IMPORTANT HOTEL DEVELOPMENTS ARRIVING IN PAPAGAYO IN 2023 AND 2024
A recent report by Costa Rica’s Tourism Institute shows that this coveted region amounts to an important percentage of the upcoming luxury developments in Costa Rica.
With the advent of remote work and the skyrocketing of tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic, Costa Rica has experienced an important peak in terms of visitation and investment Its well-documented political stability, high education standards and stand-out tourism infrastructure have served as the perfect complement to this small Central American nation’s blessed natural wonders, with a particular emphasis being put on the paradisiacal beaches on the Pacific coast

A clear proof of the country’s effervescent current economy can be seen in the upcoming, high-end developments recently announced 19 hotel and resort projects are currently in construction, which, in an estimate made by Costa Rica’s Tourism Institute (ICT) will mean nearly half a billion dollars in investment, as well as the generation of 2500 new job opportunities
From the developments to open in 2023 or 2024, 4 out of 19 (21%) are set in Papagayo or its whereabouts These are the much commented Hotel One Only Papagayo Bay, Playa Pochote Resort Peninsula Papagayo, Six Senses Resort and Spa Papagayo, and the Waldorf Astoria Cacique Guanacaste Given these names, the information immediately showcases an important influx of luxury and ultra-luxury offerings, and also an interesting diversification of the usual resort hotspots, with Cacique and Pochote shining as examples of a current trend towards lesser known and more “authentic areas”, where a personalized experience can be had
Given the projections coming from ICT for the 2022 end-of-year and 2023 summer high-season, there seem to be no signs of Costa Rica’s tourist sector slowing down anytime soon, with numbers rapidly approaching their pre-pandemic homologues
