JUST BEGUN & ALREADY SOLD OUT Again, 2013 was a year in which we set new standards; the opening of our megastores in Bonn brought turmoil to the already nervous bike branch. Whilst other competitors were fighting against the bad weather in spring, most of Radon’s models had been sold out in May this year and we could hardly serve the market. The delivery of the 2014 models had to be brought forward to September. This was, for many, incomprehensible that in summer 2013 the first 2014 models were ready for delivery – but when the market needs innovation, we are there, offering our newest creations. The long expected Slide 29” will be on the market directly after Eurobike. The ZR Race 650 B models are deliverable. The new ultra light Slide 160 Carbon 650B (frame weight 1850 grams!!) together with the complete Swoop range with Enduro 175 mm, Freeride 190 mm and DH 210 will soon be attainable. Because of the fabulous test results over the last years (and our many aces up our sleeves), we managed to be on many winners’ podium in most fields of application. The brand new aero racing bike Vaillant qualifies for an Oscar as well as the newly designed urban trekking and Crossline, which we introduce at Eurobike. All new bikes will be ready for a test drive in September, after Eurobike, in our new megastore in Bonn. We wish all of you a peaceful end of the year and promise for 2014 the most exciting range of models we have ever had. So, and now we can treat ourselves to a nice pint or two. Cheers!

The last 258 produced 356 Pre As were especially lavishly furnished – it had jukebox dashboards just like the 55 Corvette. Porsche 356 Continental was a legend in America. The specific quantity wasn‘t high, but America screamed for a successor. Porsche, the cult brand in America was born.

Friday, 02 August 2013 Duisburg 39,8 degrees – tropical heat collects under the just set-up tent. In this temperature the freshly oiled chains threaten to drip dry. It’s the 10th time that this 24-hour mountain bike race in Duisburg takes place and we, from the 7hills team are here- once again; for the tenth time. This time, in our jubilee tricots, proudly presenting ’10 years 7hills’. We’ve managed it; Friday afternoon and the paddock of the 7 hills team is ready. Step by step our team arrives. 22 drivers, among them a couple of guest drivers as well as many helpers. This year there are six teams on the start: in the 8-mix assessment, the 7hills team and the 7hills-Radon and friends. In the two-party men’s assessment of the MTB-Team 7hills and 7hills fixie guests and two solo drivers; Christiane in the lady’s and Guillaum in the men’s assessment.

10 years 7hill – 10 years 24h-racing in Duisburg After a cosy barbecue we start on Saturday at 12 o‘clock with a slightly cooler temperature of 30 degrees. There are 2,200 participants in over 500 teams on start.
Let her rip! 224 hours long we will be driving over an 8,5 km-long circuit across the grounds of the landscape garden North, in Duisburg. The weather forecast has promised us sunshine, no rain, so it’s very, very dusty. Whilst climbing the legendary ‘Monte Schlacko’ we are being fired on by spectators with rallying cries such as ’ Come on, you can go faster than that!’ That really inspired us! After 24 hours of dust and a couple of light accidents, but happy not to have had any breakdowns, we were proud of the results; We, 7hills-radon had defended our title, the winner in the 8-mixassessment for the fourth time. Our solo lady Christiane managed second place (45 rounds) and Guillaume landed with 39 rounds, fifteenth. The other teams managed top-five and top-ten places

which was very good for hobby teams, aespecially when you consider that the other teams were much younger. All in all Duisburg was a successful event, thanks to the great organiser team from Skyder Sport Promotion and the committed helpers who supported us. Duisburg 2014 – we’ll be there again. WHEN BIKING STARTS BEING FUN. At the beginning of the 90s the classical mountain bike was unsprung. A lawnmower had more damping than a mountain bike. Are we now talking about the development of bikes? Bikes became the focus of a commencing popular sport and the racing bike as the sport gadget of the 90s got serious opposition. The first springs were mounted and showed the sceptical cyclist how much potential a mountain bike could have. The logical further development was the suspension of the main frame. The first full suspension bike was of course not perfect. Horst Leitner developed the groundbreaking AMP full suspension; the main problem was the vulnerablity of the main bearings and the damping of the spring element. Twenty years of evolu-

That great small wheel measurement Again, all is moving quickly in the bike branch when the wheels start rolling. Twenty-niners have widely pushed their way through to the front and are, even in lightweight enduros, hip. Especially racers swear by the fast, large wheels. Now the new wheel-size is jolting its way to the throne of the practically mature 26” circle. 650b or 27,5” marks the golden middle of wheels; one that is able to do everything. Basically, 650b (from its measurements) is nearer to the 26” than the 29”. Optically, there is hardly a difference between 26” and 27,5”. Consequently, it seems that the 26” mountain bikes’ days are counted, as the slightly bigger brother 650b has hardly any disadvantages but quite a few smaller advantages. Therefore we are also putting emphasis in our new development on the new wheel size. For the now beginning season 2014 we have already adjusted our ZR Race and the brand new Slide 160 Carbon to the middle sized wheels – and this is no disadvantage to the cycling quality. Obstacles are roled over with ease and the minimally higher weight is hardly noticeable.

RADON SPIRE SUZUKI SPECIAL KEVIN SCHWANTZ GETS HIS SPIRE IN A SPECIAL LACK
After a successful SUZUKI project, the Radon Slide 150 8.0 SUSUKI Club Bike – which was implemented in 2012, is now being made as a single copy. The American motor racer, legend Kevin Schwantz, gets his very own Radon Spire 9.0 in a special lacquer. On 08th June 2013, Radon co-worker Matthias Küchenmeister, together with the president of the SUZUKI Club Deutschland, Alex Jolig (who you perhaps remember from his role in the first Big Brother series) presented Kevin Schwantz with a Radon Spire 9.0.

BY THE WAY,WHO IS KEVIN SCHWANTZ? KKevin Schwantz was born on 19th June 1964 in Paige and is an American motorbike racer. He took part in dirt track races and drove in the AMA Superbike Championship. In 1987 he participated for the first time in the motorbike world championship in the category up to 500 cm³ . Right from the beginning his wild style of driving caused furore. Until 1995 the Texan achieved 25 Grand-Prix victories and became world champion in the 500cm3 category. Schwantz drove exclusively for SUZUKI.
Kevin flew to the European SUZUKI Days from America and spent the whole weekend at Hockenheimring. He was thrilled to receive his Spire and was quite excited what it would look like with its SUZUKI special lacquer. Pictures of the bike will hopefully be in the next edition of Oversized Magazine. But, we can reveal one thing: The bike will have the number 34!
Kevin Schwantz is considered one of the most popular motorbike racers in history. His famous quote is’ When you see God, start to brake’. In honour to him, his start number 34 will not be given to anyone in the motorbike worldchampionship. Today Kevin Schwantz has a motorbike school in Texas. In Juli 2013 Kevin went back to the racetrack once again and took part with Yukio Kagayama and Noriyuki Haga in the 8-hour race from Suzuka. The team drove with SUZUKI GSX-R1000 and finished third.

Because of this, the body can absorb the ingredients, for example minerals, and can quickly give muscles or organs exactly what they need. A total 35 years have passed, the ex-Pope preaches now in heaven, the boxer has seen better days, testtube babies are nothing unusual nowadays and what was called the Käfer has now undergone a fresh cell therapy and is now a beetle – even in Germany. But the Sansibar came – to stay!

This exceptional vintner lives up to his name and is well on the way to becoming a radiant symbol of German Riesling culture. His creations brim over with freshness and fruitiness from the first swig. Especially the wine that was made in honour of 35 years of Sansibar, is second to none and leaves everybody very impressed. An extremely fresh, vibrant Riesling with filgree fruit that invites to celebrate.
GERMANY KARL MAY PINOT BLANC The only thing that vineyard Karl May has in common with his famous namesake is that in the ‘Winnetou and Old Shatterhand’ way, in the vastness of Wonnegaus, wine at its best form is produced. The brothers lead this vineyard in 7th generation, in southern Rhinehessen and perform the philosophy – the correct balance between efficient work and enjoyment in life – and that tastes delicious! They have also forfeited on any chemical substances and they manage their vineyard solely following ecological principles. With 65,000 vines, this means much work that has to be divided fairly. ‘Each of us has to do hard, nervy things and afterwards he has the ‘cream puff’. Noblesse oblige – and this is the case where family Schönborn is involved. They show, in every respect, aristocratic features. Straightlined, natural and fruity with aromas from citrus fruit, nuts and herbs defiles to and fro and leaves a completely and utterly feudal feeling. It is produced in the Frankonian estate Halburg and annually sends 170,000 bottles out to the world. Their labels stand for quality, innovation and a long wine culture. That calls for a curtsey – and we are willing to bow for so much noblesse in a bottle.
GERMANY OLIVER ZETER SAUVIGNON BLANC Who makes wine just to take it to a desert island can only be called cool! Oliver Zeter, by the way, is not only very talented but also one of the nicest vintners around. Perhaps it’s because he hasn’t, as most of his colleagues, inherited a vineyard. After learning how to produce wine by the very famous Dr. Deinhard in Deidesheim he travelled on study trips to Italy and South Africa, where he learnt to live the dolce vita and finally ‘fell for’ wine. Back home in Neustadt the ‘wine-orphan’ grasped after stars and bought his very own location on the wine route and created a Sauvignon Blanc that is not only sensationally good but goes down like the image of a jump in icy water on a hot summer’s day. The better the taste, the more work involved – so they say. I’d say that the creator is very ‘ready for the island’. We can guess who would like to accompany him- so, cheers, Oli, you’ve earned it.

BURRATA MOZARELLA WITH HOT TOMATO SAUCE AND PIMIENTOS DE PADRON Ingredients for 4 people: 500 g tomatoes (e.g. San Marzano) 1 onion 3 tbsp of very good olive oil Salt, Chilli powder, sugar 10 Pimientos Sea salt 2 stems of basil 4 Burrata-rolls (125 g) coarse black pepper
Slit tomatoes crossways. Place in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Then rinse with cold water and peel off the skin. Cut the tomatoes in small cubes. Peel and finely chop the onion. Put 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and heat. Braise the onions add tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes. Season with salt, chilli powder and sugar. In the meantime wash and dry the pimientos. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and fry the pimientos for about 5 to 6 minutes until the skin is wrinkly but not brown. Wash the basil, shake dry and pluck a couple of leaves.Check that the tomato sauce is spicy enough and divide onto four plates. Place a burrata on the sauce. Trickle a little bit of oil over and ground pepper. Pimientos on top. Decorate with basil. Tastes good with baguette.

KAISERSCHMARRN For 6 people 6 medium sized eggs 60 g + 40 g sugar 200 ml milk 1 tbsp orange liqueur a little grated orange and lemon peel from an organic orange and lemon 160 g flour 4 tbsp Butter 3 – 4 tbsp icing sugar 6 tbsp stewed cranberries
Separate eggs. Whisk yolks and 60 g sugar with the mixer until light and creamy. Pour milk to the mixture whilst stirring, with orange liqueur (if desired). Mix in the orange and lemon peel. Fold in the flour and leave for 10 minutes. Whisk egg whites stiffly with 40 g sugar. Mix the whites with the yolk mixture. Heat half of the butter in a frying pan and pour half of the mixture in the pan and fry on both sides until each side is golden brown. Then pluck the pancake with 2 forks to make bite-sized pieces and fry these on all sides. Put in a warm oven till needed. Cook the other half of the mixture. Sprinkle icing sugar over the Kaiserschmarrn (pancake). Stewed cranberries, applesauce or red berry compote tastes delicious with the pancakes.

The data of this model is then transferred to a high-tech milling machine in which a plaster mould of the new fruit gum figure is made. The form is then used for the production, from which many plaster stamps can be produced. 02 STARCH TRAYS AND PLASTER STAMPL Flat boxes are then filled to the brim with starch are transported by a conveyor chain. The hundreds of plaster stamps are now pressed into the starch to make negatives. The negative travels to a conveyor belt to the next stadium where heated fluid fruit gum mixture is poured into the moulds. And there we have several hundred new fruit gums.!

The family of the trekking bikes splits into two main groups: 1. Cross bikes (they‘re the ones without street kit) and 2. The ones with street kit! The difference between the main groups is the amenities. The higher quality the bike is equipped, the lighter it is. We‘ve managed to develop a street kitted bike – urban Titanium – that weighs less than 10 kilogrammes. An adequately equipped trekking bike must have a hub dynamo, a stable, but light luggage rack, an easy to use gear change and hydraulic brakes. Moreover, a hollow section rim (the curb send its greetings) and
ergonomic frame geometry plus corresponding ergonomic amenities such as gel saddles, grips and adjustable fittings. Such a trekking bike should weigh approximately 14 kg. If the bike has to be lighter, (quicker drive, easier management in ascent, safer brakes) then a higher-quality frame and lighter attachment parts have to be chosen. When buying a touring-trekking bike, a sturdy luggage rack and disc brakes should be prioritised. E BIKE Why not an e bike? This nearly heretical question at the beginning of a development has, in the meantime, seemed to have answered itself – due to the large reception of our customers.
We, at Radon believe that all our customers who would like to ascend the big and smaller gradients of everyday cycling without stress is better off with an e-bike. Whether on the way to the university, or just going shopping, visiting friends or just increasing your sporty radius of action – with a Radon pedelec you can enjoy perpetual tail wind. The only thing you need is a little electricity from the socket. The maintenance costs are not more expensive than comparable conventional trekking bikes. Characteristics of a cross bike are: light, quick, manoeuverable and for rural or bad roads. A cross bike is a sports equipment and at the same time a practical alternative to a car. Those who like to be sporty but not on a too heavy terrain can profit from the better rolling characteristics, in comparison to an MTBs‘ thinner tyres, and finds this the ideal bike in cross segment. The frames from Radon’s Scart models were developed with one goal; to make cross bikes that shows well-balanced performance on the road as well as in light terrain. That’s why an elaborate hydro-formed tube set was used to reduce the weight of the preceding model of around 350 g. To increase comfort the saddle pipe diameter was reduced to 27,2 mm and the geometry was made more fitting for touring. Scart 5.0 starts at € 499,–. The Scart Light Series has, as our top cross series a frame of, known from the exclusive Sunset series, hydro-formed Octagon down tube. As a result, there was a loss of weight but at the same time a gain in rigidity. To achieve a clearer optic, the cables were routed internally. The Scart light series has also an airsprung fork with raised suspension travel of 75 mm and the possibility to block so that, if wished for, the off-road capability is boosted. The wheels of the Scart series are the ideal foundation for sporty tours, also for those who like going off-road. The line up for 2014 has been complemented with an additional model completed with Sram’s new Via GT group and offers that from the MTB group well-known Sram-Feeling now in the cross segment!
