Framing Class

Saturdays: July 13, August 17 & September 14

10am-2pm • $35

Learn the basics of how to frame your own artwork. You will learn how to cut a wooden frame, single and a double mat, glass, and foam core as well as how to assemble and finish the entire picture frame. Bring your own 5x7 picture and create a frame with us. Once you have had the class you can use the frame shop tools to complete your own framing projects. Limit four students per class.

Paint Pouring (SAI & DAP)

Fridays: July 19, August 16 & September 20 • 6-8pm

$5 per student

Single Airmen and Deployed Affected, come to the Arts and Crafts Center for an evening of fun and relaxation as we create a unique one-of-a-kind piece of art. Paint Pouring is the art of pouring different colors onto a canvas creating random patterns and a beautiful piece of artwork. Create a 16x20 inch canvas in this relaxing evening class.

Cake Decorating

Saturdays: July 20, August 10 & September 14 • 11am-1pm

$15 per student

Learn many cake decorating methods as we teach the Wilton Method of cake. Students will provide their own cake or cupcakes and frosting. The cake decorating supplies are provided by the Arts & Crafts Center.

Come and learn how to string beans onto wires and make a pretty necklace and bracelet (time permitting) in this fun class. All supplies and use of tools is included.

NEW! Sunburst Basket

Friday, August 23 • 6-9pm

$35 per student

Create a beautiful, coiled basket with a decorative thread pattern in this class. Learn the techniques and then put them into practice as you create a one-of-a-kind basket. All supplies and instruction are included.

$30 per student

Have you ever wanted to venture into the realm of felting? You can learn the basics during our felted mushrooms class. Learn the basics as we create three individual mushrooms you can use for a wide variety of décor. Includes all supplies and instructions.

Auto Car Care Class

Thursdays: July 18, August 15 & September 19 5-7pm • $20 per student

Learn the basics of caring for your own vehicle during our 2-hour car care class. You will learn how to change the oil, check fluids, rotate your tires and much more in this once monthly class. Classes vary month-to-month so check with Auto Hobby at 520-228-3614 to see what this month’s subject is. Classes are limited to three students to enable the students to work on their own vehicles and receive guidance.

Every Wednesday in September, all Air-Force active duty members and their dependents can come claim a free bucket of 100 golf balls to use at the Outdoor Recreation Driving Range.

Trips Policies

Our refund policy allows you to cancel your trip reservation by 5pm on the date that the trip registration closes for a full refund. If you cancel after that time, you will forfeit your payment, unless your spot is filled by someone on the waitlist. If you wish to cancel, you must notify Outdoor Recreation staff no later than the date given at the time of registration.

Come to Outdoor Recreation and take a look at the stars. You will have the chance to look at our galaxy through high-powered telescopes and learn more about how our universe works.

Salt River Kayaking

Saturday, July 27

There is no better way to enjoy the cool water, escape the summer heat, and marvel at the beautiful wilderness that is the Tonto National Forest than to go kayaking on the Salt River! Launching from Saguaro Lake Ranch, you will paddle down the Salt River (2.5 hour trip) below beautiful scenery. You could see wild horses, deer, great blue herons, osprey, bald eagles, and other native wildlife. Transportation provided.

Horseback Riding

Saturday, September 7

This horseback riding trip is an enjoyable activity for everyone…regardless of skill level. This leisurely horseback riding adventure presents the perfect opportunity to experience desert vegetation and wildlife up-close and personal. Saguaro and prickly pear cacti line the mountain trails and blanket the rest of the natural desert landscape. This ride is 1.5 hours in length. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required and there is a 250lb weight limit. Transportation is not included.

Reid Park Zoo: Behind the Scenes

Saturday, September 14

During this 60-minute adventure, you will learn how Reid Park Zoo uses proper nutrition and health care to provide quality, whole-life care to its animal residents. Your experience includes visits to the Animal Health Center, Zoo kitchen, and rhino habitat. During a special close encounter with the rhino, you will discover the importance of animal training for completing daily health checkups. Transportation is not included.

Bisbee Queen Mine Tour

Step into the fascinating world of mining as you don your hard hats, miner’s headlamps, and safety vests, preparing for an adventure beneath the surface. Each year, 50,000 visitors descend into the depths of the Queen Mine, immersing themselves in a journey that transports them back in time. Led by knowledgeable and passionate tour guides, you’ll venture a remarkable 1,500 feet into the mine, where tales of mining days, techniques, dangers await. Transportation provided.

Employment Track*

Assists service members and their spouses to further launch a civilian career. This class offers hands-on exercises to practice job search skills. This course covers in-depth training to build effective resumes, learn about federal hiring, network with contacts using technology, develop interview skills, and learn how to evaluate a job offer.

An Air Force Aid Society sponsored program facilitated by Military & Family Readiness Center staff and the New Parent Support Program. After this two-day workshop, you will have created a Feasibility Analysis Deliverable that will serve as the basis for future business planning efforts.
