Hi there! Lets start with introducing myself; my real name is Catharina but everybody calls me Pip. I was nicknamed by my three elder brothers since ‘pip’ was actually the first word that I ever spoke. Soon after that the rest of the family followed the example and nowadays everybody refers to me as Pip. Being born and raised in a small village on the seaside, with a family that was warm and caring, I can truly say that I have had a cheerful childhood. After my high school, it was almost logical to get a proper education at the Academy of Fine Arts, just like my grandmother had done. Once graduated, I moved to an old ramshackle Victorian house at the outskirts of town. Although the house was almost paintless, it was love at first sight. A lot of the original details were still there. The attic was the best place to establish my studio because of the pure northern light that brings out the colours as they ought to be. The name ‘PiP studio’ was easily found and spot on, it exactly states what needs to be said, nothing more, nothing less. My studio is not very ‘Zen’ in the sense that it has a clean sleek interior. On the contrary; the studio is full of bits and pieces found during my journeys around the world. It is jam packed with assortments of all sorts of things that I have been collecting since my childhood. The attic is stuffed with a tremendous archive that forms an endless source of inspiration.
Whenever designing a collection, be it a bed and bath collection, a world of wallpapers, a stationery line, a bags range or a set of greeting cards, I will always strive for subtle layered artworks, possibly with a mix and match of old and new, but always with a balanced colour palette and a meticulous eye for details and special finishing. My design principle is very simple; whenever I am looking for a product and it cannot be found in the stores I decide to design it myself. The outcome has to be so good, that I want to keep it for myself, or want to give it to a dear friend or family member. My motto is ‘Happy products for Happy People’ if a product does not stir up that emotion, it cannot be a true PiP product. I worked hard on designing new products that complete the existing PiP home collection. This resulted in a range of home textiles with some exclusive details. For example table clothes finished with a stitched golden PiP signature and cushions with flowers, birds and handmade sparkling elements. Also new are plain white plates. They are beautiful on their own, but thanks to recognizable features in red and gold, they also can be perfectly matched with the original PiP floral collection. Love and kisses, Pip
