Shape of Dreams
from Chasing The Horizon
by Robert
The photo was a project call "Chubby Clouds" by brand Anya Hindmarch at London Fashion Week Festival. The project is a conceptual temporary installation for the imagination of sleeping. Tourist are also asked to change into protective white boilersuits before entering the project, so that creating this interesting view.
I gave it the title called "Shape of Dreams" because of the chill and soft vibes I felt from this picture. I think that shape means the form that we can imagine, but dreams are the things that beyond any literal description.

In this project, I want to challenge our stereotype of the normal underground walk. In our imagination, the underground walk is usually a dark and stiff tunnel that people rarely want to long stay.
But what if we can change our experience of going underground into a soft and unexcepted journey? I want to create the soft texture in our city, and becoming the shape of dreams of our city daily life.
In this project, I also want to challenge the brand new material while thinking the design.
The fabric is a kind of material that can have multiple organic forms but also have many different levels of transparency because of the tension pull. It can create a lot of interesting and beautiful spaces just base one single material. It can allow the light to come inside the spaces, but also create the magnificent shadow outside the fabric at the same time.
So that the fabric design always comes with the hard frame. It's one the limit while making the space of fabrics.
But right now we are in the underground. We can have the opportunity to hide the frame, or even try to redefine them, making people mainly focus on the experience of soft spaces.
With the pull of magnets, the fabrics being twisted like the gravity field.

Shape of dreams means free form. So I want to create the landscape of softness.
The temperary reading tent in the city
With the different direction of tension pull, we can create a lot of function. If we pull up, the space just become a temperary reading tent in the city. If we grow a tree on the fabric, it compose a beautiful curve line because of the "weight of life."

With the different levels of tension pull, we can also create a lot of different programs. If we slightly pull up, the space just become a soft couch in the city. If we have the curve line mirrored, it will become a container of light, collecting the brightness for the underground tunnel.

[ About Site ]
My site is located at the Xinzhongshan Linear Park. The site the longest green line park in the Taipei city. There're also mulitple layers of different porgrams hiding behind the line park.
The first underground layer of line park is the book store. The second underground layer of line park is the MRT Zhongshan Station. But these layers dosen't have any verical space connected with each other. So that these people in these floors is actually isolateed with no perceptions. When people walking past inthe undergound, they can't feel anything from the other layers.
Reading Landscape
Because there're a lof of different programs happened horizontally. The purpose of my design is to create the vertical communcate space for these underground layers. I wanna connect the ground floor activities with the layers of bookstore, so that we can have an opening reading landscape for people in both layers. With the special space of the fabric design, people would like to stay here for more long time. And the soft texture will also break our stereotype to the traditional underground walk.

The first step, I dig out the thickness beteween the groundfloor park and the first layers of bookstore. So that the light will come in to the first undergound floor. I also make an second staircase, then we have the possibility of creating a contunal circulation with the original staircase.
The second step, I installed the first space of fabrics in the empty zone, connecting both of the old and the original staircases. It create a brand new experinece of space for the people at the underground walk.
The new installaton of fabrics also created multiple special experiences of spaces for the people inside or outside the fabrics. For the people at the original underground walk, the fabric became an organic arcade, creating the motivation for people to stay. For people on the fabric, it also became a soft rest couch for the passenger that can stay and take the rest.
The fabric is a kind of material that can have multiple organic forms but also have many different levels of transparency because of the tension pull. With the effect of lighting, the fabric create a magnificent atmepohere. It also create a new experience for passanger while into the underground.
The material of fabric not only allows the light come into the spaces, but also create the magnificent shadow outside the fabric with its twisting form at the same time.

For the people at the original underground walk, the fabric became an organic arcade, creating the motivation for people to stay. The shadow of the grasshopper structure panel also create an interesting grid texture on the form of fabric.
The transparency of the fabric also created a huge contrast to the heavy texture the original underground walk gave, making people spent more time look at the ceiling. From the angle of staircase, the views towards the fabric is marvelous, making the original boring staircase into another entrance into wonderland.
