Houtong
[ History of Houtong ] Mountain/ Coal Mine/ Cats
Houtong was a small village located in the moutain.During the Japanese colonial era, They found the rich mineral resources here. Then Houtong started its prosperity. After the decline of mine industries, Houtong became depressed. But recent year, after the hard work of Locals and government. [Houtong coal mine ecolo -gical park]was open, to show the history of Houtong and Taiwan’s mine industry. Nowadays, Houtong is also known by the wild cat which lives there.

Mining Prosperity the populationof this small village increase to 4000. 80% of them are miner.

1971 民國60年
Many more peole moved into Houtong. Population increase to 7000.
1990 民國79年
Mining industry decline Most of the Resident lost their job. People started to move out
2008
民國97年
Now the population of Houtong are 1302. People who really live here are less then 1000.

由居民來培植貓草 由可則可將貓草種植 在觀光截點的牆面上 藉此來強化觀光領域 同時吸引貓隻
利用居民的經驗與遊客一 起做一到同時適合人貓享 用的料理，飽餐一頓的同 時也能享受餵貓的樂趣

使居民、遊客及短居者共 同參與在貓村計畫的演進 及討論中。
創造一個開放的討論空間 讓遊客避雨或休息的同時 能夠參與討論或是留下遊 歷貓村的心得。

We always hope that we could make some local friends during travel.After all.Locals of attractions are always thos who know the place most well. In Houtong, also be known as the cat village,the relation between tourists and residents have no connection. To fix the relationship and make better experience while traveling Houng is our primary goal.Here’s our tourism rebuild project.
