Community Engagement

As a locally owned business, AG Wilson has strong roots in its community and this school year the company introduced ‘BeSafe Bert’ and his campaign to educate primary children about safety on and around construction sites. Shauna McKay is the human face of the initiative and has previously been welcomed to primary schools in the local area, Newry and Belfast. Shauna said: “The children have all been so excited to meet Bert and interested to learn about the dangers on construction sites. As part of our visit we leave them a safety pack and BeSafe Bert picture challenge and I’ve been thrilled at the amazing participation from the children.”

A subsidiary aim of this community engagement programme is to inspire the future generation and instil an interest in civil engineering (or building things) as a career. “We divide our company into three divisions; marine construction, fusion welding and civil engineering,” said Richard Chambers , “but it is all civil engineering. Civils incorporates everything we do and we are keen to showcase engineering as a career.”
