About Me
I’m Ko_Chen, Chang, with 3.5 years working as an industrial designer and a decade of professional design education. I’m focused on product design and furniture with innovative ingredients of design elements. From my perspective, a good design product can create value and also include three elements: story, material, and user. Care and accuracy in the design process show respect towards the user. I have highly interesting in industrial design, and I believe that is the driving force that makes me want to do better. Now, I’m ready to move on and start a new chapter.

Background With the increasing progress of notebook computer technology and the existing notebook computer architecture, many manufacturers have begun to think about the innovation of notebook computers. Apple and Asus have changed the current keyboard configuration to provide users with a second screen and more diverse display content. The secondary screen can be used as a keyboard shortcut or expand the main screen, allowing the laptop to have a dual-screen experience. They opened up new markets for the introduction of second screens and small screens. The small screen integrated with the keyboard provides shortcut keys and custom function keys, allowing users to experience greater flexibility. Gradually change the way people interact with computers, from physical buttons to sliding touch user experience.
Identify Problems Nowadays, laptop screens are facing inwards. Once the laptop screen is closed, the user cannot see the display content on the net. If the user wants to retrieve the screen content quickly, he must open the laptop screen.
Privacy : Private notifications at a glance on the main screen.
Confusion : Computer information has no timely feedback function.
Limitation : The auxiliary screen function is single and limited to the keyboard.
Cumbersome process : Need to turn on the screen and wait for it to start.

Concept Using a second screen and rotate structure solves four familiar problems of notebook users and makes the operation intuitive and straightforward. Important messages are not missed and can quickly retrieve with privacy.
A new solution: The rotating second small screen Add a small screen that users can use to view messages and set shortcut keys. An external display secondary screen allows users to retrieve data when the laptop is closed. When the screen is in use, it also rises with the screen, convenient for users to read and operate.

Illustration and description
The direction adjustment structure is designed around the hinge and linked with the upper cover to cooperate with the user to use the angle rotation, and the top cover slot provides the correct position so that the auxiliary screen can display at the exterior surface.
The rotating second small screen respectively locked hinge components on the screen and the system side. When the two ends rotate relative to each other, the gear set will turn with the lever to lift the small screen.

Background The article from Forbes said that 722% growth in transportation services, such as taxi services, from 2000 to 2017. Also, 44 million workers—or 28.2%—were self-employed at some point during a given week in 2019. This trend is spreading globally, especially the self-employed driver. Technology development has made it easier to run a freelance business. Nowadays, transportation equipment emphasizes speed, safety, and functionality for smart payment devices. Even though many drivers have recently invested in connected smart devices that can operate from their smartphones or through voice activation, but they're still looking for convenient payment devices and efficient ways to use security systems. According to this demand, there comes payment-S product design and ideas.

Self-employed drivers : TAXI driver and Tour guide
The problem ①
The function-oriented credit card machine mostly makes the appearance of “large and bulky imagery”, causing inconvenience to carry and the problem of no place to put it in the car.

Develop inspiration
"Business Fashion & Payment Function" "Business Sense"-Incorporate a sense of stability and professionalism into the appearance of the product.
The polygonal shape implies that the product has a solid structure. The angle changes produce rich light and shadow effects, a clean and neat body, and the use of interior elements, such as dashboards, leather seats, navigation equipment, travel recorders, etc. Make "Payment-S" is not obtrusive and perfectly integrated with modern car interiors.

When "design thinking" and "practical field" are intertwined, a design journey of "five sense exploration" begins.
From the establishment of the Matsu National Scenic Area in 1999, because of its rich military bases, Matsu has the "excellent universal value" necessary for the World Heritage, and in 2010 it was listed as a site with the potential of World Heritage by the Ministry of Culture. “IF MATSU” discovery pack is a cultural carrier that conveys the charm of Matsu, leading the world to see the military-style on the front line of the battlefield, discovering the changing battlefield culture through the five senses, and intervening through exploration packages, connecting local sightseeing and brand marketing, and letting the travel process bit by bit. Design process - Double diamond
We define IF MATSU as an exploratory travel package that combines the three creative elements of "local elements", "charm traits", and "interactive experience" to have a dialogue with Matsu's "battlefield culture". Through IF MATSU, travellers can explore the island's charm in depth. From different perspectives and angles, they will start the prelude to the exploration journey, visit the field, talk with the locals, read the historical materials of the past, and walk into the Matsu culture.
The IF MATSU discovery package was developed based on design thinking and has recursively undergone five main processes: Field observation. Definition. Concept development. Rapid prototyping. Testing.

Color thermometer
The "Quiet Island" combined the material of the bunker built and with the high and low geographical features of the Matsu Islands, giving a comprehensive view of the Matsu Nangan Island. In conjunction with the introduction of the background story of the township, it is a complete guide for travellers in-depth history of the past.
The "colour thermometer" allows travellers to gain insight into the colours of Matsu and see the uniqueness of each season. Colours discover beautiful perspectives that thrill your heart and use colours to record travel stories.
Space-Time Telescope
Island palette
The "Space-Time Telescope" visits usual scenic spots, zooms in and extends the view of passengers through the telescope, and sees the scenery of soldiers guarding the country in the past, and the new Matsu after the translation of modern culture.
The beauty of the colours, with different viewing times, angles, and seasons, shows various colours to colour your Matsu colour through pastels on paper or three-dimensional maps.
Memories of Matsu
Good Food and Have Fun
The military relics left over from the old era, humans and nature continue to portray beautiful textures on the island of Matsu, and they are visiting through the "Memory of Matsu" portable gadgets. The virtual and the reality integrated to collect and record the unique texture of Matsu.
The island is conder with rich local food culture and history, surrounded by the sea and the living characteristics of the island. We use the local dialect to combine local energy to look forward to every visitor's visit through the "good food and have fun". With a selection of 30 standard terms used in daily food and travel, you can hear the most authentic pronunciation immediately through the scan of your mobile phone and taste the purest cuisine most locally.

Discover The industrial revolution allowed everyone to have popular commodities, but at the same time, they also wanted to seek differences in the same and show their desire for items with unique personal characteristics. Because leather features create individual works, it is impossible to replicate the same attributes in large quantities at the same time. That is because each piece of texture is different; this material is rich in creative value.
Learn by doing I think the charm of leather craftsmanship has the following three points: 1. Unique material texture and diverse processing characteristics. 2. The flat materials can be converted into 3D works by the technique. 3. Use your own hands and brain to plan out works.

Trying process In the beginning, we were not familiar with the leather moulding process, so we encountered difficulties in mould making. In in-depth discussions with colleagues, I actively seek solutions. In addition to adjusting the mould, I also tried the effect of leather thickness on the moulding. The result is that we have found the most suitable way to maintain the structure and shape I want.

I get the greatest inspiration from the material leather itself. The leather feels warm, energetic, and protective. Based on the design of lamps and lanterns, through material toughness and craftsmanship. Compression moulding will create new structures and surface textures, and the concept expects to discover new and exciting opportunities.
The lamps and lanterns can create the atmosphere of the indoor space through the reflection of light, flickering hopeful brilliance. Light refraction creates a visual focus and a looming light source, which arouses the curiosity of exploration.

Prototype Processing
1. Make a testing mould
When using a 3D printer to print the upper and lower moulds.
2. Prepare the leather
Vegetable-tanned leather is used, which has good softening properties.
3. Cutting
Cut the size of the moulded leather.
4. Soak the leather
Soak the leather in clean water until it softens. The soaking time must consider the complexity of the finished product and the thickness of the leather.
5. Compression mould
Take out the soaked leather, use a dry cloth to absorb water on the surface, put it into the mould and pressurize it with a clamp.
6. Demoulding
After pressed to the shape, place it in a ventilated place for drying.
7. Finishing
Cut off the excess leather, and polish the edges.

A new armrest structure About this concept, focus on the chair armrest structure and material improvement. Provide a variety of modular quick-release structural accessories, flexible changes for different user habits, meet the needs of further use and bring unique appearance and convenience to the chair.

Shape The oriental chair shape brings out a scholarly atmosphere. The social background of the prosperity of the Ming Dynasty culture makes the furniture style fresh and straightforward, showing the spiritual world of the literati. This elegant and generous cultural connotation can shape a simple and sleek design style. And the design of the armrest can add the structure of the accessories through the combination of different materials to increase the appearance details and the strength required to support the accessories.

Voluminous research is indispensable in order to clarify the design objective, including stakeholder analysis, usage occasion, related regulation, etc. In addition, contextual interviews are most important during this phase.
The research was further fleshed out with an in-depth study of existing products on the market - analysing their style, positioning and functionality. And find out more about the future product trend, combine the target group's needs, and find an appropriate design entry point.

Inspiration & Aesthetics : clean and simple look can show your taste
Concept Sketches Form and electric system structure As an E-Bike with a minimalist shape and built-in movement system, Cycle One expect to meet the urban lifestyle's needs. The Basket is fixing on the body instead of the control bar, and the smaller front wheel provides better control and stability in narrow alleys, including an electric system.

Cycle One
1. Built-in power system prevents long clothes from getting stuck in the gears. 2. Display panel on the stem provides information to users such as speeds or battery condition. 3. Baskets are fixed on the body, even when heavy loaded, the weight won't affect the mobility. 4. Elegant handlebars with turn signal at the end to increase road safety.

Charger
1. Two charging types: direct charging from the bike and side charging for detachable battery. 2. Battery can be easily sliced vertically in the charger. 3. The wireless charger starts charging immediately as soon as Cycle One is parked. Elegant style shares the same product identity with Cycle One E-Bike.
