Is Fostering For You?

Derby City Council needs Foster Carers as there are over one hundred children in Derby who cannot be looked after by their own families. Could you be interested in fostering a child? If you have the time, energy and space, why not consider becoming a foster carer for Derby City Council and change a life?

Derby City Council Foster Team have several different types of fostering to suit any lifestyle. This includes short-term, long-term, respite, supported lodging, parent and child and fostering PLUS.

We ask that you count yourself in, rather than out. Here are a few questions asked by potential foster carers:

Q: Does fostering have an age limit?

A: No, you can apply to be a Foster Carer in Derby if you are over 21. We just ask that you are fit and healthy enough to meet the demands of looking after a child.

Q: Do I need a spare room?

A:Yes, ideally, but children under 2 years old can share the main carer’s bedroom.

Q: Do Foster Carers receive financial support?

A:Yes.You will receive a weekly allowance to support the cost of looking after a child.
