CONTENTS
To me, architecture is about creating open spaces for citizens. I am inspired by the large courtyards that defined Taiwan’s structures in its early history; people developed relationships through these common areas, they were the focal point of each building.
Open spaces has often affect
the way how I design architecture.

DESIGN CONCEPT Frame Cohesion The transition of movie scenes is usually metaphorized into items, which allows audiences to connect those plots through what we saw. This trait was further integrated into the space allocation in my design, which can be seen in the following 3 diagram: 1. Space is divided to explicit visual conflict - such as dichotomous matchups (e.g. brightness vs. darkness, openness vs. narrowness) - to express/present the change of scenes/pictures. 2. Space is further cut more trivial, in attempt to strengthen change.
3. The different framed spaces is used to express individual pictures. When people walk among framed spaces, bystanders can link different spaces through their movement.
- 09 -
Exploration People watch movies within a particular frame, namely knowing the world inside the movie through the lens. This develops my design concept in exploring exhibition hall by which human eyes are likened to cameras. The concrete creation process are: 1. Shape individual spaces built on frame to arouse their people’s desire to explore/discover and walk adventure. 2. Separate the frame for more individual spaces. 3. Use flickering spaces to emphasize spatial variability.
Extensional vision According to the essence of films, scene coherence can be achieved through the fast slideshow of massive images. Since scene coherence depends on the slideshow of massive images, I weakened the block resulted from the objects which cut visual extensibility (i.e. cylinder or wall surface). In order to achieve the same fluency as we enjoy movies, three steps of special design emphases are placed on cylinder. 1. The weakening effect of pillar is made by slendering. 2. The pillar edges are surrounded by the reflection and characteristics of glass for better softening effects.
3. The diamond-shaped wall is used as the main element in my square design, whose slanting walls can form visual extensibility.

TRADITIONAL QUADRANGLE HOUSE The conventional Minnan style building consists of one atrium and long-shaped houses at three sides. The atrium with the vague boundary between public and private fields, has always been the center held for all important social public activities serving as external living room also the extent for daily life. The parks nowadays, by contrast, are more like urban living rooms. However, it’s pity that the parks under the urban planning is characterized by small areas and minority. Therefore, I intent to build traditional courtyard -like new public space to continue tender warm sentiment among people.

Water moisturizes the life, light illuminates the human civilization. Water mingles with light to form rainbow. The beauty of the rainbow is untouchable. Nowadays, the rainbow appears in the Rainbow Hospital to distractsyour mind from grief and releases your puerility .
- 24 -
Can an elevator take you to the rainbow? A roof extension of the original elevator in a hospital is proposed to bring a positive change for the patients. Waste water is recycled, cleaned and reused to spray from the top to form a mist. With a series of triangle glass arranged to the daylight angles, artificial rainbow effects are created on the platform. As the elevator ascends through the mist and the colors, touching a rainbow becomes a reality .

Hospital
Traditional hospitals are overwhelmingly white, a color which represents purity and cleanliness. However, interned patients often began to feel psychological pressure and a sense of tedium as a result of the long-term effects of constant exposure to this color. For this reason, we chose to enhance the patient’s experience through the use of a rainbow. We designed a park on the roof of the hospital for patients to seek relief from their tedious surroundings. Above this park, a vertical structure makes use of a large glass prism and mist drawn from an underground reservoir to create a rainbow effect.

The rainbow is an ethereal symbol of hope and renewal. In the ancient story of Noah’s Ark, a rainbow appears at the end of forty days and forty nights of constant rain that floods the earth. The rainbow represents a promise from God that the waters will recede, life on earth will continue, and the world will never again be destroyed by flood. Thus, a rainbow can serve as a sign to patients that their suffering is near its end and life will go on. The colors of the rainbow will be visible to residents outside the structure as well, so that the hospital itself, rather than being a symbol of despair, becomes a thing of beauty.
