KIDS&FUTURE THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY REPORT

2005년영문보고서-최종표지-8.11 2005.8.319:14AM 페이지2

Pride comes from love. Continuous love from the community, warm affection and educational opportunity will help disadvantaged children and youth grow up to be confident people who can love themselves and others.

Kids&Future will Try to achieve a world where all children can grow with happiness and a beautiful society where corporations share in their joy. Like a flower which offers its nectar to a butterfly, like a butterfly which helps a flower reach full blossom, Kids & Future will be a solid bridge to connect children with corporations’ love.

To share our love, to build their dreams and hope, to let them know the beauty of sharing and to help them to have confidence. These represent Kids&Future’s desire for children and youth. Shining faces of children and youth make Kids&Future happy.

Let us present this to you, who shares the same view as Kids&Future.

KIDS&FUTURE 5TH ANNIVERSARY REPORT

From the moment of our birth, we have been brought up with numerous supports from our society, with or without our awareness. Our parents and teachers, of course. Water, air, roads that we pass by, clothes that we wear, and trivial things we think naturally exist. All these things are created by somebody. Though we receive immeasurable help throughout our lives, it’s not easy to share.

The crystal-like smile of children is the bright future for us.

Life to share, happier life because of that sharing. In March 2000, People who wanted to achieve these kinds of lives gathered together. Kids&Future was founded by entrepreneurs who wanted to plant a seed of love to support children, to design and lead their lives more than merely to support them financially.

Dreams and hopes that were cherished in our hearts begin to bloom as beautiful flowers. Become flying doves from the tips of our hands. Such magic entertains us. Love, giving birth and sharing more love is a most amazing kind of magic that can bring us happiness.

The past five years of Kids&Future was like this. As soon as we practiced our affection and love, love changed our lives and society into happiness, like magic. Kids&Future would like to be a magician who will share more love with all of you.

Mission To help children and youth actively prepare for their futures by providing opportunities to learn, work and play with stability.

Vision To motivate children’s dreams and creativity, to brighten children’s futures through sharing and to contribute to children and youth around the world as a human service organization providing educational and professional programs to solve poverty and health problems of children.

Strategy To mobilize strategic partnerships with international foundations by striving to meet global standards in organization, business strategy and measurement systems, to invent trustworthy brand values by reinforcing networks and partnerships with donors and to expand a culture of philanthropy through professional and transparent operations.

Publication Message It’s been already five years since the social welfare foundation Kids & Future was formed as an independent nongovernmental organization to help children grow their dreams and hopes and challenge their futures. So far, Kids&Future, through projects in social welfare and education fields, has provided continuous support and educational opportunities to disadvantaged children so that they can feel confident and make their dreams come true and ultimately become great human capital who can return their love to our society in a virtuous cycle. Through professional and various welfare program developments and transparent operations, we have been leading a new culture of philanthropy connecting the nongovernmental sector and the social welfare field. Kids&Future’s continuous actions and commitment owes thanks to the support and consideration of many people who would like to make our society more beautiful through love and sharing. The precious love of all the people who support Kids&Future, even under severe social and economic situations, is the base of this endeavor, which has protected children and increased hope in our society. Kids&Future will try to do its best to restore the broken dreams and hopes of children and youth by gathering your warm support. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all corporate donors in Korea and around the world, numerous individual donors and all the people who serve in social welfare fields despite all the hardships, who have sent their encouragement and love. Please let me pass along my sincere gratitude again to our precious international partners, International Youth Foundation (IYF) and BizWorld Foundation. March 30, 2005 Social Welfare Foundation, Kids&Future Song Ja Chairman

I am sending you this message from Baltimore, but we are certainly with you in spirit. The international Youth Foundation is a Global network. We have successfully done some collaborative projects in Korea with Lucent Technologies in iTER camp programs, and Nokia in Make a Connection Program. To the trustees, staff members, all the supporters and especially the kids you have helped through out your 5 years, we wish you all the best, all along the healthy future. Thank you.

A Message of Congratulations I would like to express my sincere gratitude on the 5th anniversary of the social welfare foundation, Kids&Future. Kids&Future, an independent nonprofit organization that was founded by venture companies in 2000, has spent the past five years helping underprivileged members of our society. Especially, more than any other organization, it has focused its efforts on children and youth, our society’s future and hope. Kids&Future’s five years of effort has cultivated a new sharing movement in high-tech startups and been a guiding light so that new companies can play their social role. Especially, Kids&Future has been advancing projects with high standards with international nonprofit organizations since 2000 through its global partners. These actions are similar to today’s start-up company which aims to be a global star, showing its growing image in the world. With close relationships since the initial foundation period, investors had a special reason to be interested in Kids&Future, which resembles venture companies. We investors will keep our eyes on and support all the creative and ambitious actions of Kids&Future. Again, congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. I hope more and more business people join to add their love for Kids&Future. Chairman of Korea Venture Business Association CEO of Turbotek

Jang Heung-Soon

A Message of Congratulations Congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. Please let me applaud the social welfare foundation Kids&Future, which has been involved in and developed the community for children’s healthy smiles and their future. Children need the understanding and involvement of the community they belong to in order to become healthy citizens. We should help them connect with their community and have responsibility for it so that they will play their roles to make a sound society. I am sure that the success Kids&Future has achieved will become touchstones of our communities and nation. Especially, without Kids&Future’s effort, the Make A Connection Gong-Bu Bang Support Program, which Nokia Korea has been leading for four years, wouldn’t be able to exist. Many direct and indirect expenditures of the program have been big gifts to children and community. I am also openly proud that the program footprints have become good models to encourage corporate social responsibility in other corporations. Sincerely anticipating Kids&Future’s growing role in the situation of social welfare in Korea, which still suffers much exclusion from the supports of country and community, I express my heartfelt congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. Nokia Korea

A Message of Congratulations Congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. I would like to express my deepest respect to all in Kids&Future for their endless efforts for beautiful dreams and hopes for children. Since its foundation, Kids&Future has been discovering hidden social welfare gaps of our society and supporting disadvantaged children and youth to develop their bright and active futures through various programs. I believe that the sharing culture Kids&Future tries to spread step by step will play a great role in making a happier and warmer society. Especially, the iTER program which Kids&Future and Lucent Technologies Korea have been advancing from 2002 is recognized as a helpful program offering more educational opportunities to youth in Korea so that they can grow to be important members and leaders of our society. The beautiful values of Kids&Future have enabled this long term program to be successful for several years. Looking back on the past five years, I sincerely hope Kids&Future can share its values with more and more people and become Korea’s representative welfare organization to fulfill its social role. Again, congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. Lucent Technologies Korea

Sharing with Neighbors Project Sharing Five years under this beautiful name The past five years were such a happy period under the beautiful name, Sharing. The Sharing with Neighbors Project is for our precious neighbors who desperately want somebody’s help but are never helped by anybody. Kids&Future helps these social welfare facilities and organizations that have been excluded from support by government and regional governing offices. The Sharing with Neighbors Project supports group homes, shelters, and nongovernmental facilities for youth with disabilities and provides welfare services for underprivileged children, youth and people with disabilities. It also supports community welfare networking projects for the independence of community welfare centers.

Sharing with Neighbors Project A Message of Thanks If you open your heart to the world, you will find hope. When you are under hardship…. and it becomes a month, then a year and more than several years…. your world will be full of despair. A day to live as a person with critical disabilities… one day becomes the next day. That next day becomes a month and soon several years have passed. Sitting in the room, I wonder what would be outside the window and miss outdoor life. We miss almost everything. The scent of yellow flowers, the coolness of the river wind and the white snow that we had in days gone by. Our organization has been finding many new ways in the lives of people with critical disabilities to work with and help others, cherishing hope rather than despair. It was a truly pleasant and happy thing that we could proceed with Empowerment Friday Class setting up relationships with Kids&Future in 2004.

People with critical disabilities who have difficulties communicating with the world have become more involved with the society through Empowerment Friday Class. Their small beginnings in speaking with strangers and asking for a little help may seem as nothing but as they experience the program, they find the world more closer and comfortable by going to the market, the bank and movie theater by themselves or on a trip with other colleagues. Perhaps this may be a sign that they are finding themselves more connected to the world. For our friends-people with critical disabilities who use wheel chairs and communicate with somewhat uncomfortable body language and words-no more difficult scenes as in the past. Thank you to everybody who successfully completed Empowerment

Friday Class, trusting in themselves and their colleagues. Special thanks to Kids&Future for giving them a brand new hope through the Sharing with Neighbors Project. Nobody can talk easily. However, the world will be full of hope for our friends, people with critical disabilities whose smiles to the world gradually open their once closed hearts.

Rest&Recharge Program for Social Work Practitioners Network of workers through rest & recharge The Rest&Recharge Program brings social workers and volunteers with precious and beautiful hearts together. Social Workers and volunteers join with our underprivileged neighbors in poor working environments. Because of them, the world is more beautiful. Like each one of our disadvantaged neighbors is precious, workers and volunteers who care and are with them are precious as well. The Rest&Recharge Program for Social Work Practitioners supports workshop programs so that social&youth workers and volunteers can recharge their bodies and minds through rest.

Rest&Recharge Program for Social Work Practitioners A Message of Thanks Rest is a new creation and preparation for a new practice. People working in the community have their own hopes but it’s difficult to find opportunity for our own growth and development. Sometimes, when we feel it’s really hard to continue, we wish for refreshment. Kids&Future’s Rest&Recharge Program for Social Work Practitioners is a program like a ray of light, providing social workers just such a chance. Usually, donations are only for children and youth, not for social workers. Thus, sometimes we can see facilities fattening but practitioners slimming. I have been forming education sharing networks in the community with school dropouts, illiterate adults and foreign female migrant workers who have been playing important roles in Korean society. In the latter part of 2004, we went to community social education fields in the Philippines. Kids&Future’s support was like a jump-start, more than just a grant.

When we first went there and collected various materials in English for several community education sites, we put more priority on rest than recharge, thinking ‘What could be different overseas? Surely not too much… since we educate in Korea, the methods and philosophy that suit Korea should be within the country.’ However, our actual experience far exceeded our expectations. Though it was a busy schedule to visit two places in a day, we met people who gathered to make hope under more severe situations than those we were familiar with and were surprised to see more diverse facilities and methods than in Korea. Some places have an even deeper educational philosophy. Various ways-starting from poor people’s lives, educating them and embedding their thoughts and deeds into community educational programs-motivated us more

than anything. It was too short, yet a very precious opportunity. We rested but the rest was one that includes great effort. I hope this project can be given to more and more facilities so that they also can feel ‘We rested well. We were refreshed. We must rise again.’

Seoul Nambu Education Center provides educational programs for poor people in low income residential communities.

Daum Cultural Event Support Program Hope Creation through Getting Along, Sharing and Joy Me, my friends, neighbors and our generation`:`our culture of getting along together has been disappearing. Cultural events that youth, the disabled and other disadvantaged people enjoying together can hardly be found. Daum Youth Cultural Event Support Program has supported places to make hope through culture in the community. It provides one-stop service including planning, implementation, evaluation and future plans. From 2003, Daum Communications has been in full support of Kids&Future on the theme of ‘Getting Along, Sharing and Joy’.

Daum Youth Cultural Event Support Program A Message of Thanks Clap Your Hands for Amateur Motion Ah ha! When I think of Kids&Future, I smile. Kids&Future’s Daum Youth Cultural Event Support Project enabled Tum Sae (Gap-The small world that is seen through the Gap is beautiful), a small organization consisting of university students, to open a community youth cultural event. There were interesting stories when we were selected. When we were selected, we were really happy, as if we had won the whole world. We only had our passion and youthfulness, not knowing anything about sharing, welfare or youth culture, just knowing that we could not waste our lives. We just wanted to help disadvantaged youth in their study and cultural environment. Some people thought us too focused, yet for us, a new world opened;this is how Tum Sae Culture Festival was started. It was not easy, but a pleasant procedure, as only children and university students made our own efforts for a large scale festival over more than 150 days before we stood on stage for the first time! The 1st

Tum Sae Culture Festival ‘What Are You Doing? Clap Your Hands for Amateur Motion’ was launched at the 2,000-seat Grand Hall of Daegu Kyungbuk University, usually reserved for big concerts of famous stars, with our hope it could be children’s wish and dream. In 2004, Daum Youth Cultural Event Support also helped us to put on the Fusion Musical Performance with the theme of ‘Soaring for a New Start’ in Daegu Community, transforming the Tum Sae Culture Festival into a youth cultural event for their dreams and future. We gained confidence that we can stand on our own feet in the world. Several days later, we received comments and thanks from an Education Welfare government official at the City Education Office. The sounds of applause and excitement from the audience are still vivid. The most important lesson is that with our vision and dreams we really were able to soar through our event. Cheers of classmate, and applause of

Yoon Jin-Ho

Tum Sae

parents gave us encouragement to participate once again! We have gained and felt more than what we had expected in the 1st and 2nd events. Because we had to take mid-term exams in the middle of the event preparation period, we worried a lot, but in fact, our exam results got better. Our body has many parts:arms, legs, eyes, ears, a mouth and etc. As those parts comprise our body as a human, the character and talents of every human comprise society. We wish on 2005’s star for a society where nobody is left behind just because he or she is different.

Tum Sae (Gap-The small world that is seen through the Gap is beautiful) is a small organization consisting of university students helping disadvantaged youth by support study and cultural experience.

33

Make A Connection In early 2000, the International Youth Foundation and Nokia set up a partnership to realize common value by starting a youth support program to change youth and give substantial help, called Make A Connection. This program provides chances to make connections between family, friends, community and beyond to youth around the world through the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and Nokia. Make A Connection has improved the lives of thousands of youth around the world from its launch in April 2000. Currently, this Kids&Future program exists in 20 countries, including Korea, Brazil, China, Germany, Mexico, Poland, South Africa and UK. Each program in each country with the ultimate theme of Make A Connection has shown youth in each country what they really need by making youth support programs which can give substantial help to youth. In the future, the International Youth Foundation and Nokia will expand Make A Connection to many other countries. Nokia has not only provided financial support for Make A Connection but also have been involved in implementation of the program. So far, Nokia has invested more than 10 million USD into the Make A Connection program and management of Nokia has provided support in each country to choose its own localized program. Also, Nokia employees have participated as volunteers of the Make A Connection program in each country. The International Youth Foundation, a youth advocate organization, is one of the largest such organizations in the world. IYF’s worldwide partners are renowned children & youth welfare professional facilities in each country. They have developed and supported the most effective programs for today’s youth.

Gong-Bu Bang Support Program A Message of Thanks Hello! Congratulations of the 5th anniversary of Kids&Future. Fun Gong-Bu Bang is situated in Jinju, KyungSangNam Province. Fun Gong-Bu Bang has undertaken many programs with Kids&Future’s support for two years. We went on a Seoul excursion, watched movies and plays, made pottery, did yellow soil dyeing and went to a forest,‌. too many things to list here. Over the past two years we have happily done all the things that we wanted to do but could not normally do. The best was our Seoul excursion in the summer of 2003. We went to the 63 Building and to Seoul Land spending the most wonderful day. Again, thank you very much. I am sending the gratitude of our Gong-Bu Bang children. Paik Hye-Ri, Fun Gong-Bu Bang Head Teacher

March 7, 2005 Dear uncles and aunts at Kid&Future. My name is Jung min-woo. I went to Seoul Land in 1st grade. Riding the ferry over water was the most scary ride but also the most exciting. Thank you for letting me have such a fun time. Now I am 3rd grade. I need to learn English and know how to multiply. My favorite time is the Traditional instrument class and snack time. When you come to city of Jinju, please visit Fun Gong-Bu Bang. Bye. Jung Min-Woo in Do-dong elementary school

Kids&Future is so delighted to read the messages of Jung Min-Woo.

e-Mentoring The Daum Foundation and Daum Communications support disadvantaged youth interested in IT with e-Mentoring projects at four iTER Centers, to share the experience and wisdom of employees working in the front line of the IT industry. The e-Mentoring project matches one mentor and one mentee for programs including online counseling, online discussion and offline events, assisting the proper development of youth.

iTER Youth IT Support Project, A Message of Thanks iTER, our Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter The Story that Continues It’s been three years since iTER started in the summer of 2002 through the support of Kids&Future. Since iTER’s birthday is in the summer, it is celebrated with enthusiasm that resembles a summer fever. iTER’s beneficiaries come from youth of families below or slightly over the poverty line. They are excluded from parental care and various nongovernmental tutoring, which leaves them maladjusted in family and school or pessimistic about their future and themselves, studying at vocational high schools due to their low academic achievements. iTER has been designed to help these beneficiaries overcome the digital divide and prevent psychological social maladaptation when they become mature social members after high school graduation. iTER has been closer to them then any other friend or family member through computer training to eliminate the IT

gap, group programs to provide positive mental challenges to help overcome current emotional adversity, outing programs & camps to support harmonious human relationships and to solve the culture divide, youth club independence meetings to learn human relationship improvement and communication & problem solving abilities and case management for the family of each youth. When asked what iTER means to them, their answers are more than computer skills education. One student relates that somehow he has found personal transformation even though he does not know what it is exactly. Another student says her social character has been developed through the friends and teachers she met during iTER, and she built her own dream for the future. People usually determine their life attitude and future vision during their youth, and how they spend this period influences them significantly. They have to decide many things;this period is very

dynamic. Without the help of Kids&Future and its unique attention on youth which has supported them for three years, a rare long period in Korea, they might not have had the continuous care and timely intervention which have enabled them to decide on their job path and social direction. I express my sincere gratitude to iTER center and Kids&Future which together support youth vision and hopeful future. It feels like our hearts have passed through the winter and experienced a new spring and summer.

Kangseo iTER is a youth rehabilitation support center. It provides job search counseling and rehabilitation supports to youth of families below or slightly over the poverty line.

Visteon Children & Youth Worker Training Program A Message of Thanks Finding things that I have not found in the field‌ Whenever I think of my past school days, meaningful and precious memories make me happy. When I found the 2004 nongovernmental children& youth worker leadership training program, I was in great difficulty from finding myself burned out and feeling my intelligence and effectiveness draining away. Doubts about my dreams, that my ideal of social welfare might be just a fantasy, had built up to discourage me after ten years working in a nongovernmental juvenile delinquency facility. It was not easy to find the time but my courage drove me to participate in the program, believing that I needed something to fill a void within. In the first day of the first course, I felt my spirit lifted to see the cleanliness and magnificence of the venue. The bright

smiles and kindness of the staff shifted my mental burden to my colleagues in the facility who had to work harder to fill my absence. In each session, respected social welfare professionals gave suggestions that can be helpful to solve everyday challenges in the field more easily and strategically. They opened my vision and strengthened my heart with encouragement. The enthusiastic lectures of the professors taught me a lot. Another big gift that I received was my experience in the evenings, sharing with classmates who have devoted their lives in each region nationwide. Those conversations gave me a chance to rekindle my faded passion towards my dream, and to feel I am not alone.

Hoon Han Sang- h House Yout Nazharo

with enthusiasm, our supervisor, Prof. Park In-Sun, Kids&Future and Visteon for providing such good education opportunities to the people working to filling up the gaps which exist in the society.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the professors who taught us Nazharo Youth House is a shelter for youth harmed by society or family.

Independent Auditor’s Report Independent Auditing Organization : Ernst & Young

We have audited the accompanying statements of financial position of Kids & Future (the “Foundation”) as of December 31 2003 and 2004, and the related statements of activities and cash flows for the years then ended, all expressed in Korean won. These financial statements are the responsibility of the Foundation’s management. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audits. We conducted our audits in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the Republic of Korea. Those standards require that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An audit also includes assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. We believe that our audits provide a reasonable basis for our opinion. In our opinion, the financial statements referred to above expressed in Korean won, present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of Kids & Future as of December 31 2003 and 2004, and the changes in its net assets and cash flows for the years then ended in conformity with the financial accounting principles for private, non-profit, and social welfare corporations established under the Social Welfare Act of the Republic of Korea and, where applicable, accounting principles generally accepted in the Republic of Korea. February 16, 2005 CEO Oh Chan-Seok

Ask children what kind of person they want to be. Ask grown ups what are the standards of success. What would be the things that we really should give children, our society’s dream and future? The most precious gift for children would be the pride which helps them to understand their value and importance. People with pride can look upon themselves and their surroundings with a warm gaze. They can overcome hardships and challenges with continuous courage.
