2. Majuli : Another gem of Assam, Majuli is a river island on the mighty Brahmaputra, where it intersects the Kherkutia Xuti. The huge culturally diverse population is primarily known for the natural food it produces and consumes, and the handicrafts designed here.

3. Loktak Lake : In Manipur lies the largest freshwater lake in North East India, with ‘phumdis’ floating on its waters. These heterogeneous masses of vegetation, soil and organic matter are home to fishermen staying in ‘phumshongs’. It has recently come to public attention due to the government’s hydropower generating activities in this site, and the tourist facilities which have recently made available.

4. Unakoti Hills : Rock carvings and stone images of gigantic proportions adorn the greenery of Tripura. Unakoti – one less than a crore – is privy to a legend and consequently has thousands of pilgrims visiting this site during the Ashokastami mela in April who breathe in the beauty of Shiva and Ganesha sculptures.

5. Ujjayanta Palace : Dubbed by Rabindranath Tagore, and converted into a museum recently, the palace changed hands from the royal family to the government a few years back. Nevertheless, the beauty of the place is breathtaking – set aside on a lake, it towers in a shining white amongst acres of greenery.

6. Living Root Bridge : Strong roots of trees are ‘tree shaped’ together to form this ecological marvel. These intertwined bonds can hold the weight of up to 50 people at a time, at its fully functional state.

7. Elephant Falls : The Ka Kshaid Lai Patend Khohshiew – Three Step Waterfall, the milky waters flow in stark contrast to the giant rocks behind it. Named after a rock shaped like an elephant, the falls are a favorite picnic spot for tourists.

8. Kisama Heritage Village : A set of traditional Naga houses and youth dorms (morungs) is nestled amongst the cover of nature. It is also the stage for the tribes to present their culture, during the annual Hornbill festival.

9. Mawsmai Cave : The highlight of the longest cave in India, Mawsmai is a delightful display of stalagmites and stalactites hidden behind a beautiful waterfall.
