Considered as one of the richest marine areas in the whole world, the Central American nation has recently expanded its efforts towards ocean conservation. Despite

At nearly 600 thousand square kilometers of ocean surface and only 51 thousand square kilometers of land surface, this Central American oasis is 92% more water than anything else.

As with the rest of the country’s ecosystems, there’s been an important commitment to safekeeping its maritime territory. Perhaps the most notable example is Isla del Coco National Park, a protected area that has been praised by scientists as one of the world’s most exciting natural laboratories, and an essential habitat for marine life worldwide. In December of 2021, the Costa Rican government announced the expansion of Isla del Coco National park from around 2 thousand square kilometers to 55 thousand. The idea behind this was to have a wider protected area so it’s easier to study and safeguard all the fragile ecosystems and battle global warming.

ALEX BEJARANO Alex Bejarano was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, amidst one of his parents’ many moves between the U.S. and Bogotá, Colombia.

During his

childhood, they eventually settled in the small town of Texarkana, Texas, a place Alex called home until a final move to San José, Costa Rica was on the books. Alex finished up his studies and graduated from Latina University with

He was also the director of a local charity called Costa Rica Makes Me Happy which converts plastic into cinder blocks to build homes for those without a roof. A constant throughout Alex’s business career has been his involvement with his local church of Iglesia Casa Vida, where he currently serves as one of the pastors on staff. Alex is married to his beautiful wife, Terri Lynn, and has had the joy of raising their three children alongside her. As showcased by his business and personal trajectory, serving has always been one of Alex’s greatest passions in life.
