J36 Rural Auction Centre: June Online Machinery Sale.

The June collective online machinery sale saw one of the largest entries to date, with over 2000 lots entered with a highly successful clearance rate achieved. The sale peaked at £18,600 for a Massey Ferguson 5255 four wheel drive direct from a local farm, with other tractors to £5500 for a ford 5610 two wheel drive with loader and £3000 for a Massey Ferguson 240 two wheel drive tractor. A large number of vehicles were entered in this months sales, with pick-ups to £9000 for a 2016 Ford Ranger, £8600 for a ‘64’ plate Land Rover Freelander, 6100 Nissan Navara ‘16’ plate and £2800 for a Toyota Land Cruiser 2002. Several plant vehicles sold to £7500 for a three tonne dumper, £5800 for a 1.5 Kubota digger, £4500 for a Bobcat skid steer and £3200 for a Sanderson Telehandler. Well maintained seasonal equipment sold to exceptional demand, with Khun triple mowers at £7800, Claas tedder £7600, Khun tedder £5100, Vicon rake £4000 and Pottinger rake £3600. Over 100 trailers of all classes and types attracted nationwide interest, with an Ifor Williams sheep show trailer achieving £3500, Ifor Williams 14 foot livestock trailer £3200, Ifor Williams flat bed trailer £2800, Ifor Williams two horse trailer £2600, eight tonne tipping trailer £2300, 10 tonne silage trailer £2100 and Ifor Williams tipping plant trailer £1900. Other items of interest in this month sale included; John Deer ride on mower at £4000, Stiga ride on mower £2500, spearhead hedge cutter £2500, Kawasaki Mule £4400, sheep shower £2100, Flemming topper £1950, Honda ATV £1900, Bailey two birth caravan £1850, four stand shearling trailer £1500, Welger baler £1500, six pallets of green slate £1450, Mitsubishi forklift £1000 and Logic weed wiper £950.

Lancaster Auction Mart: Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs, Prime Hoggs & Cast Sheep. Monday 17th June 2024.

Prime Lambs

A lighter show of lambs were forward, which could be expected with the festival. Trade was sharper then first thought, with an average of 387p/kg achieved, for lambs ranging from 30kg to 57kg. A ring full of heavy Suffolks sold to £197 from G Sagar & Son, Caton with the same good home selling other pens to £185 and £184. Texels sold to £184 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Best bred lambs saw a ring full of Texel cross to 442p/kg from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham with Beltex to 440p/kg from KA Purtill, Wigan. Many more of the best were 405p/kg plus. Light weight lambs full of meat were in keen demand, with a pen of 38kg lambs selling to £168 from KA Purtill, Wigan.

More lambs are needed on a weekly basis, for our ever increasing ringside of buyers.

Cast Sheep

Less ewes forward selling to a sightly reduced trade, Texels sold to £140 from H Birkett & Son, Overton with Charollais to £135. Hill bred ewes saw Cheviot to £100 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. All types of ewes are required for next Monday, after the festival period.

Prime Lambs

The weekly sale of prime lambs saw 610 forward, as seen national a little less demand ringside with many outfits still busy with the festival. However a pleasing market average of 368p/kg was achieved. The best quality lambs were regularly 400p/kg plus. Topping at 412p/kg from C&J Bennett, St Michaels, with Beltex cross to 410p/kg from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington. Heavy meated lambs sold to a premium today, with Suffolk cross lambs to £209 from J Park, Witherslack and the same home selling other pens to £206. Beltexs sold to £204 from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake and Texels to £201 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington. Many Continental heavy lambs were regularly £180 to £200. Export type lambs (41kg to 43kg) were regularly 365p/kg to 375p/kg, with a pen of 41kg to £170 from TA Teasdale, Grange Over Sands. More light lambs were forward, with 38kg Texels to £149 from F&JM Mason, Mansergh with other pens to the same price from AE Atkinson & Son, Endmoor and a ring full of 36kg lambs to £141.

Well finished lambs both farm assured and VAN accredited met the keenest demand, with buyers now showing some resistance towards lambs not presented with a VAN / farm assurance number.

Prime Hoggs

100 hoggs forward with a pleasing demand seen from our ringside of buyers. Texels sold to £157 from T&E Burrow, Slyne who sold other pens to £150. Suffolks sold to £149 from R&J Dodgson, Natland with Mules to £141 from J&J Huck, Burnesie. Horned hoggs saw Dalesbred to £135 from DC Miller, Claughton on Brock who also sold Swaledales to £114.

Cast Sheep

As expected a few less ewes forward, with all buyers still ringside keen to fill and top up orders. Several of the best pure and heavy ewes sold to £214 on three separate occasions, with other stronger end first cross ewes £165 to £180. Mule sold to £149 with other stronger end £135 to £145, and mediums £118 to £130. No real headline makers from the hill breeds, with Swaledale to £104 and other stronger end £90 to £100. Herdwicks sold to £90, Dalesbreds to £86 and hill Cheviots to £86. Other smaller and leaner hill bred ewes were £40 to £55, with several at realisation.

Cull rams sold to £165 for medium Texels, with others generally £130 to £150. Business as usual next week, with a large number of all classes and types required to fulfil buyers demand.

Sheep with Lambs at Foot

The last sale of breeding sheep saw a small entry, with all selling to a pleasing trade. Aged Texel cross ewes with Beltex twins from CR Alderson & Son, Kirkby Stephen sold to £295, who sold single outfits to £225. We would like to thank all the vendors and purchased from the sheep with lamb sales, and wish them well with their purchases.

Calves & Weanlings

The weekly sale of calves and stirks again sold to a strong trade throughout. The best of the rearers reached £620 for a Limousin from MG&J Parker, Wennington with others from this home at £600. Charolais bulls sold to £580 from J&G Thornley, Kirkham and Hereford sold to £530 from TE&M Kidd, Ellel. A handful of dairy bulls were forward, which sold to £245 from J&G Thornley, Kirkham and £225 from JM&MH France, Littledale. The strongest dairy bulls were over £200.

A nice show of weaned bull stirks were forward, with these selling to £785 for a trio of British Blues from TD&A Gardner, Great Eccleston. Hereford sold at £760 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green.

Heifer calves today sold to a top of £425 for a British Blue from JP&C Robson, Garstang with others at £400 from this home. Heifer stirks sold to £525 for a British Blue from AW&AM Park, Ellel. Herefords sold at £500 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green.

Store Cattle

Plenty of heat in the store ring today, with steers to a top of £1800 for a British Blue cross from M Shepherd & Son, Pilling, Aberdeen Angus cross sold to £1720 from both L Parsons & Sons, Levens and JS Clark & Sons, Catforth. Other stronger end steers were regularly £1550 to £1700. Dairy steers sold to £1390 for a Holstein Friesian from LE&A Ridding, Selside with Montbeliarde to £1360 from J&JM Walmsley, Pilling. Younger steers saw 13 month old Charolais to £1400 from A&V&A Thornton, Cockerham, who also sold Simmentals to £1380. Heifers sold to £1710 for a pair of British Blue cross from R&DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling with others at £1660 and £1560. Aberdeen Angus cross sold to £1540 and with Limousin cross at £1530. Other stronger end heifers were regularly £1400 to £1550. 14 month old British Blue cross heifers sold to £1120 from GA&A Atkinson, Cantsfield. Several feeding bulls forward today, which sold to £1360 for Blondes from K Forrest, West Houghton, with Limousin cross to £1320 from GS Millburn, Dent. Next week’s sale includes the monthly sale of stirks.

Cattle

A few less cull cows about today, as farmers take advantage of the good weather to gather crops. Those forward were awarded with an extremely fast and competitive trade, with cull cows averaging 186p/kg, OTM heifers 218p/kg, OTM steers 227p/kg and cull bulls 215p/kg.

Beef cows sold to 224.5p/kg and £1838 for a Blonde from MJ Whitworth, Bolton le Sands with Limousins to 224.5p/kg from RG Woodhouse, Scorton. Other better end beef cows were 205p/kg to 220p/kg, with feeding types 219p/kg to 208p/kg. The best dairy cows sold to 221.5p/kg and £1858 for a Holstein Friesian from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with other better dairy cows 180p/kg to 195p/kg, with medium 170p/kg to 180p/kg and regularly grossing £1150 to £1300. 70% of the sale today being diary bred cows.

OTM beef heifers sold to 259.5p/kg for a Blonde from MJ Whitworth, Bolton le Sands and Aberdeen Angus from O Butler, Kirkham. Other beef heifers were regularly 225p/kg to 240p/kg. Top grossing beef heifer was an Aberdeen Angus from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe at £1571, who sold others at £1539. Diary heifers sold to 219.5p/kg for both Dairy Shorthorns and Holstein Friesians, with the top grossing diary heifer achieving £1317.

OTM steers sold to 254.5p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus cross from O Butler, Kirkham with others to £1839 from F&SG Sanderson, Woodplumpton.

Cull bulls sold to 227.5p/kg and £2295 for a Limousin from WM&JE Shuttleworth, Barbon with prime Stabiliser bulls to 249.5p/kg and £1442 from M Allen, Carnforth.
