District Dialogue Bi-weekly news from the Laveen Elementary School District Desert Meadows, Rogers Ranch students participate in virtual reality science lessons The zSpace mobile learning lab visited Desert Meadows and Rogers Ranch schools this week. Students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on augmented reality and virtual reality-based learning experiences. Wearing 3D tracking glasses and using a stylus, students examined the human heart, analyzed Newton's laws, and observed the life cycle of the butterfly.

National School Breakfast Week a success National School Breakfast week was held the week of March 10. Over 12,000 breakfasts were served in this one week across the district — that is a 38% increase in breakfast participation over the week prior. Vista del Sur saw the greatest increase of 71%. Trailside Point had the greatest student participation with over 1,800 meals served during the week. Breakfast is served free to all students each morning before school.
District honored for public relations efforts Laveen was recently honored by the Arizona School Public Relations Association for excellence in public relations. The district received an Award of Excellence for communicating information on the opening of Paseo Pointe School, an Excellence in Electronic Media Award for Paseo Pointe’s promotional video, and an Award of Distinction for providing factual information on the override.
State testing begins April 17 Laveen schools will begin administering state achievement assessments April 17. Students in Grades 3-8 will take Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT). The AzMERIT test measures students’ skills in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Students in 4th and 8th grade will continue to take the AIMS science test, in addition to AzMERIT. Students who are enrolled in an Algebra or Geometry class, will also take an AzMERIT end of course (EOC) assessment. Thanks to the continued support of our community, Laveen School District will administer the AzMERIT assessment via its online platform. .

Valles, Seechoma are March’s Employees of the Month Employees of the month for March were TaniaMaria Valles, Spanish Teacher at Laveen School, and Kaila Seechoma, Desert Meadows Instructional Associate. Valles holds a special bond with all students who enter her class. She is quick to celebrate the successes of her students no matter how small. Every student feels important and cared for. She promotes cultural awareness through her hallway bulletin boards and gains the attention and respect of students by making them personal and providing a connection. She communicates well with parents, sending home letters explaining the cultural significance and community connection her assignments have. Valles Seechoma Seechoma takes great pride in her work. She provides quality instruction, builds a good rapport with the students, and will drop anything to help teachers. She is very cooperative with everyone on campus and gives her all every day. She is concerned about student success. She monitors the growth of students and communicates with teachers to let them know what is working for each individual student. She is always seeking ideas to support her students’ growth and seeks direction from teachers and coaches when working with her groups.
