J36 Rural Auction Centre: January Online Machinery Sale International Interest at Popular Monthly Machinery Sale The opening online machinery sale of 2024 saw a wide range of items entered and offered for sale with an extremely successful sale achieved. 32 vehicles sold to £15,000 for a Toyota Hilux (18 reg) direct from a local farm with a Ford Ranger (12 reg) achieving £7700 and a Mitsubishi L200 (15reg) at £4200. Several collectable tractors forward sold to £3900 for a Ford 3000, £3800 for a Massey Ferguson 135, £1650 for Massey Ferguson 35 and £1250 for International 784 c/w loader. Other plant vehicles included a Bobcat 533 Skidsteer at £2000 and Kubota B4200 tractor at £2600. Keen interest on seasonal items saw a Conor 1600 tanker achieve £7200, 7T Tomber trailer at £4200, Protech Post Knocker at £3700, 10T tipping trailer at £3600, Slurry pump to £1750, West muckspreader at £1550 and PTO wood chipper at £960. Livestock trailers sold to £2700 for a 14ft Ifor Williams trailer, 10ft Ifor Williams at £2300, 12ft Ifor Williams at £1750, 10ft Graham Edwards at £1450. Other items of interest included a Taarup Tedder at £2600, Bale slice at £2000, Cattle crush at £1400, Kawasaki ATV at £1100, Concrete mixer at £920.

Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs and Cast Sheep. Monday 15th January 2024. Prime Hoggs 510 prime hoggs were put before Lancasters active ring side of eight buyers. An overall average of 270p/kg was achieved, which many more could have been sold to the vendors advantage. The sale peaked at £145 for Beltex hoggs from I Richardson, Catforth with Texels selling to £140 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Many pens of heavy continental hoggs were regularly £130 to £140. 42kg to 45kg export type hoggs looked the sharpest trade, with these regularly selling at 280p/kg to 290p/kg. The best being 43kg Texels selling to £132 from AG Butler, Hambleton. A ring full of Texel Mules at 43kg sold to £128 from S Ayrton, Thurnham. Best bred and butcher type hoggs saw the best achieve 320p/kg from I Richardson, Catforth for Beltexs, with Texels selling to 315p/kg from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Hill bred hoggs saw Mules sell to £124 from JW Cornall & son, Bleasdale with RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead not far behind at £122. Cheviots sold to £117 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. Cast Sheep The ewe trade saw all goods a sharper trade on the week, pure bred Texels sold to £178 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Strong first cross Texel ewes from S Ayrton, Thurnham sold to £133. A big show of Mule ewes saw the best pens sell to £112 from T&E Garth, Bleasdale with other pens to £110 from I Richardson, Catforth. The strongest pens of Mules were £95 to £105. Hill ewes saw a top of £100 for Cheviots from S Ayrton, Thurnham, with medium type Swaledales seeing a pen of twelve sell to £50 from M&L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Heavy well meated first cross ewes were generally £130 to £140, depending on quality and type. Mediums were £92 to £110 with leaner sorts £80 to £90. Cheviot Mules sold to £140 from R&E Ladds, Kendal with others at £129 from WR Clarke, Yealand and M Allen, Yealand. North Country Mules sold to £118 from D Wightman & A Mason, Burton with other heavier Mules regularly £98 to £105. The next draw down £92 to £92, with smaller meat £75 to £80. Pure hill ewes sold to £148 for Cheviots from Stockdale Farms, Sedbergh with other Cheviots achieving £140 from DR Harrison, Selside and £124 from JG&PH Thompson & Sons, Selside. Store Hoggs A keen interest in all classes of store hoggs, saw an overall average of £89 achieved with many vendors showing their last draw of the season. Strongest well bred hoggs were in exceptionally strong demand, selling to £145 for Texel cross from AT Threlkeld, Ulverston. Others sold to £130 from G GU&D Swarbrick, Meathop with full pens regularly £118 to £122. Longer keep pure bred lambs sold to £127 for Beltexs from T Crosdale, Clapham who also others at £119. Others were regularly £95 to £108. Medium keep cross breds were regularly £94 to £108, with longer keep hoggs £75 to £86, depending on quality and type. Mules sold to £111 for a full pen from J Brown, Ambleside and £105 from AT Threlkeld, Ulverston. A ring full of Mules achieved £104 from T Longton & Son, Quernmore. Medium Mules were frequently £86 to £94. Hill bred Hoggs sold to £88 for Gritstone from M&G German, Middleton with Herdwicks to £84 from Messrs Hodgson, Ambleside. Swaledales sold to £80 from GM Strong, Penrith, Dalesbred to £79 from RI Dixon, Grange Over Sands and Cheviot to £78 from J Brown, Hawkshead. Calves & Weanlings A lighter show of calves forward, as farmers take advantage of the cold weather for field work. The stronger end sold to £450 for a British Blue cross from MH&AR Robinson, Old Hutton with Aberdeen Angus cross to £445 from CR&A Baxter & Son, Middleton. Others were generally £380 to £420, with medium rearers £260 to £340. Dairy bulls sold to £120 for Montbeliardes from J&S Brakewell, Kirkby in Furness. Heifers sold to £375 for a British Blue cross from MH&AR Robinson, Old Hutton with younger Limousin cross selling to £250 from the same home, with other heifers generally £180 to £220. Store Cattle The store cattle trade went up another gear, with all bullocks today averaging £1496 and all heifers £1302. The sale topped at £2080 for a Limousin cross steer from PM&ST Entwistle, Abbeystead. Other strong steers sold to £1880 from M&RW Stirzaker, Milnthorpe, £1860 from AG Stafford, Out Rawcliffe, £1810 from ERJ&P Burrow, Milnthorpe and £1800 from H Chapman & Son, Middleton. Other were regularly £1600 to £1800. Native sired steers sold to £1800 for Aberdeen Angus cross from PM&ST Entwistle, Abbeystead with others at £1770 from KH&D Holden & Son, Pilling and £1760 from AG Stafford, Out Rawcliffe. Dairy bred steers sold to £1480 for Fleckviehs from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham and Montbeliardes from C&B Cummings & Son, Preesall with others at £1440 from A&T Smith, Longridge and British Friesians £1340 from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton. Beef cows sold to a top price of 269p/kg for a Limousin from B Heys, Mossborough, Bazadaise to 224p/kg from BD&PM Gill, Ingleton and Hereford to 194.5p/kg from A Rigby, Wigan. Other beef cows were regularly 180p/kg to 195p/kg. Top grossing this week achieved £1561 for a Limousin from B Heys, Mossborough. Dairy cows sold to a top price of 239.5p/kg for a young Friesian from D Fox & Co, Bay Horse with Holstein Friesian selling to 189.5p/kg from JT&B Fox, Quernmore and Montbeliardes 187.5p/kg from A&FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel. Other heavy well fleshed dairy cows were regularly 170p/kg to 180p/kg, mediums types 150p/kg to 165p/kg and cows direct out of the parlour 140p/kg to 150p/kg, with only the leanest and light weights less. Top grossing achieved £1520 from D Fox & Co, Bay Horse with others at £1518 from A&FM Bolland & Son, Ellel. Other heavy dairy cows were regularly £1250 to £1300. OTM beef heifers sold to 269.5p/kg for a Limousin from B Heys, Mossborough with British Blue cross to 259.5p/kg from AT Burrow & Son, Hornby with others regularly 220p/kg to 245p/kg.
