T he RGB color mo del is an additive color mo del in which re d, gre en, and blue light are adde d to gether in various ways to repro duce a broad array of color s. T he name of the mo del comes f rom the initials of the thre e additive primar y color s, re d, gre en, and blue. T he main purp ose of the RGB color mo del is for the sensing, representation, and display of images in ele c tronic s ys tems, such as televisions and computer s, though it has also b e en use d in conventional photo graphy. Before the ele c tronic age, the RGB color mo del already had a solid the or y b ehind it, base d in human p erception of color s. RGB is a device - dep endent color mo del: different devices dete c t or repro duce a given RGB value differently, since the color element s (such as phosphor s or dyes) and their resp onse to the individual R , G, and B levels var y f rom manuf ac turer to manuf ac turer, or even in the s ame device over time. T hus an RGB value do es not define the s ame color across devices without some k ind of color management. Ty pical RGB input devices are color T V and vide o cameras, image scanner s, and digital cameras. Ty pical RGB output devices are T V set s of various te chnolo gies (CR T, LCD, plasma, etc.), computer and mobile phone displays, vide o proje c tor s, multicolor LED displays, and large scre ens such as Jumb oTron. Color printer s, on the other hand, are not RGB devices, but subtrac tive color devices (t y pically CMYK color mo del). T his ar ticle discusses concept s common to all the different color spaces that use the RGB color mo del, which are use d in one implementation or another in color image - pro ducing te chnolo g y.

Amusement The basic geometrical notion has been adapted in various ways to suit particular purposes. Mathematicians are often concerned only with the bounding closed polygonal chain and with simple polygons which do not self-intersect, and they often define a polygon accordingly. A polygonal boundary may be allowed to intersect itself, creating star polygons. Geometrically two edges meeting at a corner are required to form an angle that is not straight (180째); otherwise, the line segments may be considered parts of a single edge; however mathematically, such corners may sometimes be allowed. These and other generalizations of polygons are described below.
