01 LAYER CITY New living stylestyle under under the Covid-19 New living thePainting Covid-19
June - September, 2020 Location: Tokyo, Japan Instructor: Dian Zhang Team Work with Sijia Chi Conceptual Design (50%) Technical Drawing (30%) Rendering Drawing (60%)
Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the way people live. Before the Covid-19, people used to spend more time on outdoors activities, such as shopping, dining and working. But due to the restriction under Covid-19, these activities have to be done indoors. It’s unlikely to keep all kinds of people in the same space and under same level of restriction, which is inefficient in constructing a innovative living space. Here we design a miniature city that can classify and arrange people under their social activity needs. This new design serves as a solution to hold more people under basic social restrictions, and satisfy more people’s needs under pandemic.

An experimental location of the layer city
Many subcultures originate from Tokyo, such as Otakuzuku, night club and distancing, which makes Tokyo an avant-grade city. Shinagawa is an emerging region in Tokyo, which contains the most complex transportation in Tokyo, well known IT companies such as Sony and Microsoft. The new living style is a basic condition for the development of new social spaces.

The miniature city mainly targets at two kinds of people, one who wants to be well isolated during the pandemic and one who desires to explore new living styles. In other words, the miniature city provides a new living style, even without pandemic, which condenses many activities into a limited space. Before entering the city, the residents will have a test inspired by Jung’s sixteen personality tests, which serves as a classification. There will be four questions in the test, as can be seen in the diagram. Depending on the choices, people will get scores and divided in groups

Layer 3:" Lone Wolf " The figure here shows the space for people who want a restriction to some extent. There is also capsule car which can transport only one person at a time, which is a special way of transportation under social restriction.
Layer 4: " Hermit " The fourth level is for those who want complete isolation. They have essentially no direct physical contact with the outside world and are connected to the outside world through pipeline transportation and networks. 06
02 BETWEEN MOUTAINS AND RIVERS Translation of Traditional Chinese Landscape Painting
May - June, 2019 Location: Anhui, China Instructor: Hui Zhao Individual work
The relationship between landscape and architecture is a subtle one. In general, they complement each other, with landscape being the backdrop for architecture and architecture being the reshaping of landscape. So, how to make buildings integrated with the natural environment became my thinking for my undergraduate architectural design project.

Mapping of Anhui, Jiuhua
Design Concept JIUHUA MOUNTAIN.
Jiuhua Mountain, a realistic mountain, contains many chapters with a sense of rhythm.
When Jiuhua Mountain first comes into view, we can see its clear shape. With its endless peaks, it lives up to the reputation as “the best mountain in Southeast China”. The bronze statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva stands quietly under the peaks, withstanding the test of time together with the mountains, the water, and the villages here. In the Tang Dynasty, Ksitigarbha Jin came to Jiuhua; Water Body over the next 1,600 years, the Ksitigarbha Bodhimanda has Mountain become widely known.

Finally, we constructed the landscape pattern model based on all the above analysis.

Today, with the increasing development of science and technology, the method of colonization has gradually changed to space colonization, and an important method of space colonization is to breed the latest generation of colonists through surrogacy. In contrast to contemporary society, the topic of surrogacy and reproductive rights has become increasingly controversial.t

In this philosophical model, "s" as the ontology produces a mirror a’ image of "a", and as the object that "s" wants to achieve or have a relationship with, "A" also produces a mirror image of "a'Mirror ". Therefore, the two mirror images are related to each other, and "S" and "A" are always in a state of being close and never reachable.

Freedom of reproduction
With the end of the two world wars, women's social status has been further improved, and the feminist movement and the movement for the right to reproductive rights have also ushered in a climax.
Fight for entire reproductive rights
In 1798, the British economist Malthus published "An Essay on the Principle of Population", which clearly opposed the classical view of population under patriarchal politics and proposed methods such as late marriage and abstinence to birth control.
With the development of society, the status of women is further reduced, and the divine power controlled by patriarchy begins to show the persecution of women.
In 16C, a small town in Boston executed many women under the pretext of "witch hunting".
With the development of society, the status of women is further reduced, and the divine power controlled by patriarchy begins to show the persecution of women.
Tools of the Patriarchal Society
In the Middle Ages, people used a torture instrument called Pear of Anguish to torture women, which would damage the genitalia and even kill them.
Capital
Thanks to the development of space technology, human colonization began to develop into space.
Space colonization
Colonialism in the new era is manifested in the invasion of culture, minds, and ideology.
Postcolonialism
On the basis of the looting of territories, raw material production areas, and labor, the colonies were further subjected to capital invasion by Western powers.
Architecture
With the development of society, the status of women is further reduced, and the divine power controlled by patriarchy begins to show the persecution of women.
Reiligious persecution
In Florence , women often gave birth to 5 to 10 children. Once they were pregnant, they had to write a will.
Maritime hegemony SiAfter Columbus discovered the New World, European countries began to expand overseas colonies, opening the Asia-Africa-Europe portal through ships and artillery.
Colonialism
According to the law of the Roman Republic, when a husband feels that he has a sufficient number of children, he can transfer his wife to others at will. It can be seen that women are only tools for family r eproduction.
For the expansion of early human settlements, reproduction gradually became a task
Theocracy Spreading Since the center of power in this period was concentrated in religious theocracy, the colonial manifestations in this period included religious propaganda in addition to military conquest.
Production Right
Ancient Egyptian women tried contraception with drugs.
In matrilineal societies, the task of reproduction is mainly undertaken by women, which leads to the reproductive worship of women.
Reproductive worship
Feminist
In primitive society, due to the harsh living environment, humans tended to reproduce naturally without restraint.t
Natrural reproduction
Aggression The early forms of colonial expansion in human society manifested itself as simple wars of aggression, with the main purpose of plundering territory.
History Line As mentioned before, reproduction and colonization are inextricably linked, and as a means of colonization, architecture has also left many marks in the history of human colonization. We also listed several landmark colonial buildings in the important colonial stage and used them as the source of our form.

04 WOVEN PERCEPTION HYPERLAPSE CHAMBERS An Installation with Carbon Fiber by the First Year Graduate Architecture Studio
PROJECT WEBSITE https://www.501curiouscabinets.com/projects-2021#/2021-hc-22/

Woven Perception explores the structural properties and fabrication strategies of carbon fiber to engage and interact with the chamber volume. The project extracts its shape from the boundary of the site subtracting double-curved polysurfaces to mold an undulated form. The self-sufficient structure is fabricated from resin-baked carbon fiber tow that is woven in various density patterns through a series of modular bakes to reinforce its lightweight structural capacity. The gradient weaving patterns serve as a physical connection between the woven modules and the user perspective guiding views through materiality and allowing for an interactive visual experience.

The digital expansion of the chamber also explores the incorporation of suspended solid between the layers of carbon in order to display the strength of the material as well as the proliferation of undulated formwork.
Since the molding of carbon fiber requires firing, we designed the fabrication module to accommodate the oven size while being more hand-friendly.
22
PHYSICAL MODELS
The final solid model took two weeks to make, and we cut the boards and fixed them with iron bars to make the frame. On top of that, we used carbon fiber to wind different densities. After firing each monolith, the carbon fibers cured and we removed the iron rods. Finally we build the base with acrylic and led lights to complete the assembly of each monolith.

05 BREAK THE ART HYPERLAPSE FINAL, New Art Museum Project Next to Philadelphia Museum of Art
October 2021 - December 2021 Critic: Danielle Willems Teaching Assistant: Shan Li Individual Project
A museum or gallery is an architecture that holds artworks, but the building itself can also be a work of art. It can be a sculpture of light and shadow, a three-dimensional painting. And while a work of art is usually properly placed and well protected, it can also be broken. A Chinese performance artist once took three pictures of himself breaking a piece of a delicate pottery, and the breaking itself became art. Therefore, I use breaking artwork as my concept for this project, to combine my initial ideas of fracture, void, flow. The project is a broken artwork, located on the west side of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, in contrast to its elegant and solid form. And the orientation of Facture corresponds to the site strategy, extending into the surrounding landscape. The different pieces formed by the fractures naturally correspond to the different functions and programs. The open-air theater is placed in the excavated fracture, facing the waterworks, and a void in the center of the building provides a public outdoor space. Thus, fracture, void, flow of transportation and function are tied together.
24
PRECEDENCE STUDY Void
Fracture
Flow In the begining of the project, we study some precedences to conclude three categories.I choose fracture, void, flow.
CITE STRATEGY&PRE-DESIGN So The project is a broken artwork, located on the west side of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, also making contrast with the classical and solid form of PMA.

To make the form of breaking I start with the site strategy and keep on with geometry grid system. The different pieces formed by the fractures naturally correspond to the different functions, programs and threshold.

The exhibition space start from this entrance and keep this way and here it combines with the education and public activity space. The open-air theater is placed in the excavated fracture, facing the waterworks, I’m also playing with the scale of carcks. The interior design of the project extends the concept of cracking. Based on the cracking of the exterior, the interior floor slabs and stairs follow the direction of the cracking extension. The cracked parts of the building are designed as light windows that extend to the ceiling. The building material also adopts cracked marble and metal to create a contrast. The surrounding landscape design also adopts the concept of rupture, dividing into undulating green areas.

06 LANTERN WITHIN THE CITY Street Eateries Design of Callowhill, Philly; SCHENK WOODMAN 2022 Competion
January 2021 Group Project with Francisco Anaya, Telmen Bayasgalan First Prize of SCHENK-WOODMAN 2022 Competion
This project is set up in a series of modular pieces of pods to create an eatery that is adaptable and multifaceted in order to coexist with its context. Through a system of interchangeable parts the eatery can easily be assembled at any location between the street and sidewalk. The pods are created through a system of origami that will compress within itself when it is not being used. In order to reduce the intertrousion on the sidewalk and the street.

ORIGAMI PATTERN DIAGRAM The pods are created through a system of origami that will compress within itself when it is not being used. In order to reduce the intertrousion on the sidewalk and the street. For times when traffic gets heavy the pods that are located on the street can compress into itself in order to open up another street lane, or open in order to create a parking space. For moments when traffic is light the pods come down in order to provide an eatery for the public. The public is in power to interchange this intervention based on the city's needs.

SITE PLAN The pod acts as an extra layer of protection for people. In order to help reduce the spread of this global pandemic, but also creating a space in which people can go outside and enjoy a nice time eating out with loved ones. In terms of materials, the pods will be wrapped with recycled pieces of plastic bags. This allows the pods to be translucent for customers to know which pods are being occupied.

RENDERS Furthermore, this design decision reduces the carbon footprint of the intervention and saves on materials costs. At the base of the main support pillar there is an open space that will serve as a temporary home for stray cats. Currently in the context there is a plethora of stray cats. The intervention will provide a warm and safe space for those deprived cats. The organic pods are designed in order to create a pleasant eating space all year around. As they are attached to a system of heating and cooling and integrate systems for natural ventilation.
