4-H Canada Our Mission: The mission of the 4-H movement in Canada is to empower youth to be responsible, caring and contributing leaders that effect positive change in the world around them. Our Vision: Thriving communities in partnership with youth leaders. 4-H Canada empowers young Canadians to become skilled, engaged, and responsible leaders who are passionate about making meaningful contributions to the world around them. We provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment that prepares youth to make a positive impact on their community, on their country, and around the world. Established in 1913, 4-H is one of Canada’s longest-running and most respected youth organizations! We are a youthserving organization focused on the goal of helping young Canadians “Learn To Do By Doing” in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. We believe in nurturing responsible, caring and contributing leaders who are committed to positively impacting communities across Canada and around the world. 4-H Canada is made up of close to 25,000 members and 7,700 volunteers across the country. Our volunteers are actually called leaders—and for good reason. We are an organization built around leadership. By providing 4-H’ers with mentors and role models who lead by example, we give youth the opportunity to enjoy meaningful, positive experiences that build confidence, positive self-identity, self-esteem and a sense of achievement.

Positive youth development (PYD) Positive youth development (PYD) is a globally recognized and research-based approach to youth development that considers young people as assets and partners in the community, and not as problems who need solving. PYD does not focus on one single activity or program, but rather is a general approach and philosophy incorporated into all of our 4-H programming in Canada.

4-H Canada Science Fair
“Sparking Science, Cultivating Curiosity” is the goal of the 4-H Canada Science Fair. 4-H youth members (in grades 7 to 12) can choose to work individually or in partners, to create a science fair project around any theme that interests them. They can conduct an experiment, design an invention or perform a research study. Some members may explore a topic that compliments their 4-H club project, or they may discover something completely unrelated! There are three rounds to the 4-H Canada Science Fair:
1
Virtual Round
The first round of the 4-H Canada Science Fair involves members submitting their projects online where they will be judged virtually. Projects will follow normal science project protocol, but instead of displays, members create PowerPoint presentations that are shared with judges for assessment. Resources will be made available to assist members with their projects and prior to the January deadline there will be at least three different online, live Q&A sessions.
2
The second round of the 4-H Canada Science Fair will involve the semifinalists travelling to compete in an in-person science fair. They will be able to present their projects to judges, meet 4-Hers from across the country, and participate in science programming around the venue (TBD). The winning projects will move on to compete in the CanadaWide Science Fair.
Learn more at 4-h-canada.ca/sciencefair
Canada-Wide Science Fair
The final round of the 4-H Canada Science Fair flows into the CanadaWide Science Fair (CWSF), managed by Youth Science Canada. The Science Fair involves about 450 students from across Canada, competing with their science fair projects, along with lively science-themed programming. The Canada-Wide Science Fair boasts nearly $1,000,000 in prizes and is considered the ‘Olympics of Science Fairs’ in Canada!
