Career Development Training for the Transport Industry in Northern Ireland

All TTS apprenticeships are delivered from its purpose-built campus at Nutts Corner, and it differs from other apprenticeship providers because its young people train at TTS in one week blocks approximately every eight weeks. Employers and apprentices alike consistently comment on their preference for this training schedule over the traditional weekly day-release pattern. In addition to vehicle maintenance, driver training and vehicle sales and aftermarket apprenticeships, TTS has secured new apprenticeships on the latest DfE ApprenticeshipsNI framework in the areas of Supply Chain Management and Warehousing & Storage. These were strategically tendered for to enhance the organisation’s offering to this sector and the courses are designed to develop the next generation of logistics industry professionals. In addition, TTS can now offer apprenticeships in Team Leading, Management and Customer Service. These are aimed at upskilling existing automotive, transport and logistics professionals. Employers can identify individuals within their workforces who would benefit from improved leadership skills.

It’s because of these responses that TTS was recognised at the most recent Export & Freight Transport & Logistics Awards when it won the exceptionally well subscribed category of ‘Excellence in Customer Service’. The awards judges said TTS was a clear winner ‘demonstrating that a social enterprise can excel in customer satisfaction and sustain growth whilst also achieving social and community impact.’ More information about TTS can be found at www.transporttraining.org

TTS regularly surveys its customers (apprentices and professional development clients) on a range of topics including quality of teaching, teaching methods, facilities and support received. Across the board respondents are highly satisfied. 96% of customers that have undertaken professional development training said they had benefitted from the training course and found it meaningful, interesting and worthwhile, and all but one respondent said the course content was ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ when asked if it was appropriate to their needs/the needs of the industry. Similarly, when asked to rate the statement: “All things considered, I made the right choice following this course/training programme” every apprentice surveyed for the last 3 years has answered ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’.
