Haley Ross Project #2 Visual Merchandising October 28, 2014 Retailers The retailers I chose to feature Jeff Koons bust forms are Nike and Louis Vuitton. I chose these two retailers because they are vastly different from each other, but they are both extremely relevant in pop culture today. I chose Nike because I think it would be really interesting to create a Jeff Koons-inspired for a sportswear retailer. Nike has become more than just a sportswear brand; it has found its way into pop culture and is now seen as fashion. Nike clothing and shoes are not strictly being worn during exercise anymore; people wear sportswear on a daily basis now and it is considered fashionable. Nike customers not only purchase the merchandise because it is high-quality sportswear, but also because it is now considered “cool” in popular culture to wear Nike whenever you want regardless of if you are an athlete or not. I think that Nike customers would appreciate a Jeff Koons collaboration because his art is created from pop culture and would therefore be very relatable for a Nike customer. It would also be an interesting way for Nike to crossover into the art world and expose their customers to another side of pop culture. Nike displays tend to be more simplistic and futuristic, so I have to keep that in mind when creating the bust form in order to incorporate Jeff Koons, but stay true to the Nike aesthetic. I chose Louis Vuitton because their window displays share some similar qualities with Jeff Koons art work. Louis Vuitton windows tend to be very whimsical and quirky. They aren’t afraid to be experimental with their windows. Louis Vuitton also likes to use a lot of bright color
in the window displays. They also love to utilize scale and make things very large in the displays. So I think the Louis Vuitton customer would love to see a Jeff Koons bust form because they are already attracted by quirky windows and aesthetic of the brand. It is also a great pop culture collaboration, which would attract a lot of attention for both Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons.
