UNDERSTANDING CONVENTION CENTRE:A CONVENTION CENTRE IS A LARGE BUILDING THAT IS DESIGNED TO HOLD A CONVENTION WHERE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS GATHER TO PROMOTE AND SHARE COMMON INTERESTS. A CONVENTION CENTRE IS DESIGNED IN MOST CASES FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING MEETINGS, RALLIES OR SEMINARS. IT MAY ALSO BE ADAPTED FOR SPECIFIC EVENTS SUCH AS APPEARANCES BY WELL-KNOWN SPEAKERS OR MUSICIANS. IN SOME CASES MEETINGS OR OTHER EVENTS TAKE PLACE IN CENTRES OR BUILDINGS NOT SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR CONVENTIONS BUT LARGE ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE ATTENDEES. CONVENTION CENTRES RECEIVE GUESTS FROM LOCAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MARKETS. THE VARIOUS MARKET SEGMENTS THAT VISIT THESE FACILITIES ARE DICTATED BY THE TYPES OF EVENTS THAT ARE HOSTED. WHEN WE SAY BUSINESS AND CONVENTION CENTRE THERE SHOULD BE AN ADDITION OF MICE IN WHICH LARGE GROUPS USUALLY PLANNED WELL IN ADVANCE, ARE BROUGHT TOGETHER FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. MICE IS AN ACRONYM FOR THE MEETINGS, INCENTIVES, CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION SEGMENT. THIS IS THEREFORE A BUSINESS ORIENTED SEGMENT, AS IT IS USUALLY PROVIDED TO EMPLOYEES OR DEALERS// DISTRIBUTORS AS A REWARD, IT TENDS TO BE LEISURE BASED

BRIEF
NEED OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS & CONVENTION CENTRE:NONE OF THESE CENTRES CAN CATER TO ALL KINDS OF MICE EVENTS, SOME HOST EXHIBITIONS AND OTHER HOST CONFERENCES AND BANQUETS. THERE IS A CLEAR LACK OF INTEGRATED CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION CENTRE OF GLOBAL STANDARDS IN PUNE CITY.
PROJECT ATTRIBUTES:THE IDEA OF AN INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE HAS BEEN DERIVED FROM THE PRESENT SCENARIO OF RAPID GROWTH OF INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGY, ART AND CULTURES. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND CONVENTION CENTRE SERVE TO PROVIDE A LOCATION FOR MEETINGS, CONVECTION, TRADE SHOWS, PUBLIC SHOWS, THE ART, LOCAL INTERESTS ETC. TYPOLOGY: - COMMERCIAL , USE: PUBLIC AIM:INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO URBAN STUDIES WITH COMPLEXITIES RELATED TO URBAN PLANNING LEVEL SUCH AS URBAN FABRIC, ROAD NETWORK, LAND-USE PLANNING, TOWN PLANNING ASPECT OF COMMUNITY PLANNING, SOCIO ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS AND PROGRAM FORMULATION FOR PARTICULAR AREAS BASED ON CURRENT AND FUTURE REQUIREMENTS OF PARTICULAR REGIONS. SITE PLANNING TO ACCOMMODATE MORE THAN ONE BUILDING ON SITE AND HELP STUDENTS TO EVOLVE THE INTEGRATED UNDERSTANDING OF THE COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE FORM, FUNCTION, CONTEXT AND AESTHETICS IN BUILDING. DESIGN METHODOLOGY: IDENTIFIED SITE FROM DEVELOPMENT PLAN PREPARED BY PCNDTA STUDENTS ARE GIVEN WITH THE DESIGN PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AS PER THE BYELAWS AND FSI CALCULATION FOR THE PARTICULAR PLOT AS A START. STUDENTS NEED TO ANALYZE THE REQUIREMENTS AND RELATE THIS WITH THE SITE CONTEXT AND SURROUNDINGS. 4
“EXPO GEORGIA” CONVENTION CENTER FOR TBILISI 5
Expo Georgia is a 15-hectare campus located northeast of the historic city center. The existing site established the parameters of the two-phase master plan for the campus including a 52,000 square meter exhibition center, a new 200-key hotel and ballroom, commercial development, a 10screen cineplex and below and above-grade parking. Based upon an extensive network of pedestrian loops, the campus will eventually include two new entry courts off of the main boulevard, tsereteliavenue, which provide access to an interconnected sequence of outdoor rooms framed by planting and paving that define the public realm. Outdoor decks and crushed granite courts accommodate outdoor exhibit and entertainment areas, enhanced by water features and A rich understory based upon regional precedents.
CASE STUDY
THE NEW CONVENTION CENTEROCCUPIES THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE CAMPUS WHILE THE HOTEL AND BALLROOM COMPLEX IS SET ALONG THE NORTH EDGE OF THE SITE. THESE TWOLINEAR FACILITIES REDEFINE THE CAMPUS, OFFERING A FOIL AND FRAME FOR THE LANDSCAPED GARDENS, COURTS AND EXISTING HISTORIC PAVILIONS.THE CINEPLEXIS PLACED AT THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF THE SITE, MARKING THE RE-ENVISIONED SOUTH ENTRY AND A BROAD EVENT LAWN. AN EXISTING RESTAURANT PAVILION WILL BE RENOVATED NEARBY, JOINING A CAFÉ SET ALONG THE EDGE OF AN EXISTING REFLECTING POOL. PHASE I INCLUDES THE FIRST HALF OF THE CONVENTION CENTERWHICH WAS DEVELOPED AS A SERIES OF STEPPED BARS OR EXTRUSIONS ON A 9-METER MODULE. THE MODULES ALLOW THE NEW FACILITY TO CAREFULLY SITUATE ITSELF IN RELATION TO THE EXISTING HISTORIC STRUCTURES ON SITE, WHILE ALSO BREAKING DOWN THE SCALE OF THE 256-METER LONG FACILITY. ORGANIZED ON TWO FLOORS THE MAIN LEVEL INCLUDES A GRAND LOBBY OVERLOOKING THE GARDENS GIVING ENTRY ONTO THE COLUMN-FREE EXHIBITION HALLS THAT CAN BE SUBDIVIDED INTO 5 SUB-MODULES THE SECOND LEVEL FENESTRATION IS SCREENED FROM THE LOW EASTERN SUN BY A SERIES OF VERTICAL LINEAR CAST-IN-PLACE ELEMENTS THAT ACCOMMODATE VIEWS ACROSS THE CAMPUS FROM THE MEETING LEVEL.

Close Enough To The Dwelling To Avoid Long Lengths Of Guttering And Downpipe (Some Suggest Siting The Tank Mid Way Along The Length Of A Building To Reduce Gutter Size– This Is Fine If Water From One Side Of The Building Only Will Be Fed Into The Tank) Reasonably Flat Where Possible – Otherwise The Ground Will Have To Be Levelled Before Marking Out Away From Areas Where Surface Water Will Gather (I.E. Depressions) Away From Trees – The Roots Of Trees Can Be Problematic Away From Areas Where Animals Will Wander – Or Else The Tank Should Be Fenced Off Not So Close To The Dwelling That The Foundations Of The Dwelling Are Undermined Somewhere Convenient For Extracting Water E.G. Close To The Kitchen Area
