Obituary: Henry Ardis, General Manager Plant & Civil Engineer

The sudden passing of our General Manager Henry Ardis on Boxing Day came as a great shock to all of us here and throughout the industry. He was 58. Henry, who had a wealth of experience in the magazine and publishing industry, only took on the role at Plant & Civil Engineer just over a year ago and in that short time he established some great working relationships with many of the leading companies across the plant, construction and recycling sectors.

With a BA (Hons) with a focus on economics from Liverpool John Moores University, Henry proved to be a big asset to Plant & Civil Engineer, even though the industry was a new area for him; it was a challenge that he relished and he quickly made his mark, as was demonstrated by the many tributes that were posted on various online social platforms. Born in London, Henry moved to Belfast at a young age and in later life – in 2005 - took on the Northern Ireland franchise for Primary Times, a widely read magazine for parents, pupils and teachers in the primary school sector. When it was badly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Henry looked to expand his business interests and joined the team here at Plant & Civil Engineer. Previously, he held positions with the Ulster Tatler and Ulster Tatler Interiors. In his spare time, Henry enjoyed a range of hobbies, including golf, travelling, chess, current affairs, socialising and walking. He is survived by his wife Agnes and sister Susan.
