With Any FFS Surgery, a Hip Augmentation Should also be Considered Body feminization can consist of a variety of procedures that are designed to create a more feminine figure and shape. Though facial feminization can go a long way toward boosting your self esteem and allowing you to show your feminine self to the world, so can an hourglass figure. That’s exactly what hip augmentation can offer. What Is an Hourglass Figure? The hourglass figure is considered classic and timeless, and it’s the epitome of beauty and femininity. Women are said to have an hourglass figure when they have a low waist-to-hip ratio. Simply put, the female waist is typically much smaller in circumference than her hips. For women, this ratio is about 0.7, whereas for men, that ratio is 0.9. The entire purpose of a hip augmentation is to create a lower ratio and provide curves that did not exist before. Surgeons can use liposculpture or implants to create a beautiful hourglass figure. Option 1 – Liposculpture Liposculpture, simply put, is the act of taking fat from one area of the body and placing it somewhere else. Only patients who have enough natural body fat are candidates for liposculpture for this very reason. For hip augmentation procedures, surgeons will usually take fat from the abdominal area, then reinsert it along the hips to increase the waistto-hip ratio. Over time, your body will absorb about 30% of the fat injected into your hip area. The other 70% will remain on your hips permanently to give you the feminine shape you want. Liposculpture is performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent and complexity, and while most patients require only a single surgery, those who want more dramatic results may need a second procedure about six months after the first. Option 2 – Implants For patients who do not have enough body fat for liposculpture, or for those who are not good candidates for other reasons, implants may be a better option. In this case, the surgeon will insert silicone hip implants to create the impression of curved hips. These implants are much harder and sturdier than breast implants, so they will maintain their shape for a much longer period of time. The implants are inserted under the patient’s thigh muscles to help hold them in place and to ensure a more natural appearance. Implants come in various sizes, too, allowing patients to determine just how much extra volume they would like in their hips. This procedure requires general anesthesia, and it takes roughly an hour from start to finish to insert the implants under the thigh muscles. The healing period is longer than with liposculpture, too; complete healing takes four to six weeks, and patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise or labor for the first three. Hip augmentation is yet another way for transgender women to put their best and most feminine selves forward in the world. When utilized alongside breast implants and facial feminization procedures, the transformations that are possible are nothing short of amazing.
