Study Plan for CCS I am Chia-Chi Lin. This year, I am glad to have this opportunity to write a few words about my desired program

in CCS Industrial Design Department and my future prospects. First, my study at National Kaohsiung Normal University has further my understanding in the field of industrial design. I get GPAs 3.85 in my college major

studies. Moreover, I am most interested in subjects such as design psychology, creative thinking, and multi-materials drawing. These classes train me to think and act my projects intuitively and unconstrainedly. As a result, my imagination and hard work make my projects easy to understand and look colorful.

This is a turning point of my study life, and I want to give it a great start in College of Creative Studies Product

Design department. CCS is my best choice. Its design department is well known around the world, especially toy

design. Becoming a great toy designer is always a big dream for me. I truly believe that to be a good toy designer,

he or she should have a childlike heart. For me, despite I am a 21 years old adult, I still have a childlike mind. Since 2016, I have a special working experiment with kids aged from 4 to 12. As a drawing teacher, I teach them how to use multi-materials to enjoy their drawing classes. Such as use chopsticks with paint as a pen to draw whatever they want or use glitter to decorate their paintings. Sometimes they may act out of control, running around or keep scratching their bodies in class. My solutions are to figure out their physical or mental problems, and

patiently deal with them in kid’s way. For example, the boy who always scratches his nose is because of the

allergies. I figured out that the stive of pastel makes his skin ill. So I told him to draw softly. ”Hey! The paper may hurt if you scratch on him too hard!””Oh, sorry”This boy smiled sweetly. After that day, he seldom scratches his nose in class. In this classroom, I enjoy the time I spend with kids, discovering their need and try my best to be their good friends not a serious teacher. Finally I win these kid’s hearts. Because of this experiment, I strongly

desire to become a toy designer, because the view of kids’smile is unforgettable, I can’t wait to see those kids play toys I design and smile so joyous someday.

03

With my industrial design skills and passion, I believe I can learn specific knowledge and innovative thinking from

professors and classmates in CCS. CCS students can apply the internship for Tomy which is the most famous toy company in the world. I extremely believe after I finish study in CCS, I am mature and skillful enough to enter the famous

traditional wooden company THE CARPENTERS in Taiwan. Even though there is no toy department in this company, I am eager to be the starter to create wooden toy department. I believe that there is no material more suitable than wood to

be made of toys. In the future, Due to my hard work, Taiwan is more likely to design nature and interesting toys. Kids can enjoy happy childhood ever after.

I have still great thirst for more education in design. In CCS, there are many good resources for design student to use;

such as, the mental shop, the computer labs, the paint shop, and the image center. The computer labs open for 24 hours, it is really convenient and thoughtful for students to use. What’s more, I have keen interest in learning how to spray my

projects well. In Taiwan, most of schools lack of equipment to teach students spraying their projects properly. Above all the resource in CCS, students can learn from those master workers in every shop. It is really a valuable learning experiment in life!

To sum up, during my previous study in college, I got totally GPAs 3.85 excellent grades in industrial design and TOEFL

ibt 87. My English presentation is confident and fluency. Most importantly, I have strong interest to be a designer,

especially toy designer. CCS product design department is a perfect place to make my toy designer life come true! I will be grateful if you please consider my application to study at your esteemed institute. Best Regards,

Background research

Taiwanese suite generally does not have kitchens. However, live in the country with high-cost of food, it will cause a heavy burden on the economy if eat out every day. The only way to lower the cost and satisfy the body is self-cook.

The food safety problem makes many people who live in small suites such as student or single working group begun to cook by themselves. But most of the suites doesn’t have space for a kitchen to cook, and it will cause many

problems like the supplies would scatter everywhere, hard to prepare the food, especially the air is stuy. 70% of the people said that it will increase the self-cooking opportunities if there are no cooking fumes.

11

Background research

According to TIME magazine, about 20% of pre-school children are picky eaters around the world, and those picky children

suffering from depression are twice as high as none picky children when they grow up. Picky eaters were easily criticized by

parents in childhood which affect the mental development, lack of self-confidenceetc. and cause they do not want to try the food again after growing up. The dietary habits will also affect the next generation and cause result in a vicious circle.

Pipes generate power 2016 IF student design awards / Top 300

28

Background research

We are looking for new possibilities for home power generation-- Domestic water often ow into pipe after used. There are many pipes hide behind the wall at home. Is that

possible to make water reused in the water pipe and generate the energy and support the household electrical energy?

29

How WELL SAVE works

“WELL SAVE”is the power generating system by a small stream of water. The size of WELL SAVE’s fan blades is fitted at water-pipes in every household. Based on the equation“P

(power) =1/2*p (water density)*A (blade area)*V (velocity)”. WELL SAVE can turn the kinetic energy from water into electricity to support the power system at home. The device only

shows the amount of energy remaining so that it doesn’t consume additional power. The exterior of WELL SAVE is in white, to fit in with the color inside of the house.

32

Benefit

1. Save little for more: utilize on all the water-pipes in the house to be power generator. 2. Simple structure: easy to install and easy to fix.

3. Environmental friendly material: the blade of the fan is made of PLA. 4. Low cost: with efficiency.

5. Additional benefits: generating electricity while using water. 6. Water Proof: for a safty purpose.

Background research

The express delivery services have risen up in recent years. Taiwanese postman and courier need require high mobility

shuttle in the streets. The general post motorcycle has installed a load space in the back seat, and the smaller package is

hanging on the two side and often wrapped with rope. The equipment not only failed to achieve the best delivery eďŹƒcien-

cy, the way of bundled the package also easily cause the drop risk. How to create a fast and convenient delivery is what we need to think about.

53

Team Thinking process

Situation: Future postal center and vehicles will digitalize and implement the task

1.The post vehicles mission: The last mileage (The last short-distance delivery in time)

2. Add “Smart Container" for postal vehicles to increase the speed of the replacement package.

Daily problem

Do you have the experience misapply the body wash to wash hair?

I do. Often cannot distinguish the bottle solution after taking off the glasses during the bath, also cannot easily read the

text on the bottle because of the water into eyes. However, the shampoo, body wash, and conditioner bottle are similar, it is difficult to correctly distinguish and use. It is more difficult to read the text on the bottle for the visually impaired population...

Anton Alvarez Installation Art WorkShop It was a special opportunity to work with Anton Alvarez.

We created a huge installation which was made of colorful cotton threads.

At first the threads were twisted from first flour to the 7f; however, the threads seemed not look well. Eventually, we cut it off.

88

Human-Computer Interaction Workshop It was really a hard time for my teammates and I to create a door in 2116.

We designed a door which could let parents and kid understanding each other.

Teenagers often refuse to talk with their parents, they close themselves in their rooms. Parents will feel

depressed and worry about their kids. Our team create Moment, which is a door that can detect kid’s feeling. These feeling data will show on the door(people touch to feel the emotion of kid’s heart). Parents can figure

out when is the best time to talk with their kids, avoiding misunderstanding and quarrel between each other.
