Secret suppers are dining experiences choreographed by a talented team of hosts whose one mission is to provide you with an amazing dining experience through sight, sound, texture, and taste A recent secret supper experience at Maison Madeleine in Breaux Bridge Louisiana with Hosts Walter and Madeleine Adams did not disappoint.

Tucked right along the mystical shores of Lake Martin was our destination for the evening The ethereal cypress trees seem to be floating in the water as they command your gaze. The tone for this Secret Supper that seems to be hidden in time

Maison Madeleine has been a part of Louisiana History since the 1840s, just in a different location in Louisiana. In 1997, this historic home was moved to its location – in the heart of the Atchafalaya basin right next to Cypress Island Preserve. Walt and Madeleine lovingly restored the home and furnished it with amazing art and historic furniture. This home, which also is a bed and breakfast, has earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places This couple have perfected and orchestrated secret suppers at Maison Madeleine.

A leisurely walk down a landscaped path brought us closer to catching the first rich haunting sounds of a fiddle. The French Creole Cottage came into view, and were warmly greeted by the Maison Madeleine hosts, Walt and Madeleine Adams. The music drifted ever so gently off the covered porch and through the landscaped grounds.

The team from Wild Child wines, located in downtown Lafayette, welcomed us with a glass of rosé from Vending Machine Wines out of Napa, Ca. Owners Katie and Denny and Store Manager Yetta from Wild Child, provided all the wine pairings for the evening.

Amazing hors d'oeuvres were offered A smoked gulf fish mousse canape as well as duck poppers with peach pepper jelly teased our taste buds with a hint of what was yet to come.

We learned about biodynamic wines from Katie. Biodynamic wine is the product of winemaking with the lowest intervention possible. That means no chemicals to artificially nourish the soil, no pesticides for short-term crop defense, and no additives for post-harvest “corrections.”
