Welcome to the
GRAPEVINE Your monthly FSS guide
We are pleased to present the newest publication from your 31st Force Support Squadron. We have revamped this monthly guide with you in mind and invite you to take part in our upcoming FSS events and programs. 31FSS is the 31st Fighter Wing’s largest and most diverse squadron — and our mission is to support YOU. If you’ve picked up your mail and then grabbed coffee on your way to pick up your kids from school, you’ve been part of our mission. Visited the library or worked out at one of the base’s fitness centers? That’s 31FSS. Stayed in temporary lodging as a newcomer or gotten advice or resume help from the Airman and Family Readiness Center? 31FSS. Explored Europe through our ITT trips or sought adventure in Italy through ODR? 31FSS has been there along the way. We employ more than 600 military and civilian personnel whose primary mission is to enhance combat capability, readiness, and quality of life for a community of nearly 10,000 military members, DoD civilians, local national employees, and dependents here at Aviano Air Base. Our goal is to support Aviano in becoming the #1 Fighter Wing in the Air Force. We do this in a variety of behind-the-scenes, yet crucial ways. We operate the second largest post office in all of USAFE, which in 2018 processed and delivered over 1,400,000 pounds of mail. Last year alone, 8,000 people were able to take college classes while serving our country overseas, and nearly 300 Airmen now have Community College of the Air Force degrees. And in 2018, La Dolce Vita (DFAC) won the John L. Hennessy Award, announcing to Airmen across the globe something we already knew; the #1 dining facility in the United States Air Force is right here in Aviano.
“People are our mission.”
We are proud of our team’s past accomplishments, and we are zeroing in on future opportunities. People are our mission — YOU are our mission. And together, we are steadfast as One Force, One Fight — All Day, All Night.

SrA Jordan Blue
11
The finance section in the Postal Service Center consists of three major areas: the clerk section, registered mail section, and COPE section. It is a fast paced work center that relies heavily on customer service and multi-tasking. SrA Jordan Blue is the best representative of the Postal Service Center’s finance section! SrA Blue stepped up to the plate when the finance section lost 75% of their manning, performing as NCOIC of the finance and registered mail section, as well as aiding his fellow teammates as a clerk and assistant COPE for two months. While providing excellent customer service to more than 7,000 personnel, he’s also lauded on a daily basis by his peers for his selfless dedication to the team and professional outlook. SrA Blue was awarded the post office’s Employee of the Month, and his loyal customers have given him many goodies and thanks, as well. He is the epitome of a great Airman and deserves to be recognized for all his hard work!

LIBRARY Our librarians have done some amazing things over the last few months – including opening up early on Tuesdays and Thursdays and encouraging parents to bring their toddlers over for Story Time after they drop off their older kids at school! A huge success was the Saturday Story Time – a unicorn party theme! Over 70 participated, bringing their unicorns to the party, and reading exciting stories. While Library Afterhours has always been a hit, Camp Half-Blood brought in 35 kids and their parents for some “capture the flag” fun. Our Tech Time in January using STEAM kits had a huge turn-out of future scientists and engineers, too. There’s always something new — and free — at our Aviano Library! Hats off to the Library Team on a job well done: Rachelle LaPorte (Head Librarian), Eric Knapp, Tania Battistetti, Darby Langford, Tina Hinson, and Michele Ferracciolo!
