Editor’s Note
As I write this, it’s the end of a full day of rain, and it reminds me how fortunate we have been here in Canterbury not to have experienced such devastating weather as our friends up north. Kia kaha hoa e wha¯nau – stay strong friends and family. Those golden autumn hues are starting to transform the landscape of Otautahi. As much as I love summer, this is the season that makes me breathe more deeply –and not just because my hay fever finally clears up. It’s a beautiful time of year in the garden city and a great season to be outdoors.
This is also the time of year to think about warming your home. In this issue we look at some cosy ways to warm up, from heating to woollen furnishings.
Our new Autumn Edit feature on page 40 brings autumnal colour inspiration along with fresh finds from some of our favourite design stores.
Our selection of homes includes a dream family home in Fendalton, an idyllic haven in Merivale, a stunning property nestled into the Jack’s Point landscape, a double-gabled haven in Canterbury and a minimalist Scandinavian-style retreat in Germany.
I hope that wherever you’re reading this issue of abode, you have a moment to relax and take in the colours of autumn.
