment. Chastity is now a man named Chaz. “For a long while, Cher was confused by Chaz’s decision to become a man,” says a source. “Eventually, she supported him. “But learning Palin was against all gays infuriated her. She cannot respect someone like Palin who is totally against this lifestyle. She dislikes Sarah intensely because she’s against gays. “Aside from Chaz’s attempts to lead a brave new life, Cher has millions of homosexual fans who want equality.” Sources say Palin earned Cher’s anger by openly supporting an anti-gay national fast food chicken sandwich chain and proudly

Singer rips GOP pinup who says prayer can ‘cure’ homosexuality promoting the restaurants by wearing its T-shirts to public events. The former Alaska governor, who became known as “Caribou Barbie,” also supports “Pray-AwayThe-Gay” religious conversions, adds the source. But insiders say the Turn Back Time singer’s dislike of Palin dates back to 2010. Cher told an interviewer she saw the politician on the C-SPAN channel and was shocked by what she considered was Palin’s stupidity.
Cher told an interviewer “Sarah Palin came on and I thought, ‘This is the end. Because a dumb woman is a dumb woman.’ ” Now, Palin’s work “behind the scenes against gays and lesbians whom she sees as degenerates,” has Cher in a fury, says the source.
Revenge campaign “Cher takes all this very personally and feels it’s especially directed against her one-time daughter Chastity,” the source says. Meanwhile, Cher’s attack has
ignited a feud with Palin, who has vowed to battle back. “Sarah is very angry,” says a Palin insider. “Now Sarah’s gearing up a revenge campaign to slap Cher down. It will be on the Internet, in print and at public speaking events she makes across the nation. “She sees Cher as a foulmouthed, super-liberal, fading Hollywood star. Sarah wants payback for the insults.” – TONY BRENNA newstips@globefl.com

DR. KILDARE
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
MEDICAL sitcoms and dramas have always had the perfect Rx for great television, but what have 20 of your favorite TV doctors and nurses been up to since they left the air? GLOBE has the cure for your curiosity right here!
Came out of closet & split with lover
RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN lived a successful and rewarding double life! He became a superstar heartthrob playing debonair Dr. Kildare on TV from 1961 to 1966 – but in reality, he is gay and has no interest in fawning femmes! After decades of starring in blockbuster TV epics like the miniseries Centennial, The Thorn Birds and Shogun plus doing guest appearances and recurring roles on shows like Will & Grace and Leverage, Chamberlain finally “outed” himself 10 years ago. He’d spent years publicly denying his homosexuality. In his memoir, Shattered Love, he confessed he’d tried to hide his sexual preference to protect his matinee idol image, which
began when he played the TV doc. “I disliked myself intensely and feared this part of myself, and had to hide it and become ‘Perfect Richard, all-American Boy,’ ” he wrote. Since coming out, he’s played gay characters in the 2007 film I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and on TV’s Brothers & Sisters in 2011. Now 79, Chamberlain split from his longtime lover and former agent, Martin Rabbett, 60, in 2010 when he moved back to Los Angeles from Hawaii to reignite his career.
JULIA Cheated on her husband
BEAUTIFUL Diahann Carroll starred as a strong, widowed mom trying to make ends meet as a nurse on the 1968 breakthrough series Julia. After the first TV show ever to have a black lead star ended in 1971, the versatile actress, now 78, held roles on shows like The Colbys, Dynasty, A Different World and Grey’s Anatomy. She played June Ellington on the USA Network’s White Collar. Carroll, who was nominated for an Oscar for the 1974 film Claudine, appeared in the 2013 Tyler Perry film Peeples and is currently filming A Masked Saint. Off screen, she has been wed four times. Her last hubby was singer Vic Damone, whom she divorced in 1996 after nine years of marriage. In her 2008 memoir The Legs Are the Last to Go, Carroll revealed she had a torrid affair with Sidney Poitier in the early ’60s while they were both married to other people. She claims the fling broke her heart. Carroll has endured other crises. She beat breast cancer in 1998 and some insiders fear she may be facing dementia.

HAWKEYE PIERCE
DR. QUINN Marriage is bad medicine
NOT even the healing powers of her small screen alter-ego could save Jane Seymour’s fourth marriage! The 62-year-old British-born beauty recently filed for divorce from actor James Keach – and insiders predict it’s going to be ugly with allegations of cheating! Professionally, after starring in 149 episodes of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman from 1993 to 1998, Seymour went on to recurring roles in the series Smallville, Modern Men and most recently Franklin & Bash. She also appeared in the films Touching Wild Horses, Wedding Crashers and Jake Squared in 2013. In 2007, Seymour was the seventh celebrity hoofer sent packing in Season 5 of Dancing with the Stars. But no worries: She’s a winner elsewhere! Seymour has become a one-woman business empire. In addition to her “Open Hearts” jewelry, she’s a painter, a furniture designer, and has lines of home accessories and botanicals. Jane has four children – Katherine, 31, and Sean, 28, by second hubby David Flynn, and twins John and Kristopher, 18, by Keach.

He’s starred on TV’s ER and The Big C and had parts in Woody Allen movies including Crimes and Misdemeanors. The host of PBS’ Scientific American Frontiers hasn’t ruled out returning to a small screen series, saying he’ll do “whatever comes along that interests me.”

Dr. Mark’s a shrewd operator
WILLIAM DANIELS has made more money than his St. Elsewhere character, Dr. Mark Craig, could have ever dreamed of! Thanks to shrewd investments including restaurants, a vodka brand and a fashion line, the 86-yearold now has an estimated net worth of $245 million! Daniels reportedly raked in an amazing $82 MILLION between September 2012 and September 2013 alone! But that hasn’t cured him of the acting bug. Last year he returned to a small screen hospital to play Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Craig Thomas. Married to Bonnie Bartlett, who played his wife on St. Elsewhere, Daniels is reprising his role as George Feeny in the series Girl Meets World for the Disney Channel.

Loretta Swit’s helping animals
SHE was a sex kitten on M*A*S*H and now blonde bombshell Loretta Swit is a real-life animal advocate as an active board member of Actors and Others for Animals. The Army comedy’s “Hot Lips” Houlihan hasn’t been seen onscreen since playing Mrs. Jones in 1998’s Beach Movie but is a frequent stage performer. Swit, 76, appeared with L.A. Law hunk Harry Hamlin in the play One November Yankee in Los Angeles. Last spring she performed the one-woman show Eleanor: Her Secret Journey, about former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Loretta, who never had kids, divorced hubby Dennis Holahan in 1989. She has never remarried explaining, “My partner is the audience.”
Nurse Helen’s fling with co-star
ART imitated life for the St. Elsewhere nurse who was romantically linked in real life with the late actor Herb Edelman, who played her onscreen significant other. Christina Pickles, 78, who has two children, was nominated for five Emmys for the hospital series. When the show went dark, she went on to appear in other TV series, most notably playing the Emmy-nominated role as mother of Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer – Monica and Ross Geller – on Friends. She also had a recurring role on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. In January, Pickles will costar in a new Web series Christina comedy, Pickles with Break a Herb Edelman Hip.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? EMT Roy fought to revive career
PLAYING paramedic Roy DeSoto on Emergency! for seven seasons typecast actor Kevin Tighe to the point he believed his career was “dead.” “I was married on the show and I wore a uniform,” he explains. “I played a rather boring character.” Persevering, Tighe resuscitated his career by leaving TV and working on stage. He returned to Hollywood with a vengeance doing the films Eight Men Out, Road House, Matewan, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Newsies. More recently, he played conman Anthony Cooper on six episodes of Lost. At age 69, Tighe has remained good friends with his Emergency! co-star Randolph Mantooth and was best man at “Gage’s” 2002 wedding to Kristen Connors.

Gage is real-life medical hero
Dr. Kelly Brackett raises donkeys! WORKING in Westerns may have helped Emergency! star Robert Fuller in his new line of work – raising miniature donkeys! Accustomed to playing cowpokes on Wagon Train and Laramie, Fuller wasn’t interested in the role of lead physician Dr. Brackett until Emergency!’s boss, Dragnet legend Jack Webb, twisted his arm. After the medical drama’s seven-season run ended in 1979, Fuller had a recurring role on Walker, Texas Ranger playing retired lawman
Wade Harper, who was the greatgreat-great grandson of his Laramie character Jess Harper! But he then fled Tinseltown because “to tell the truth, I got tired of living in the same town with Rosie O’Donnell and Sean Penn.” Now, Fuller raises miniature donkeys and horses on his Texas ranch with his second wife of 12 years, former JAG star Jennifer Savidge, 61. He also attends TV Western-themed gatherings with his best friend, former star of The Virginian, James Drury.
At age 80, Fuller is still fit to scrub up for surgery!
TV PARAMEDIC John Gage has become an icon to reallife first responders, thanks to Randolph Mantooth, the actor who played him from 1972 to 1979 on Emergency! The lanky actor has built a bustling public speaking business visiting about 20 fire and emergency services conferences a year! After the show left the air, Mantooth bounced around, guesting on various dramas including The Fall Guy, L.A. Law, Diagnosis Murder, ER and the soaps As the World Turns and One Life to Live. He was also on Sons of Anarchy in 2011. Wed to second wife Kristen Connors since 2002, Mantooth, 68, is a spokesman for two emergency service organizations. He also works with Project 51, a group that honors rescue personnel.

WHERE Paul Hunter ARE THEY still making NOW? bold moves AFTER completing his five-season stint as Dr. Paul Hunter on The Bold Ones: The New Doctors in 1973, David Hartman played Lucas Tanner for a year and then made the bold move to news. He was a headliner on ABC’s Good Morning America from its inception in 1975 until 1987, and then made his boldest move of all – walking away from the spotlight to spend more time with his wife Maureen Downey and their four kids, all age 12 and younger! “It’s a great job if you’re single or hate your family, because you’re not around much,” Hartman said of his days at GMA. “I realized that if I was really going to have any balance between work and family, I’d have to leave.”

Dr. Joel hunts cure for ALS
ROB MORROW is not a real-life doctor, he only played small town Alaskan healer Dr. Joel Fleischman on Northern Exposure – but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to pull off a major medical miracle, finding a cure for Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS. The handsome 51-year-old star is on the Board of Directors of Project ALS, co-founded by New York theater producer Jenifer Estess, who was diagnosed in 1997 and died at age 40 in 2003. The group raises money to fund research for ALS, a cruel and fatal neuromuscular disease that causes muscle atrophy throughout the body. Morrow has also kept busy acting, starring in Quiz Show, playing John Wilkes Booth in the TV movie The Day Lincoln Was Shot and guesting on dozens of TV shows. He was a lead in the crime drama Numb3rs. He’s been married to actress Debbon Ayer for 15 years and they have a 12-year-old daughter, Tu Simone.

Margaret Wybor little secret
BEFORE Hattie Winston played Margaret Wyborn on Becker, she left Robert De Niro in dire need of CPR by performing a sexy, sultry dance to the classic tune Baby Love in the 1997 Quentin Tarantino film Jackie Brown! Winston had previous experience to make playing the feisty head nurse on Ted Danson’s sitcom a snap. She donned the white cap and dress to play Toni Gillette on the 1981 to 1982 drama Nurse. She’s also appeared on Homefront, plays Sister Pearly on the TV Land series The Soul Man and is a prolific voice-over artist. Now 68, Winston has been long wed to Dancing with the Stars musical director Harold Wheeler. They adopted daughter Samantha in 1983.

urse
BEST known for her role as matriarch Olivia on The Waltons, Michael Learned got a hard-knock lesson in life from a desperate battle with alcoholism four years before she landed the role as head nurse Mary Benjamin in the CBS medical drama Nurse. Learned beat the bottle during her eight-season run on The Waltons and played gritty Nurse Benjamin in 1981. Since then, the 74-year-old actress has appeared in dozens of TV shows and movies. She was a regular on General Hospital in 2010 and The Young and the Restless in 2011. She also played Mrs. Wilk on the medical sitcom Scrubs. Married to fourth hubby John Doherty since 1991, Learned was forced to miss last year’s 40th reunion of the remaining Waltons cast members at an L.A. theater because she was in Wilmington, Del., starring in the play The Outgoing Tide.

ARNETIA WALKER’s four-season performance as the strong-willed head nurse on the ’90s sitcom Nurses was good training for her current role as a real-life acting and singing teacher for children! The 57-year-old actress shows kids the ropes at the Blackrock Center for the Arts in Germantown, Md. It would be wise for her students to soak in all her knowledge. She appeared on NYPD Blue, The Cosby
Mysteries, Just Shoot Me!, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Big House. She starred with Martin Lawrence in 2008’s College Road Trip. And she’s also known for being the first actress to play all three Supremelike singing roles on stage in the hit musical Dreamgirls. Walker is married to television news anchor Elliott Francis, and they have one son, Trevor.
GONZO GATES COCAINE HORROR
AFTER Gregory Harrison finished his seven-season stint on Trapper John, M.D., he revealed a shocking secret – in real life, he’d been gonzo on cocaine! In 1987, the actor who played Gonzo Gates entered the Betty Ford Center to battle his drug addiction in the nick of time. He was barely able to save his marriage to former CHiPs beauty Randi Oakes. Since becoming clean and sober, Harrison has been a regular on Falcon Crest, Sisters, Dark Skies and New York News, along with making dozens of appearances in TV movies. He’s also had recurring roles on Ed, Judging Amy and Touched by an Angel. He was recently on the series Psych and has a role in the upcoming TV film Reckless. Off screen, Harrison and Oakes have been wed for 32 years and have four kids: daughters Emma, 27, Lily, 24, Kate, 22, and adopted son Quinn, 22. At age 63, Harrison is an avid surfer, and has ridden the waves on “every surfable ocean on almost every continent,” a source says.

WHERE Steven Kiley needs Rx for marriage ARE THEY NOW? JAMES BROLIN has kept very busy since playing Dr. Steven Kiley opposite the late Robert Young on Marcus Welby, M.D., from 1969 to 1976! He’s appeared in a slew of films and TV shows, stumped for Hillary Clinton – and married Barbra Streisand to boot! The actor, now 73, had other series, playing Peter McDermott on Hotel (1983 to 1988) and Lt. Col. Bill Kelly on Pensacola: Wings of Gold (1997 to 2000) and appeared on programs like West Wing, Roseanne and Burke’s Law. This year, he gueststarred on NBC’s Community and ABC’s Castle. Off screen, James fathered two sons, Josh Brolin, 45, and Jess Brolin, 41, with first wife Jane Agee, whom he married in 1966 and divorced in 1985. He has a daughter Molly, 26, James Brolin as Dr. with second wife Jan Smithers as a result Steven Kiley and Robert of a nine-year union that ended in 1995. Suicide nightmare for Dr. Elizabeth Corday
ER
LAURA INNES, 56, played lesbian Dr. Kerry Weaver on ER and also directed several episodes after joining in the series’ second season. Tragically, Innes’ fiance, father of her 23-yearold son Cal, was murdered in the early ’80s. But she later found love with hubby David Brisbin. In 2002, they adopted a daughter, Mia, from China. “That kept me homebound,” Innes says. However, Innes got out enough to play Sophia Maguire in the 2010 NBC series The Event and Capt.
A YEAR before she began playing crackerjack physician Dr. Corday on ER, unlucky in love Alex Kingston needed some real-life emotional healing! The actress now admits she nearly committed suicide when first husband Ralph Fiennes dumped her in 1996. Luckily, she didn’t follow through and she thrilled ER fans for seven seasons. Corday wasn’t her last medical role. She played Nurse Ratched in a stage production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and guested as psychiatrist Dr. Marla Thompkins on Private Practice. Since 2008, Kingston has been in the recurring role of timetraveling archaeologist River Song on the sci-fi drama Doctor Who. She recently wrapped filming on Bukowski, a
Tricia Harper in the short-lived 2012 NBC series Awake. Last summer, she returned to the stage after a 15-year absence, appearing in the play When the Lights Went Out – about the 2003 Big Apple power failure – at Vassar’s Powerhouse Theater.
Alex, with Erik Palladino in a scene from ER, had her own real-life drama
movie about American poet Charles Bukowski. She’s happy to find work, noting each year when “thousands of pilots are cast, and only eight are suitable for you, it’s a really awful statistic.” Off screen, Kingston, 50, is separated from second hubby Florian Haertel, with whom she has a daughter, Salome, 12.

NEW AUTOPS
Private eye Paul Huebl (left) and pathologist Cyril Wecht believe a new autopsy would end the mystery
JFK, Jackie and Texas Gov. John Connally moments before the shooting
CSI experts want to DIG UP Prez NOW & END assassination mystery
P
RESIDENT John F. Kennedy’s body must be dug up for a new autopsy! That’s the bombshell demand of CSI experts who insist it’s the only way to finally learn the truth about the President’s assassination in Dallas 50 years ago. A former FBI agent blew the whistle on the Kennedy cover-up and told GLOBE, “Dig up JFK now! New forensic tests and techniques will reveal who killed him and how. It will prove once and for all that there was a conspiracy. On the 50th anniversary of his death this is the least we owe his family and the nation.” The government’s official investigation, conducted by the Warren Commission in the year after the murder, concluded Kennedy was shot from behind by lone assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. But many investigators insist the commission’s findings are a whitewash and believe a new autopsy could reveal the President also had a frontal wound caused by a SECOND assassin. L.A. private investigator Paul Huebl says exhuming JFK’s body and performing a new autopsy is 40 GLOBE / December 9, 2013
“the only way to learn how many bullets hit him, what direction they came from, if there was one shooter or more and whether metal particles are still inside his corpse.” He notes “There are many scientific tests that can be conducted using modern CSI technology that weren’t available” when 46-year-old JFK was slain on Nov. 22, 1963. Analyst Matthew Smith, author of the new book Who Killed Kennedy?, is also pushing for a new autopsy. He claims JFK was gunned down in a military-style ambush by several assassins stationed around the presidential motorcade. “President Kennedy’s remains must be re-examined, this time by the top pathologist in the nation,” says Smith.
Conspiracy theories Certainly, powerful new evidence has surfaced questioning the official conclusion that Oswald acted alone. As GLOBE recently reported, a new book reveals physicians who treated JFK when he was rushed to Dallas’ Parkland Hospital claim the President had wounds caused by bullets entering the FRONT of his body.
Accused Lee Harvey Oswald shows off the rifle feds say was used to shoot JFK
JFK’s slaying spawned conspiracy theories insisting Oswald did not act alone or was framed. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson has been named as the mastermind behind the murder, according to new books. Meanwhile, forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht tells GLOBE a new autopsy using state-of-the-art CSI techniques can finally answer the mysteries behind Kennedy’s death. In 1972, Wecht became the only CSI expert not appointed by the government allowed to inspect the forensic evidence at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. He
noted key evidence was missing. “JFK’s brain, which had been set in a container with formaldehyde, was gone, and none of the experts who had handled it could explain where it went,” says Wecht. It was “obvious to me” why the brain had vanished, he says. “It would have shown the trajectory of the bullets, confirming there was a shooter in front of the limousine.” But even without the brain, a new autopsy using modern techniques could reveal a lot, insists the pathologist. “A computer animation engineer could track the horizontal and vertical trajectories to locate where

the bullets were fired from,” he says. “And we could determine whether JFK’s throat wound was an entrance, as the doctors at Parkland Hospital in Dallas maintained, or an exit, as the Warren Report claimed.” Wecht, whose latest book is Final Exams, believes a cover-up of the truth was launched immediately following the shooting. In the archives’ photos of JFK’s scalp, Wecht saw thick hair at the top rear section of the gunshot victim’s skull, which contradicts testimony by Parkland doctors who said they saw a large gaping hole in the area.
Kennedy was only 46 years old when he was slain
“It was as if the scalp had been rearranged to mask the wound that the E.R. surgeons saw,” says Wecht. Kennedy was shot while riding with his wife Jackie, Texas Gov. John Connally, who also was wounded, and Connally’s wife Nellie. By law, JFK’s autopsy should have been conducted in Dallas. Instead, the body was spirited away at gunpoint by federal agents and flown in Air Force One back to Washington where the autopsy was performed in Bethesda Naval Hospital. Wecht says, “Doctors who had never performed a gunshot autopsy were brought in” and “unidentified
men in suits were in the morgue controlling all the action. “The doctors were commanded to write in their report that the President was shot twice, from a shooter who was above and behind the limousine.” That fit the Warren Commission’s conclusion that Oswald fired three shots from behind Kennedy from a sniper’s nest on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. The commission said Oswald missed one shot but put two slugs into JFK. Says Wecht, “They claimed one bullet entered Kennedy’s back,
exited the front of his neck, entered Connally’s back, pierced the right lung and broke five inches of rib, exited the front of his chest, re-entered the back of his wrist, shattering the arm bone, exited from the wrist and re-entered the governor’s left thigh, then fell out through his clothing and onto his stretcher, remaining pristine. “It’s the most scientifically absurd piece of fiction ever written.” Adds Huebl, “It’s our patriotic duty to contact our legislators and demand the body be exhumed. We deserve the truth!” – DAWNA KAUFMANN newstips@globefl.com December 9, 2013 / GLOBE 41

IABETES is one of the Top 10 causes of death in the U.S. – and not knowing the symptoms of this disease can be fatal, warn experts. Even James Bond isn’t immune! Actor Roger Moore, 86, who played 007 in seven movies between 1973 and 1985, was recently rushed to the emergency room at Princess Grace Hospital near his home in Monaco after he collapsed. “I was straight on a slab,” he says. Doctors ran tests and determined Moore had diabetes.

America is in crisis, too, Matthew Peterson, managing director of medical information at the American Diabetes Association, tells GLOBE. Statistics show 25.8 million Americans have diabetes, with almost 2 million new cases being diagnosed each year. Diabetes contributes to 231,404 deaths annually. The classic symptoms are frequent urination and thirst. If you have Type 2, you may also experience tingling in the hands and feet. People with Type 2 diabetes may not have many symptoms, so get screened annually with a blood test, especially if you are at a higher risk because of your genetics or weight, he says. Artichokes kill cancer
COOL news for women who suffer menopausal hot flashes – the first nonhormonal treatment for the problem has won FDA approval! Previous remedies contained estrogen alone or in a combination with another hormone, progestin. But many women can’t or don’t want to take hormones because they’ve been linked to cancer. The new drug Brisdelle soothes hot flashes, which affect 75 percent of women, with the same active ingredient, paroxetine, found in the antidepressant Paxil.
COUCH potatoes may be planting themselves in an early grave! According to a new study, the longer you watch TV the stiffer your arteries become, a major warning sign of future heart disease. Dutch researchers say two hours of viewing is the “critical cutoff.” Those who watched just 20 additional minutes had the stiffest arteries in volunteers who were tested at age 32 and again at 36. Even exercise won’t prevent TV watchers’ arteries from hardening, warn the scientists.
ARTICHOKES contain substances that kill pancreatic cancer cells, two new studies at the University of Illinois have discovered. The flavonoids apigenin and luteolin work by blocking a key enzyme in the growth of cancer cells, causing them to self-destruct in two aggressive forms of pancreatic cancer. The flavonoids found in artichokes functioned best when eaten by patients the day before a chemotherapy treatment. Apigenin and luteolin are also found in celery and Mexican oregano.

So he made his own.
ANJELICA BARES SUICIDE ORDEAL MOVIE star Anjelica Huston has ripped the lid off her turbulent love life, including a stormy affair with a married photographer that drove her to slash her wrists! In her memoir, A Story Lately Told: Coming of Age in Ireland, London and New York, Anjelica, now 62, reveals she was 18 years old and celebrity lensman Bob Richardson was 42 when they met in 1969 during a publicity photo shoot. They became red-hot lovers, but Richardson was bipolar and prone to rages. “I never felt so fragile as when Bob became demonic,” writes The Addams Family star, who later became Jack Nicholson’s lover. One morning, pushed to the edge while shacked up with Richardson in a hotel, she walked into the bathroom and “in desperation drew a razor blade across my left wrist. I ran back into the bedroom, blood spurting from the vein, crying to him: ‘Will this make you love me?’ ” Richardson rushed her to the emergency room where docs stitched her up – but their stormy relationship ran aground after four years.
A few years later, he brought 100 carats along on his honeymoon in New York City. But when the couple visited a Fifth Avenue jeweler for a professional opinion, the manager called the cops. Own a piece of emerald history. We have spent the last few years refining this complex process and the results are stunning. The spectacular lab-created stone at the heart of our Scienza® Marquesa Pendant is a vivid ¾ carat marquise-cut green beauty cradled in gleaming .925 sterling silver and surrounded by the fire of our exclusive DiamondAura® rounds. Perfect from the start. Mined emeralds are born in chaos. As a result, they are littered with flaws, inclusions and cracks. Scienza emeralds are absolutely free of natural imperfections. Even the finest South American stones are treated and filled to keep them from splitting. But every Scienza emerald begins and ends in perfection. The process begins with the seed of a natural emerald. In strictly controlled conditions, using intense heat of over 1800 degrees celsius, that seed takes over seven months to grow into a larger rough emerald. Chemically, the scientific stones grown in a lab are identical to mined emerald. They are just as hard and an incredibly rich, intense green.
Pendant enlarged to show luxurious detail.
Our expert appraiser has valued this pendant at $345 but since our chemist appreciates hard gems as well as hard earned cash, we are pricing this emerald pendant for the astoundingly low price of $39. That's 89% LESS!

A much greener emerald. Our Scienza Marquesa Pendant originates from the mind not the mines. Lorna Luft and Barry Manilow have been friends for years
LEAVE KATE
MANILOW FOUND DOC WHO SAVED LORNA’S LIFE LIZA MINNELLI’s sister Lorna Luft, 61, says she’s beating devastating breast cancer, thanks to her old pal Barry Manilow, who set up an appointment with top specialist David Agus. The first surgeon she’d seen lacked a bedside manner and told her, “OK, you’re going to have one month of chemotherapy, your hair will fall out and you’ll feel like ****,” says Lorna. But Agus, who’d taken care of testicular cancer survivor, cyclist Lance Armstrong, “called and said, ‘I’m looking at your biopsy and I can tell you now, Lorna, you’re going to be OK,’ ” she recalls. Lorna opted for a lumpectomy followed by chemo and radiation treatment because she didn’t want to lose her breast to a mastectomy. Now she’s on the road to recovery. Lorna says her hubby Colin threw a dinner party after her ordeal. “Barry was there,” she says. “I turned to him and said, ‘Thanks for saving my life.’ Because he did.” 44 GLOBE / December 9, 2013

Kate’s gray locks have drawn fire from critics
P
RINCE WILLIAM is outraged over bullying attacks on his beloved wife Kate after a few strands of silver gray hair showed up in her glossy chestnut locks. The 31-year-old heir to the Throne was astounded by the furor that erupted from sniping critics and stormed, “Have they nothing better to do with their miserable lives than turn a few gray hairs into a palace crisis?” Royal sources say William has been fuming at his wife’s cruel bullies for years, but things have gotten worse since their baby, Prince George, was born. “The poor girl just can’t win,” says royal expert Nicholas Davies, a friend of William’s late mother, Princess Diana. “Like Diana, Kate is a realist. Going gray is a natural part of getting older and at age 31, she’s not so vain that she feels she must always hide it.
“Kate is worshipped by millions. Unfortunately, there’s a vicious minority who take delight in trying to drag her down.” One online poster blasted, “My goodness, she looks awful – gray roots, lines on her forehead.” Another carped, “It’s her job to look good and she needs to remember that.” Palace insiders speculate Kate stopped coloring her hair to put as few chemicals into her body as possible so she can breastfeed.
‘Flaunting her roots’ Sources say the Prince’s anger boiled over after Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, was pictured meeting military personnel at an Armistice Day event on Nov. 7, wearing an elegant LK Bennett claret-colored coat. But a trace of gray was visible in the center parting of her new hairstyle. Another royal insider tells GLOBE, “Her critics accused Kate
of flaunting the gray roots to gain public sympathy for being a victim of stress, dealing with a new baby and the pressure of royal duties. “They pointed out she had bags under her eyes and looked drab and dowdy despite the luxurious designer coat. “The detractors are moaning she should have shown the royals respect by simply covering up the gray hairs and hiding the baggy eyes with makeup.” Since George’s birth, William has grown incensed over criticism of his family. “Kate came under fire for hiding away for weeks at her mother’s home right after George’s birth and not showing off the baby heir more to the adoring public,” says the insider. “But like many new moms, Kate was suffering from postpartum depression – the baby blues. “She was even criticized for losing her baby weight too quickly when she turned out at a sporting

Kate says she doesn’t care what they say, but I know that deep inside she’s hurt by the bully brigade.” And William has already warned off Kate’s most bitter enemy – his evil stepmother, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall. She’s waged a relentless campaign against his beautiful young wife, which only got worse after

DUCK DYNASTY’S RAGIN’ HOLIDAY!
The Robertsons: Jase, Melissa, Korie and Willie, attend the CMA awards Nov. 6
E
VERYONE’s gone quackers for the bearded boys of Duck Dynasty! The Robertson clan guested on the CMA awards in November and were invited to this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – and now they have their first A&E Christmas Special on Dec. 11. “Christmas is an important holiday for us, not only because of our strong faith but also our holiday family traditions,” says Willie Robertson. The holiday special will include songs from the family’s first album, Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas, which was released in October. The songs mainly consist of Christmas classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but there’s also a catchy new number titled Ragin’ Cajun Redneck Christmas. Willie says that “the family

grew up singing in church” and its “many musical members” showcase their talents on the album and the Christmas special. “Faith, family and ducks, in that order, have always been our priorities. We hope you enjoy it.” The backwoods boys from the Bayou recently ended the fourth season, which averaged 10 million viewers an episode. Diehard fans may have felt shortchanged this season because A&E only aired 10 episodes compared to the usual 13. “It seemed a bit shorter than usual because it was,” says Jase Robertson. “However, we added another season to the filming cycle so actually there will be more total episodes when all is completed.” That means even more money for the redneck millionaires who saw their wages soar from $50,000 to $200,000 per show earlier this year. The network has not yet
announced when Duck Dynasty will be back, but A&E is eager to get the cash cow back on the tube as soon as possible. In just two years, the Robertsons have turned their TV appeal into a massive brand and conquered America. A&E has just launched the Duck Dynasty: Battle of the Beards mobile app, which challenges fans to master the day-to-day antics of the wacky family, including hunting ducks. The Robertsons also have a Walmart merchandising deal, including clothing, sporting goods and even home furnishings that has raked in a staggering $400 million this year.

REALITY SHOW’S OUT OF THIS WORLD
NBC is going where no network has gone before – into space. The broadcasting company is joining forces with reality tycoon Mark Burnett and airline mogul Richard Branson to launch an unscripted series titled Space Race. The show focuses on a group of contestants battling it out to win a trip aboard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space shuttle, which will be taking rich tourists to the final frontier. They’ll compete to become an astronaut in grueling physical and mental challenges at Virgin’s state-of-the art private spaceport in New Mexico. Burnett, who produces The Voice, Shark Tank and Survivor, says, “For years I’ve pursued my dream of using TV to give an everyday person the chance to experience the black sky of space and look down upon mother Earth.” Victoria Principal and Ashton Kutcher are among the more than 600 people who’ve already paid to reach for the stars.

WILL GMA HOSTS JUMP SHIP?
THREE Good Morning America hosts are battling for enormous pay increases and a couple could even leave ABC for the Peacock network, insiders say. Josh Elliott, Robin Roberts and Lara Spencer are negotiating new contracts just as GMA is enjoying its status as the No. 1 morning show after 16 years of languishing in second place behind NBC’s Today. According to sources, the situation has turned Robin Roberts, into a “nightmare” for Josh Elliott and ABC News, which is Lara Spencer
enjoying its largest audience in 21 years. Reps for Elliott and Spencer, who joined the show in 2011, are said to be having serious talks with NBC News, which would love to break up the group and get Today show host Matt Lauer back on top, say sources. Meanwhile Roberts, who’s become one of the most popular personalities on morning TV following her brave battle with cancer, could be given her own talk show to keep her on board, insiders say.

Bill schooled Jon about his foul tongue
COSBY FUSSES OVER STEWART’S CUSSES! NAUGHTY, naughty, Jon Stewart! The Daily Show host has been called out by Bill Cosby for his potty mouth. During a recent visit to Stewart’s Comedy Central show, the 76-year-old entertainment legend tut-tut-ed over his comic colleague’s salty language during a performance at a charity bash. “You were out there and you used some words,” Cosby scolded. “And I said to myself, ‘Oh my!’ “What you have to understand, Jonathan, from whenst I cometh, when people cursed, the next thing is somebody was going to hit you.” Stewart, 50, protested that he wasn’t using profanity, he was speaking Yiddish. But Cosby was having none of it. “Excuse me, but I know some Yiddish,” he snapped back. “When Comedy Central is regularly censoring your words, it’s not Yiddish!”
GEORGE JONES’ ETERNAL TRIBUTE! NEARLY seven months after he was laid to rest, George Jones’ widow Nancy unveiled a new monument at his grave site memorializing the country music icon. On Nov. 18, family, friends and fans gathered at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery where The Possum – who died at age 81 in April – is buried. Attendees included Country Music Hall of Famer Billy Sherrill, who produced many of the legend’s hits, Grand Ole Opry star Jeanne Pruette, Hank Williams’ daughter Jett Williams, songwriter/ record producer Buddy Cannon, and singers Joe Diffie and Jim Lauderdale. The elaborate marker includes a large arch featuring the title of Jones’ popular 1980 song, He Stopped Loving Her Today, engraved above a guitar, along with an etched photo of him and his beloved fourth wife, Nancy. Two benches are placed on each side of his grave for fans who visit. The left side of the memorial reads in part, “George Glenn Jones was and is ‘The King of Broken Hearts.’ He sang of life’s hardships and struggles, in a way that somehow lightened our own.” The right side – reserved for Nancy – has

Widow unveils MASSIVE memorial to country star been left blank. The dedication kicked off George Jones Week, which included star-packed street parties and a 120-artist megaconcert at Bridgestone Arena, billed as “Playin’ Possum! The Final NO SHOW.” It was supposed to be the country titan’s final performance of his farewell tour before he retired, but became a tribute after his death. The event featured performances by George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Kid Rock, Martina McBride and Alan Jackson. Prior to unveiling the memorial, Nancy announced the creation of a scholarship fund at Middle Tennessee State University in honor of
her late hubby. She said, “George would have liked the fact that MTSU attracts so many firstgeneration college students. “Like George, they are hardworking folks who are determined to make their dreams a reality.” – SHELBY LOOSCH sloosch@globefl.com

GH’S AGING DIVAS PUSHED ASIDE!
Producers are highlighting story lines featuring (from left) Emme Rylan, Kimberly McCullough and Maura West
G
ENERAL HOSPITAL has won a longawaited ratings victory over rival CBS soap The Young and the Restless by shoving veteran stars onto the backburner in favor of younger, sexier cast members! Now GH’s long-standing divas, Nancy Lee Grahn, 55, Leslie Charleson, 68, and Jane Elliott, 66, aren’t happy with the change and are talking rebellion, insiders say. But GH’s executive producer Frank Valentini, who masterminded the strategy to give Emme Rylan, 33, Kimberly McCullough, 35, and Maura West, 41, juicier story lines, is delighted by his plan. The ABC soap is topping Y&R among women ages 18 to 49, the group coveted by advertisers.
Soap’s young vixens getting best plot lines
Older stars (from left) Leslie Charleson, Nancy Lee Grahn and Jane Elliott are getting less attention
“After the other ABC soaps, One Life to Live and All My Children, were canceled, staffers feared General Hospital was on the chopping block, too,” a source says. “If they didn’t start drawing more and younger viewers, the soap was going to be history. “GH’s plan worked like a charm. Nancy, Leslie and Jane owe their jobs to these younger actresses.” But sources say the older stars could soon see their roles whittled down to nothing. “More and more, any story lines they are given are just window dressing,” says the source. For Charleson, who has played Dr. Monica Quartermaine since 1977 and was part of the drama’s Luke-and-Laura heyday in the ’80s, it’s bittersweet to see the show on the rise once again.
“But Leslie says she has no clue when, or even if, she’s going to be a major player again on General Hospital,” says the source. “She’s troubled the show hasn’t worked harder to find a happy medium between showcasing the older and younger characters.” Sources say the plan to focus on youth is setting Charleson, Elliott, who has played Tracy Quartermaine since 1978, and Grahn, who has starred as Alexis Davis since 1996, against the newcomers. “It’s just a step short of all-out mutiny on the set – as the oldies are pitted against the newbies,” says the source. “It’s like a real-life soap opera within the soap opera and don’t expect a fairy-tale ending.” – ROGER HITTS newstips@globefl.com December 9, 2013 / GLOBE 57
