BIG NORMAN’S GOLF DAY CP HIRE

The third biennial Norman Hutchinson Memorial Golf Day, also known by friends as ‘Big Norman’s Golf Day’ took place on Thursday 22 June at Castlerock Golf Club. The 18-hole fundraising competition is organised by CP Hire in commemoration of the company’s founder Norman Hutchinson (1946 – 2016).

Norman started off working at the side of the road outside Articlave with a couple of compressors and a welder he purchased on his journey back from working in Spain. He founded CP Hire in 1971, working from a shed at his father’s house and so began the story of CP Hire, which today has seven depots throughout Northern Ireland. A day for fun and challenges over 18-holes at Castlerock, 33 four-balls took on the narrow fairways and blind spots of this stunning coastal course, followed, of course, with good food (and maybe a wee drink) in the company of friends. As before, the beneficiaries for the day, which raised some £34,000, were the mental health charities Olive Branch and the British Heart Foundation.
